"Attention all departments, prepare to start filming!" the director announced through a megaphone.
"Wait, what about the body in the latrine? Where did it go?"
"Stage manager, stage manager?"
The director was so anxious he was practically bubbling with frustration. What was going on? The more time he was pressed for, the less effective his work became!
"Director, they're here!" The production assistant jogged over, bowing and scraping.
"Where's the body? Where did it go?" the director shouted through the megaphone.
The production assistant was so shocked that he took a step back, rubbing his ears as he said, "Director, it stinks there, nobody wants to lie down there."
"Find extras? Do I have to teach you that? Huh?" the director yelled again.
"You know our crew is broke, right? We've tried to hire extras, but they all want more money and bribes. They won't do it if it's not paid enough!" The production assistant was getting impatient. Why was he yelling at me the only one? I couldn't do anything about it.
"You..." The director pointed at the production assistant, so angry he didn't know what to say. After pointing for a while, he pointed at someone, "That so-and-so, yes, it's you."
Leng Yue was dumbfounded. She looked at the people around her, and then at the director.
"Come here, yes, yes, it's you!" the director said again.
"Director, did you call me?" Leng Yue smiled obsequiously. This was the first time she had spoken to the director since joining the crew!
"What's your name again?" The director scratched his head, feeling that the girl looked somewhat familiar.
"Director, my name is Leng Yue. I'm a general helper, but I love acting. I really like you..." Leng Yue was so excited that she became somewhat incoherent.
"Alright, alright, you're the one." The director waved his hand dismissively.
"Huh? What about me?" Leng Yue asked, puzzled.
"Go lie down there, you'll get paid." The director waved his hand and pointed to the cesspool.
Leng Yue glanced at the director, pointed to herself, and the director nodded. Leng Yue looked around, and everyone around her took a step back.
"Go quickly, go quickly. If you get a role this time, you'll get a line in the next movie."
"What? You say you like acting? Someone like you wouldn't succeed even if you were given the chance!"
"Alright, let's not perform anymore. Let's go, let's go. If you're not going to perform, don't hold up others."
The director bombarded Leng Yue with a barrage of words, using both sweet and harsh approaches, along with provocation, until Leng Yue was so overwhelmed she couldn't get down!
"I'll act! Director, I'll act!" Leng Yue was provoked by the director, and a surge of anger rose within her, so she agreed without thinking.
Even as Leng Yue lay dizzy and disoriented in the latrine, she was still dreaming of becoming a star!
Little did she know, the production assistant behind her was giving the director a thumbs up, and the director was also smugly smiling!
The hot weather made the already foul-smelling latrine even more disgusting.
For a realistic effect, Leng Yue had to actually lie inside without any protection.
Leng Yue felt nauseous from the fumes, and coupled with the hot weather and scorching sun, she soon began to feel dizzy.
"Hey, this girl's pretty good. I'll definitely cast her again for a role like this next time!"
"Exactly. Even I, a grown man, find it disgusting to look at her. The fact that she can lie there so calmly is truly remarkable."
"Looks like someone who really wants to act. It's not easy for anyone, sigh!"
In a hazy state, Leng Yue heard their conversation and hoped that someone would help her wake up and leave this awful place. After that, she knew nothing more.
However, Leng Yue was unaware that her appearance on camera was fleeting, and she was no longer required to lie down.
The director had long forgotten about her, and no one cared about her still lying in the cesspool.
In a daze, Leng Yue found herself in a strange place. All white buildings, no people, no animals.
"Is anyone there? Is anyone there?" Leng Yue called out softly, but only heard her own echo.
After waiting for a long time without receiving a response, Leng Yue had no choice but to continue walking forward.
Ahead was a long corridor, with rooms on both sides. The doors of each room were closed.
The cold moon continued its journey forward.
Finally, at the end of the corridor, they saw that the door to room number "0" was not closed.
"Is anyone home? Excuse me, where is this?" Leng Yue knocked on the door and asked.
No one answered, still no one. Leng Yue was somewhat disappointed and was about to leave when she suddenly heard a sound coming from the room.
"Is anyone there? Who's inside?" Leng Yue asked as she walked into the room.
As soon as Leng Yue stepped inside, the door slammed shut with a "snap!" Leng Yue thought to herself, "Oh no, could there be a ghost inside?" She turned around to open the door, only to find that it had vanished!
There were walls all around, so where was the door? The room was completely empty; it was like a hollow box!
"Oh no, could it really be a ghost?" Leng Yue cried, her face contorted with despair. "God, I'm only 18! I haven't done anything wrong! Please don't scare me!"
"Buddha? Jade Emperor? Laozi of Heaven, by the power of law!" Leng Yue rattled off a string of random words, "Is none of them right?"
"Amen? Hallelujah! Why isn't there a door yet? Is this some kind of vengeful ghost?!"
"Oh dear, what should I do? I should have listened to the headmistress and gotten a talisman to wear!"
"What should I do? I want to go home! Guanyin Bodhisattva, please save me!"
"Namo Amitabha Buddha?"
"Heavenly spirits, earthly spirits?"
"May everything go as I wish, as I desire?"
…………
Leng Yue spent all her time trying, but to no avail, and ended up exhausting herself!
"My God, you're finally quiet!" A voice appeared out of nowhere.
"Who...who is speaking? Let me tell you, I...I...I know martial arts, I'm not afraid of you! Whether you're human or ghost, come out if you dare!" Leng Yue was so frightened that she immediately forgot her fatigue and instantly became alert.
"...I am a system," the voice said again.
"What system? A novel?" Leng Yue remained in a defensive stance, looking around.
"You are already dead, but I can take you to other worlds to continue living," the system officially explained.
"I'm dead? I died from the stench?" Leng Yue was stunned. Her first time acting, and she died?
"Strictly speaking, it's called methane poisoning!" the system once again provided the official explanation.
"How could that be?" Leng Yue asked, puzzled.
"Hey lady, have some common sense, will you? That cesspool has been there for ages, and it's hot outside. You could just strike a match and throw it in to ignite the biogas. And you're running in there, lying down like that? Are you sure you're not courting death?" The system couldn't help but complain.
"I don't really understand this." Leng Yue scratched her head. She hadn't even graduated from junior high school before starting to work, so she really didn't know anything about it!
"So, ignorance is bliss! You really need to study hard." The system switched to the tone of an old master.
"..." Leng Yue's face darkened. "You're like a homeroom teacher!"
"By the way, do you have a name? Let me introduce myself. My name is Leng Yue. I used to work as a general assistant on film sets, but now I should be an actress!" Leng Yue thought to herself, she had given her life for acting, so she must be an actress.
"Zero, that's my number, and also my name," the system introduced itself, giving the system a perfunctory response.
"Did you summon me?" Leng Yue thought of novels, where it was always like this.
"Ah? Well... let me show you around my space first!" the system changed the subject.
"Ah? Okay." Leng Yue didn't delve into it further.
