Chapter 11 The Lost Team

The next day.

In the distant east, the sun, covered in golden gauze, quietly showed its head. The morning glow spread from the horizon to the distance, the color changed from dark to light, and then the whole sky lit up.

Zhu Yuanqing didn't have to keep watch, so he leaned against the wall and slept all night in the carriage.

Even with his physique, his shoulders and back felt sore after a night.

After getting out of the car and looking around, he still couldn't find Chen Mu. Not only that, the other three people were not there either.

He had nothing to do, so he just watched everyone light a fire and cook.

The ragged people formed small circles, in the middle of which was a fire made of grass and branches picked up by the psychics, with a pot supported by steel bars on top.

Each small circle is in charge of a person with special abilities. They stir the pot with a spoon. The people around them all stare at the stirring spoon with their nostrils contracted.

People held a blackened plastic bowl in their hands, the kind that cost a few dollars in a bag before the end of the world, but now they treated it as a rare treasure and were so careful not to crush it that they kept swallowing their saliva.

"It's time to eat." A person with special abilities said this, and the people around him all stood up, lined up obediently, and waited for their meals one by one.

There were a few elderly people and children in the front, and a mixture of men and women in the back. No one was making a mess, and no one was rushing people.

The psychic raised the spoon and poured half a spoonful of light yellow sticky substance into the bowl. The child, who was half a person's height, said thank you crisply and sat aside with the bowl.

The pot of paste made from compressed biscuits quickly dried up. Zhu Yuanqing watched from the side, and soon Zhang Yu also brought over a bowl.

"Eat." Zhang Yu handed a clean bowl to Zhu Yuanqing and said, "Don't throw away the bowls. Collect them. We'll need them next time."

"Thank you." Zhu Yuanqing took it and took a sip. The hot porridge was not delicious, but it was a rare delicacy in the apocalypse.

"You're welcome." Zhang Yu shook his head. "You've been a great help since you awakened your powers. We should be the ones thanking you."

"It should be."

In the desolate wilderness, dirty faces carefully held the bowls and drank in small sips. At the end, they used their fingers to dip the residue on the wall of the bowl and put it into their mouths. Only when there was nothing left in the bowl did they slump their shoulders and close their eyes.

No one spoke or moved. They sat on the ground like decayed statues.

Perhaps Zhu Yuanqing had been staring at those people for too long, so Zhang Yu also looked over: "This is their only meal of the day."

He has seen this kind of scene many times in the past three years. At first he felt uncomfortable, but now he has almost gotten used to it.

"There's nothing we can do. We have limited food, but even so, we can only last a few days at most."

All the elements are clear.

This means that these people must be sent to the coastal base as soon as possible. Otherwise, even if there are no zombies, they will close their eyes forever due to lack of water and food.

"Damn it!" Zhang Yu clenched his fists, looked up at the sky, and his chest heaved violently. "When will this damn apocalypse end?"

"Zhang Yu!" Kong Wenhan, who had just come over, also heard his words.

"Captain." Zhang Yu lowered his head and wiped his face when he saw the survivors around him looking at him with fear in their eyes.

"I lost my composure."

After saying that, he left the place without saying a word.

Zhu Yuanqing put the bowl after eating in a cardboard box beside him and keenly noticed that Kong Wenhan was in a bad mood.

"Captain Kong, what happened?"

Kong Wenhan shook his head and took Zhu Yuanqing to a newly set up tent.

Hang Zixuan was also inside.

Since there was no one else around, Kong Wenhan no longer concealed his expression and became extremely serious.

"Jiang Feibai, something went wrong on this mission."

Zhu Yuanqing concentrated and thought of Kong Wenhan and the other team members who had never returned.

"Is it related to your team members?"

Kong Wenhan nodded: "It seems you have guessed it."

"Then I'll explain the whole thing from beginning to end. After I'm done, if you still want to continue this mission, then go ahead. If you want to quit, that's fine too."

"Researcher Hang was not originally from our coastal base. He was a survivor of the destruction of a small base and later joined the coastal base."

"Researcher Hang and his teacher, Professor Zhao, have a very important experiment."

"They discovered that mental power could control zombies to a certain extent, and they began researching this, conceiving a machine that could interfere with zombies' ability to prey on humans."

"Unfortunately, that small base was destroyed and Mr. Zhao disappeared. Only Researcher Hang escaped with some of the information."

Hang Zixuan opened the suitcase that had been closed all the time. Inside was a computer and a lot of paper documents.

He pushed his glasses up and looked at Zhu Yuanqing. "Half a month ago, I picked up the teacher's signal. The base sent Captain Kong out. Ostensibly it was a search and rescue operation, but in reality, they were secretly looking for information about the teacher."

"We've been very close to the signal source in recent days. Captain Kong has dispatched a small team, but so far, we've only received one response."

Hang Zixuan turned on the computer, and there was only a big blood-red word on it - "Save".

It has only been half an hour since it was sent.

In other words, if these people set off quickly enough, the possibility of that group of people surviving would be greatly increased.

This is also the reason why Kong Wenhan came to find Zhu Yuanqing early in the morning.

Zhu Yuanqing tapped his sleeve lightly with his slender index finger, thinking of the reason why the original owner ran away.

That night, the original owner heard Hang Zixuan and deputy captain Han Liang arguing. Han Liang felt that they did not have enough food and manpower, so they should abandon these ordinary people and complete the mission wholeheartedly.
