Even though they knew no one would expose them.
“What’s inconvenient about it? It’s even more inconvenient to use our own identities.” Hua Yeshuang was quite open-minded and reassured Hua Yeyu, “We’ve already found out that the Third Princess won’t be here right now. What’s there to worry about? Don’t scare yourself.”
"What about Ren Fengyan? Should we just leave her here?" Looking at the dilapidated noblewomen around them, Hua Yeyu had a headache. One or two people would be fine, but with so many, it would be inconvenient for them to cover up.
"Alright, stop worrying about this. With her status, who would dare to mess with her?" Hua Yeyu pulled her brother away from his overthinking. This brother was usually quite smart, but sometimes he would make a mistake. To put it nicely, he was kind; to put it bluntly, he was a bit dim-witted.
The two brothers quickly slipped away with the seal, ignoring the people on the ground.
However, they did not expect that the moment they left, the window, which had been half-open, moved and someone slipped in.
The man was tall and looked very thin, but he was very agile in every movement.
The man didn't linger. He glanced around, his gaze settling on Ren Fengyan. With a swift movement, he slashed the knife, splattering blood across the table. He reached down and checked her neck again; she was already lifeless.
The moonlight was as clear as water, and its gentle glow streamed through the window, illuminating the room brightly. The blood on the table was no longer visible in its original color, but rather a dark mass, and the air was filled with the stench of blood.
The newcomer chuckled softly, his voice androgynous: "The mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind. You only see the cicada in front of you, so how can you pay attention to the oriole behind you? Not to mention, how can you tell if you are the oriole yourself?"
A gentle breeze stirred the window, but the person had vanished without a trace.
Meanwhile, the Hua brothers handed the seal to Lu Qingyan and complained to her, "We originally thought we came to His Highness's residence to be advisors, but we ended up running errands. If those who tried to win us over find out, they'll probably criticize His Highness a lot."
"Oh?" Lu Qingyan raised an eyebrow: "Do you two feel wronged by coming to my place?"
“Since you’ve already made up your mind, and some situations were expected, what’s there to feel aggrieved about?” Hua Yeshuang looked at Lu Qingyan and said, “If Your Highness feels that we’ve been wronged, then you should treat us well.”
The last sentence, spoken in a coquettish and affected tone, gave Lu Qingyan goosebumps.
"Treat you well..." Lu Qingyan felt like she was being teased. The way this guy said it sounded like a respectable young man entrusting his life to someone.
Hua Yeyu glared at Hua Yeshuang and warned him to restrain himself, but Hua Yeshuang ignored her.
Hua Yeyu thought about the seal she had seen and said, "Your Highness, I don't know if I'm being paranoid, but there seems to be something wrong with that seal, though I haven't noticed it. Please examine it carefully yourself."
Lu Qingyan tossed the seal in her hand, looked at Hua Yeyu's worried expression, smiled sarcastically, and said nonchalantly, "Of course there's a problem, this thing is completely fake."
Hua Yeshuang's heart skipped a beat, and she quickly apologized: "Your Highness, I would never dare to deceive you. This seal was indeed taken from the Fourth Princess. I did not tamper with it."
Lu Qingyan twirled her fingers and smiled, "Of course I have complete faith in you, sir."
