Chapter 1060 There's a Little Monster on the Mountain 26.34

Rong Xu's expression was indifferent. He was walking up a slope on the dirt road. He didn't know who he was or why he was here, but his feet seemed to know the way and involuntarily walked in one direction.

He continued walking forward, and after turning a corner, he saw a quiet courtyard halfway up the mountain. The courtyard was surrounded by a wooden fence, and several ginkgo trees rustled in the wind. Wild chrysanthemums were in full bloom in the distance, wafting a delicate fragrance.

Quilts were drying in the courtyard, along with several full water vats and some scattered grains of millet. Chicks were flapping their wings and clucking. It was an ordinary farm scene, but Rong Xu stopped in his tracks, his gaze fixed on her.

This scene seemed to be something he had never seen before, but for some reason, a voice in his mind kept telling him that this was his home, the place where he had lived for many years.

He stood outside, staring blankly at the familiar yet utterly alien scene. After a long while, he finally mustered the courage to step into the courtyard. With a gentle push, the door creaked open...

Rong Xu turned his head and saw a table with some freshly picked oranges on it.

Rong Xu stood there, a look of bewilderment gradually appearing in his eyes, lost in thought.

Just then, light footsteps came from ahead, and a woman dressed in a green ruqun (a type of traditional Chinese dress) with her hair in a bun walked out of the room with her head down. Her clothes were elegant, but her appearance was exceptionally beautiful. Her smooth black hair was tied up with a simple wooden hairpin. She looked up and saw Rong Xu standing there. She was startled at first, and then smiled softly, "Husband, why are you back so early today?"

The woman stood there, her face beautiful and her figure graceful, and she smiled softly at him: "Husband, why are you back so early today?"

Rong Xu stared at her blankly, his vision blurring for a moment once again, as if everything here was just a dream and had never existed at all.

Rong Xu felt a sharp pain in his head, his vision blurred, and the scene before him shattered and reassembled countless times in his mind.

He gazed tenderly at the woman before him, then suddenly smiled slightly: "I'm back." It was as if he truly were the master of this place, and the woman opposite him was the wife he had admired for many years.

Lu Qingsi smiled and gently brushed a strand of hair behind her ear. Her eyes were tender and her voice was melodious: "Husband, please sit for a while. Dinner will be ready soon."

He turned and went back into the inner room. Rong Xu paused, walked to the table and sat down. He picked up an orange from the plate, peeled it, broke off a segment and bit into it. It was very sour and astringent. It seemed that the orange was not ripe enough before it was picked?

Rong Xu stared blankly at the oranges on the plate, lost in thought.

Not long after, Lu Qingsi came out from inside, set out the food, and sat down virtuously to the side. She smiled at Rong Xu and said, "Husband, are you tired? Those children outside are young, and it's already hard work to teach them. You also have to take the exam. How can your body take it?"

Rong Xu smiled and shook his head, looking at Lu Qingsi. He said, "It's alright, but it's my wife who has really worked hard managing the household affairs."

Lu Qingsi looked away, seemingly a little shy, a faint blush rising on her cheeks. She smiled and said, "For my husband, I won't go through the hardship."

Rong Xu smiled as he watched her, picked up his chopsticks and tried the side dishes on the table. The dishes tasted ordinary, but he found a different flavor in them.
