"Elder Zhang." Lu Ming bowed slightly to the man, and Elder Zhang noticed the bundle Lu Ming was carrying.
Unlike Meng Ting, who was blind, he could tell at a glance that the person in his arms was a child.
"Lu Ming, where did you bring this child from?" Elder Zhang asked, frowning. Lu Ming didn't seem like the type to steal someone else's child and bring him to the sect.
“Elder Zhang, I found her on the road. I saw that her face was pale, and it seemed that she had been abandoned there for a long time. No one would take her back, so I picked her up. I thought that our sect has taken in quite a few people, so one more wouldn't be a big deal. I brought her back. It's a good opportunity for Master to take a look at her aptitude and see if she can stay here and we can ask an elder to take her as a disciple.”
“Lu Ming, you’re dreaming. Our sect taking in those people is a great act of kindness, but it doesn’t mean that everyone in our sect should stay here. If that were the case, what would be the point of cultivating immortality? We might as well just go to the mortal world and open a charity hall.” Meng Ting said with dissatisfaction, becoming even more contemptuous of Lu Ming: “I would like to ask the elder to accept this person of unknown origin as a disciple. Do you think all the elders here are like cabbages?”
"Alright, Meng Ting, that's enough. Stop talking." Elder Zhang stopped Meng Ting from continuing.
It wasn't that he was dissatisfied with his disciple; it was precisely because he valued his disciple that he didn't want these words to reach Elder He's ears.
I don't know what his senior brother was thinking. He didn't want the perfectly good Meng Ting, but insisted on choosing Lu Ming, who had only average talent, as his disciple, and even protected him so much.
Elder Zhang, unwilling to clash with Elder He, pulled Meng Ting away.
Lu Ming looked at his senior brother, who had repeatedly come out to challenge him to a fight, and was somewhat speechless.
Because of Meng Ting blocking his way, Lu Ming returned a little later.
Elder He, who was meditating with his eyes closed, heard the rustling of clothes and knew that his disciple had returned.
"It's that Meng Ting again?"
"Yes, Master," Lu Ming answered honestly, without offering any words of pleading. He had suffered enough at Meng Ting's hands; he wasn't stupid, and wouldn't be so foolish as to plead for him or say anything nice at a time like this.
Of course, he knew it was useless; at least his master would never fall out with Elder Zhang and never speak to him again.
"You are honest too," Elder He said, though it was unclear whether he was expressing admiration or praise.
Lu Ming stood silently to the side, and Elder He also saw the child he was holding.
Elder He stretched out his hand, and the child slowly floated into his arms: "Since you brought her here, perhaps it is fate. I will accept her. However, since Junior Brother Zhang saw us today, I will have to say a few words to the sect leader. I'm afraid I will not be her master."
"Master?" Lu Ming looked up at Elder He in surprise.
Elder He smiled and said, "Let's go. The sect leader is still waiting for us. I'm also curious about this child's aptitude."
“Master, why don’t you give her a name first?” Lu Ming said. “Regardless of whether you can be her master or not, I want you to give her a name.”
“Indeed, we can’t keep calling the child ‘little girl’; she should have a name.” Elder He looked at the ugly birthmark on the child’s face in his arms, and watched as she groggily opened her eyes and revealed a bright smile.
