As dusk settled, the eastern continent quickly fell into darkness. There was no moon, no starlight; it was like being in a closed space.
Although the Eastern Continent and the fairytale town are separated only by a forest barrier and a simple turnstile passage, they are actually more like two different spaces.
It's like an invisible barrier, separating the Eastern continent and the fairytale town into two different worlds.
A gust of wind blew in, carrying a damp and sticky smell. Leng Yue felt uncomfortable and closed the window. Qian Chen came over and turned on the oil lamp on the table. Leng Yue watched him fiddle with the lamp.
"What's wrong? Is something on your mind?" After Qianchen finished, he saw Leng Yue resting her chin on her hand and looking at the oil lamp, and he found it a little funny.
"What are you laughing at?" Leng Yue asked, displeased.
"I'm laughing at your foolishness," Qianchen tapped the table.
“You’re the idiot…” Leng Yue retorted halfway, “You mean…”
"It's alright, go to sleep, we still have a long journey ahead tomorrow!" Qianchen shook his head gently and glanced at the door.
Although Leng Yue didn't quite understand, she nodded nonetheless, "Alright, I am indeed a little tired."
Walking to the bedside, Qianchen flicked his finger, extinguishing the oil lamp he had painstakingly lit. The two lay on the bed in silence, but held hands, writing something in each other's palms.
The person outside the door eavesdropped for a while, and seeing no sound inside, and soon hearing even breathing, quietly left.
Once the faint light outside the door disappeared, Leng Yue spoke softly, "That wasn't the light from an oil lamp or candle, was it? What was she using?"
"It should be something unique to this place, or it was given to us by headquarters." Qianchen hadn't seen the whole thing, so he didn't really know.
"Why is she carrying a light source? Aren't she afraid we'll find out?" Leng Yue muttered. "Do we really look that stupid?"
"When you see that tiny bit of light coming through there, what's your first reaction?" Qianchen continued, not waiting for Leng Yue's answer. "Wouldn't you think it's moonlight or some other light from outside?"
“Perhaps this method would work in other places, but she seems to have forgotten that there is no light here at all!” Qianchen felt that this explanation made sense.
Leng Yue shook her head, but because it was too dark, she said, "I don't think what you said is right. That explanation is too far-fetched. I always feel that there is something else going on."
"Perhaps," Qian Chen fell silent, though he wasn't as calm as he appeared. How could he remain calm when he was meeting people from headquarters for the first time, especially those who might be setting a trap for them?
"I never expected to run into people from headquarters as soon as I entered here. I really didn't expect this." Leng Yue sighed. She couldn't describe how she felt, but deep down she felt a sense of unease.
“I can’t sleep. Let’s see what she’s up to.” Leng Yue suddenly sat up, turned to look at Qian Chen, but couldn’t see anything.
"Do you know what she's prepared? This is her territory, isn't it?" Qian Chen got up and pressed Leng Yue back down. "Just lie there quietly. There's nothing we can do today."
"It's all my fault. I should have known better than to let her stay here." Leng Yue said with some regret.
"How foolish! Did you really think we could get away?" Qianchen sighed. "She probably already planned how to stop us. She must have planned it from the very beginning."
"Have we stumbled into a den of thieves?" Leng Yue wondered why things had turned out this way.
"Perhaps from the moment I met the mayor, I had already fallen into someone else's trap." Qianchen thought about it carefully and felt that every part was unreasonable. He hadn't thought about it before, but now, looking back, he found that these unreasonable things were really obvious.
"Mayor? But we've been there for so long and no one's caused any trouble!" Leng Yue was even more surprised by Qian Chen's words. She was also more worried. "What are we going to do? We can't just stay here and wait to be arrested!"
“Let’s not hide anymore,” Qianchen decided to do the opposite. “How about we turn the tables on them and use this opportunity to probe their strength?”
"Can we really do this? If what happened at Yincang is true, then we really can't be so reckless." Leng Yue vaguely remembered that Ling had said that Xiao Mei's master was of a high level. If he was directly eliminated, what would happen to her and Qian Chen?
Leng Yue couldn't bear to imagine it. "Should we just run away?"
"Where else can we escape to?" Qianchen retorted. "Yueyue, do you think we can escape to without being discovered, since we've already fallen into their trap as soon as we appeared?"
"The Anywhere Door! We have the Anywhere Door, and the Small World too! We can always hide there!" Leng Yue grabbed Qian Chen's hand, her forehead trembling with anxiety. "Let's hide inside now!"
"Headquarters wouldn't have considered the possibility of such a space? You've forgotten, this time we're dealing with the most shrewd and experienced people, well-trained and knowledgeable." Qian Chen held Leng Yue's hand and gently comforted her, "Calm down. These are our last resorts to save our lives. We absolutely cannot expose them unless it's absolutely necessary."
After Qian Chen finished speaking, Leng Yue understood. The flow of time in the small world might be different from that of this world, but the people at headquarters would definitely be able to figure out the existence of space. Therefore, they only needed to keep waiting and watching.
As for the Anywhere Door, needless to say, it was something Zero redeemed from the system shop. Who knows if they've brought something to counter it? After much thought, they realized they couldn't use these trump cards recklessly. For now, they could only take it one step at a time.
"Go to sleep. We still have some time. We might even have some unexpected gains during this time." Qianchen patted Lengyue. "Don't think too much. I'll take care of everything."
Leng Yue didn't know what unexpected gain Qian Chen was talking about, but she also knew that thinking about it any further was pointless. So she obediently closed her eyes and prepared to fall asleep.
But sometimes, you can't just fall asleep whenever you want, and so, for the first time ever, Leng Yue suffered from insomnia. After her sleepless night, Leng Yue thought of many things. Some from the past, some from the present, and some from the future, but most of them were related to Zero.
The sound of even breathing reached her ears; Qian Chen had fallen asleep. Leng Yue admired Qian Chen's mentality; he was like a warrior, fearless in the face of danger, maintaining his energy especially in times of crisis.
Leng Yue couldn't sleep; the more things bothered her, the more chaotic her mind became, and the harder it was to fall asleep and conserve her energy. Tossing and turning, Leng Yue finally gave up forcing herself to sleep and began cultivating instead.
To be honest, Leng Yue hasn't been cultivating seriously lately. They've been constantly traveling between different worlds, always troubled by various things. Even when they occasionally enter a smaller world, they haven't truly relaxed.
Leng Yue got up, sat down, and entered a meditative state. She then discovered something unusual in her dantian.
