As soon as she finished speaking, Qin felt an unhappy gaze falling on her. She turned her head and met the old lady's gaze.
Qin swallowed her saliva and lowered her head in dismay: "Mother, why are you looking at me? What I said is the truth..."
Qin became less and less confident as she spoke, and by the end her voice was as soft as the buzz of a mosquito.
The old lady looked at Qin with a sullen face: "You didn't listen to anything I said yesterday. I think you have been the general's wife for so long that you have forgotten your origins!"
"Mother, I..."
Qin was about to speak, but the old lady didn't give her a chance to speak.
The old lady looked at Qin calmly, her expression dignified without anger.
"When you married Chang'an as the daughter of a fifth-rank minister of external affairs, I didn't look down on you because of your background. When you were half a minute late paying your respects for the first time, I didn't scold you at all. Have you forgotten all this?"
Qin's face turned pale and purple. Ever since she married into the general's mansion, the thing she least wanted to mention in her life was her origin.
Being born as a concubine's daughter was a shame in her life. Because of this identity, she was not favored by her parents' family. No good things happened to her. Even her favorite clothes were hers to wear because her elder sister looked down on them.
She was fed up with that kind of life and the feeling of being inferior.
Fortunately, she had a good eye for choosing people and transformed herself into a popular general's wife.
After tasting the taste of being in a high position of power, Qin no longer wanted to recall the miserable days of being inferior to others.
Not only did she not want to mention her identity as a concubine, she also did not allow anyone in the general's mansion to mention it.
Everyone in the General's Mansion knew her weak spot, so naturally they didn't dare discuss her identity in private.
As time went by, Qin gradually forgot about the matter. Now that her life experience was exposed by the old lady, she felt as if she had been stripped naked, leaving her vanity and embarrassment nowhere to hide.
When Qin was feeling ashamed and angry about this matter, the old lady gave her another critical blow.
"It's not even time yet, and you're already finding fault with me. After all these years, haven't you learned even the simple principle of not doing to others what you don't want done to yourself? It seems I've been too indulgent with you!"
As the old lady finished speaking, Qin's face suddenly turned pale, and she vaguely guessed what the old lady would say next.
"Mother, mother, I know I was wrong. I will definitely remember your words in the future!"
Qin hurriedly bowed her head and admitted her mistake, wanting to put the matter behind her, but how could the old lady be so easily fooled?
The old lady closed her eyes and pinched her eyebrows. When she opened them again, her eyes were sharp and her expression was unquestionable.
"I think your arrogant and domineering nature will eventually lead to trouble. Pack up your things today and go to the old farm in Fuyang to reflect on your actions for a month. You are not allowed to leave without permission before the time is up. If you can't control your superiority complex, you will have to stay there and never come back."
Just a few words made Qin look as pale as death.
"Mother, I, I know I was wrong. Please take back your decision!"
The old lady said with a resolute look: "If you dare to ask for mercy again, you will have to reflect on your actions for half a year!"
The words that were on the tip of Qin's tongue got stuck in her throat. She didn't dare to say another word, for fear that the old lady would really let her stay in that remote place for more than half a year.
After washing up, Jiang Jingyu quickly came over. After meeting the old lady's gaze, she smiled softly and then bowed to the old lady.
"Granddaughter-in-law greets grandma, grandma is well."
As early as the moment Jiang Jingyu came in, the old lady had put away the seriousness on her face and was now looking at her with a kind face.
Seeing Jiang Jingyu's well-behaved appearance and dignified and generous behavior, the old lady nodded with satisfaction and looked at her with a smile: "Get up, get up quickly, there is no need to be polite in front of your grandmother."
Jiang Jingyu straightened up, took the teacup handed to her by the nanny, took two steps forward and held it in front of the old lady.
"Grandma, please have some tea."
The old lady took the teacup and took a sip. After she placed the teacup on the table, Jiang Jingyu turned around and went to Qin on the other side.
"The daughter-in-law has met her mother."
Qin's face was pale, and she had not yet recovered from the fact that she was going back to her hometown in Fuyang.
Jiang Jingyu called out again: "Daughter-in-law pays respects to mother."
Qin didn't respond. The old lady beside her frowned, "Feng Wan, what are you staring at?"
Hearing the old lady's voice, Qin shuddered all over as if she had been electrocuted.
"Get up, get up!"
In front of the old lady, Qin did not dare to embarrass Jiang Jingyu.
Jiang Jingyu served tea to Qin. Just as Qin took the teacup handed to her by Jiang Jingyu, the old lady's voice sounded in the main seat.
"Jingyu, come quickly to grandma."
The old lady waved to Jiang Jingyu with a friendly expression, her attitude completely different from that towards Qin.
Jiang Jingyu walked obediently to the old lady and waited for her instructions.
The old lady took her hand, moved to the side, and let Jiang Jingyu sit next to her.
"Jingyu, good child, grandma is very happy that you can come to the General's Mansion. From now on, the General's Mansion will be your home. You don't need to be restrained."
Jiang Jingyu smiled slightly: "Yes, grandma."
The old lady took Jiang Jingyu's hand and talked to her, and was very intimate with her.
Firstly, it was because the old lady had a good first impression of her, and secondly, it was because the old lady felt she owed her.
The old lady just wanted to influence Jiang Jingyu through words and actions, so that she would let go of the grudges in her heart and treat the general's mansion as her own home.
Qin slammed the teacup heavily on the table to vent her dissatisfaction.
But the old lady's attention was now all on Jiang Jingyu, and she didn't even glance at Qin.
