Chapter 206 Encountering a Reborn Woman (20)

Indeed, Leng Yue is the perfect person for going to school.

Carrying her schoolbag, Leng Yue walked through the high school campus, her face full of helplessness. Could someone tell her why members of the superpowered group had to go to school?

Class 4 of Grade 11 was Leng Yue's class. Since it was the first day of school, the seats were all arranged randomly. So, Leng Yue carried her things and sat directly in the last row, a seat by the window and against the wall.

The sounds coming from their group weren't the only things reaching her ears. Of course, most of it was Zhao Gang praising Leng Yue for looking cute in her school uniform. Leng Yue wanted to punch him. This time, she had deliberately cut her hair into a bowl cut and was wearing huge black-rimmed glasses. She didn't look cute at all! Finally, she could only lose her temper and tell them to shut up.

The person Leng Yue is protecting is a girl named Li Huanhuan. She has already seen Li Huanhuan's photo and knows her. She's the apple-faced girl who told Leng Yue the gossip before.

When Leng Yue learned that it was to protect her, she felt quite emotional. They had had the opportunity to be friends before, but Leng Yue was afraid of implicating Li Huanhuan, so the two had no further contact.

They didn't intend to fight, but after many twists and turns, the two ended up getting involved.

Just then, Li Huanhuan arrived. She stood at the classroom door, looking around, and found that there were hardly any seats left in the classroom.

After looking around, she finally spotted the empty seat next to Leng Yue, so she walked in with her backpack. She stopped next to Leng Yue, looking at her but not recognizing her, while Leng Yue was also looking at her.

"Hello, may I sit here?" Li Huanhuan's cheeks were flushed, and her smile revealed shallow dimples.

Leng Yue nodded. "Of course."

Upon hearing this, Li Huanhuan perked up, "Great! I was just worried about not having a place to sit! Hello, my name is Li Huanhuan, and I'll be your deskmate starting today. What's your name, classmate?"

"Yue Leng, Yue as in father-in-law, Leng as in cold air." Leng Yue said her new name with a helpless expression. She wondered who in the organization was handling the file and who had been so careless in choosing the name.

Li Huanhuan laughed upon hearing this, "Your name... how should I put it, it's quite nice..."

Leng Yue glanced at Li Huanhuan, pushed up her glasses, and said, "I'm so glad you like it!"

Li Huanhuan stopped smiling and looked at Leng Yue, saying, "Actually, my name isn't very nice either. I keep calling out to it, but I don't know what I'm calling out to. My grandma gave me this name, so I always feel that she wanted to use the word 'exchange' in the name. It must be that she didn't register the name correctly when she registered it."

"Why? How do you know your grandma wanted to use the word 'exchange'?" Leng Yue said, pushing up her glasses and looking at Li Huanhuan curiously.

"Think about it, don't older generations generally prefer their grandchildren?" Li Huanhuan said with certainty.

Leng Yue nodded hesitantly, "Perhaps."

“But I’m a girl, so the old folks are superstitious and gave me the name ‘Huan,’ meaning that the next child will be a girl. Actually, it’s the same as the old names like ‘Zhao Di’ or ‘Pan Di’!” After Li Huanhuan’s analysis, Leng Yue really thought it made a lot of sense.

"So, do you really have a younger brother?" Leng Yue knew she didn't, but she was still curious.

Li Huanhuan shook her head, "No, because my mother insisted on having only one child. So, my grandmother's expectations were ultimately dashed."

"Is this your own understanding or did you verify it with your grandmother?" Leng Yue felt that since Li Huanhuan's mother could insist on not having a second child, it meant that Li Huanhuan's grandmother was not so sexist.

"Of course I guessed. This is the first time I've told anyone this, not even my mother knows." Li Huanhuan stared at Leng Yue with her big, round eyes. "Yue Leng, this is our secret, you can't tell anyone else?"

Leng Yue nodded solemnly, "Don't worry." She appeared very calm on the surface, but felt helpless inside, wondering if this girl always had all sorts of secrets, yet always liked to tell people to keep them a secret?

It was said to be a rumor before, but this time it's another secret between the two of them. Leng Yue gently rubbed her forehead, thinking to herself that she really is still a child.

The first day was simply about distributing new books and getting to know each other. Since there were no regular classes, the children chatted and laughed together, and time flew by.

Because Li Huanhuan was staying in the dormitory, Leng Yue had to stay with her. There was no other way; she was the only one who could protect Li Huanhuan closely.

On their way back to the dormitory, Leng Yue remained silent. Li Huanhuan, however, kept chattering away, always having something to say.

“I’ll still call you Yueyue from now on. It sounds too cold.” Li Huanhuan suddenly stopped, turned around and looked at Leng Yue, asking for her opinion.

Leng Yue shrugged indifferently, "It's fine with whatever you like, call me whatever you want."

"Yueyue, why did you come to this school? Was it because you didn't do well on the exam?" Li Huanhuan asked Leng Yue in a low voice while kicking pebbles at her feet.

Leng Yuexin said, "No, it's for you," but what she said was, "Well, I was sick when I took the math exam for the high school entrance exam and didn't do well, so I came here."

"Oh? So unlucky?" Li Huanhuan looked at Leng Yue with sympathy in her eyes. "So you're saying you used to have really good grades, right? Sigh, that's such a pity! I really did have bad grades. I tried my best during the exams. I'm already very happy to be able to come to this school."

Leng Yue nodded. "Actually, as long as we work hard in high school, I believe we can still get into a good university."

"Really? My foundation is so weak?" Li Huanhuan's eyes were full of confusion. "Yueyue, can you sit with me for a while?"

Leng Yue nodded, and the two sat down in the school's 'Xingzhi Corridor'. Because the weather wasn't very good today, it was quiet and not crowded at all.

“Yueyue, actually I…” Li Huanhuan looked at Leng Yue with a conflicted expression.

Leng Yue looked at Li Huanhuan, "Hmm?"

"I don't actually want to study. I want to go find my dad. I want to see what kind of work he does!" Li Huanhuan suddenly became depressed. "You know what? Since I was born, my dad has rarely come home. My mom always says he's very busy, but even if he's busy, can't he come home for the New Year?"

“I want to go find my dad and see what he’s been up to. I want to know whether work or family is more important to him!” Li Huanhuan became very emotional when she mentioned her father.

Leng Yue stood up and patted Li Huanhuan's head. "Be good, don't worry your dad."

Li Huanhuan's face suddenly turned red, and she looked at Leng Yue, somewhat at a loss. After a long while, she murmured softly, "You're not my father, why are you talking like an old man?"

Leng Yue didn't speak because she couldn't tell Li Huanhuan that her father was a hero, a JD police officer.

Police officers on the front lines of JD face danger at all times. No one knows which operation will be their last. Even if they sacrifice their lives, they cannot have their own names! They must live under assumed identities for the rest of their lives.

Being the family members of these police officers is equally difficult. They not only have to endure the longing and worry of being separated from their loved ones, but also face the constant threat of death if they are exposed. Being recognized by their children on the street, even just hearing them say "Dad," could lead to their demise.

They are undoubtedly heroes, the greatest people. They defended the country and protected the people; they sacrificed so much and endured so much. Because of their selfless dedication, ordinary people can enjoy a peaceful and tranquil life.

This time, Leng Yue only wants to protect them!
