Chapter 282 Fairy Tale Town (3)

"Mayor, Erha's mother said we had a smell before, and now you're saying the same thing. What exactly do we smell like?" Leng Yue finally asked.

The husky mom says they're werewolves with a keen sense of smell. But the mayor clearly states he's human, so why is that?

The mayor looked at Leng Yue and said, "You carry the scent of strangers. Any native resident of this town would be able to detect it."

"The aura of a living person? Aren't we different from you?" Leng Yue couldn't see any difference between them. Aren't we all just two eyes, a nose, and a mouth?

“No, no, no, it’s very different,” the mayor shook his head. “You’ll see for yourselves when you go out and take a look.”

"Shall we go out for a visit now? There's no one outside right now." Leng Yue glanced at the street outside the window; it was still deserted.

"Then let's wait until ten o'clock. Once it's ten, the streets will immediately become lively." The mayor said, taking out his pocket watch to check. "Hmm, one more hour."

"Oh dear, it's already nine o'clock, I have to go to work too," the mayor said, hurriedly putting on his clothes and shoes. "Would you like to come with me on the tour, or do you want to wander around on your own?"

Leng Yue glanced at Qian Chen, who smiled and said, "Thank you for your kindness, Mayor. We'll just wander around on our own."

"In that case, you're free to do as you please. If you have any questions, just come to the mayor's office in the town center anytime." The mayor said, hurriedly opening the door to leave, but then turned back at the door. "By the way, you must not leave the town on your own. It's very unsafe outside."

Leng Yue and Qian Chen exchanged glances. After the town mayor left, they asked the woman standing to the side, "Your town mayor keeps saying it's dangerous outside. What exactly is it?"

The woman shook her head. "I don't know, I've never been outside. But there must be monsters, that's what my mother said when I was little."

"Monsters?" Leng Yue was even more puzzled. Why would she feel scared if there were monsters in a place where werewolves existed?

Finding they couldn't get any information, the two left the mayor's house. Once outside, they wandered around aimlessly. Since it wasn't even ten o'clock yet, the streets were still deserted.

They saw many strangely shaped things, all things from fairy tales. There was a witch's castle, Cinderella's pumpkin carriage, and Rapunzel's tower. All sorts of things, just like... just like being in Disneyland.

However, these buildings are all empty now. Leng Yue doesn't know if these people really exist, or if they are just actors.

I wonder if the witches are really witches, just like the Big Bad Wolf is a werewolf in disguise. Is their job to play villains, or are they all just ordinary people in disguise?

In short, the more Leng Yue learns, the more confused she becomes. She feels that this place is a mix of truth and falsehood, making it difficult to distinguish between them.

“Let’s go outside the town and take a look,” Qianchen said softly in Lengyue’s ear, pulling her along. “Something’s strange here. We should go out and check it out.”

Leng Yue glanced around furtively and, finding no one else present, nodded. The two then quickly disappeared into the streets of the town.

Once they reached a place far from the town, the two flew on their swords. They soon arrived at the edge of the town, where they discovered something that resembled a barrier.

"Is the monster they're talking about the barrier?" Leng Yue reached out and touched the barrier, only to find that it wasn't very sturdy at all; in fact, it would break if she touched it even lightly.

"What can such a barrier block?" Leng Yue wondered, what exactly is this barrier is isolating?

Qian Chen reached out and touched it, flicking his finger, and the barrier shattered as expected. But soon, like a water curtain, the barrier rose again from the bottom up.

"What is this thing? It can automatically rewind?" Leng Yue has been dealing with barriers for so long, but this is the first time she has seen one that can rewind on its own.

“This isn’t a barrier,” Qianchen said, deflecting the barrier again and placing Lengyue’s hand on it. “Can you feel anything?”

"What?" Leng Yue asked, dumbfounded.

“Feel the changes in your heartbeat and breathing,” Qianchen said, pulling Lengyue’s hand and placing it on the newly grown barrier. “Feel it carefully.”

Leng Yue closed her eyes and sensed it, and indeed she sensed what Qian Chen had said. She couldn't help but exclaim in surprise, "You mean, this isn't a barrier, but a living being?"

“It seems so now,” Qianchen said, releasing the barrier again and pulling Lengyue out of the town.

There were no monsters or traps outside the town, but there were many tall, lush trees and the cheerful chirping of various birds.

"Everything seems normal here," Leng Yue took a deep breath; the air was fresh and invigorating. "Why don't they leave the town?"

“They’re here,” Qianchen suddenly pulled Lengyue behind him, looking at the swaying trees in the distance and the earth-shaking footsteps, “This is probably the reason.”

"A giant?" Leng Yue noticed a tall figure overhead when the sunlight in front of them was blocked.

"Who gave you permission to come out!" The giant's voice boomed like thunder; no wonder the mayor's wife said there were monsters outside.

Startled, Leng Yue grabbed Qian Chen with one arm and covered her ears with the other. Qian Chen, however, stood calmly in front of Leng Yue, saying, "Do we need anyone else's permission to come out?"

"Where is your mayor? How dare you break the agreement! You deserve to die!" The giant was furious and tried to tear open the barrier to step into the fairytale town.

“Wait a minute,” Leng Yue stopped the giant. “We are not residents of this town and are not under the mayor’s control.”

"You're not residents of this town? Then where are you from? From the Eastern Continent?" The giant looked at Leng Yue and Qian Chen. "You'd better not come near this forest and leave as soon as possible."

The giant was about to leave after speaking, leaving Leng Yue speechless. Weren't giants supposed to be berserk? When did they become so agreeable?

"Hey, giant brother, can I ask you something?" Leng Yue rode her flying sword around to the giant's front.

The giant was startled by Leng Yue's sudden action. "You can ride flying swords? It seems you really are from the east."

"Speak! What else do you want? I warn you, even if you come from the east, you have no right to interfere in the affairs of our elven race!"

"Elves...?" Leng Yue nearly fell off her flying sword. "Aren't elves supposed to be small? How could they be giants?"

"We giants are also of the elven race. Do you people from the east have a problem with that?" The giant seemed to dislike Leng Yue's questioning.

“No, no,” Leng Yue waved her hand, “Can we go with you to see the elves?”

"No!" the giant said and left, disappearing as soon as he entered the forest.

Leng Yue returned to Qian Chen's side on her flying sword. "It feels even more chaotic now. Where should we go to find the answers?"

"Why don't we go east? Didn't the giants say we came from the east? If we go there, maybe we'll find out." Qianchen also felt that things were getting increasingly complicated. He was now eager to know what kind of world this was.
