Chapter 435 The Substitute Bride 13.19

"Look at the clothes those people are wearing, they're almost like the master's. Who knows what kind of old man they are? You'd better not tell Madam."

“That’s right, the master will be back soon, what’s there to worry about?” another person chimed in, thus putting the matter aside.

No one expected that their act of acting on their own initiative would cause their wife to lose the initiative.

After court, Fu's father, as usual, took a sedan chair to have a bowl of tea before returning home. Unexpectedly, someone stopped his sedan chair outside the mansion.

"Lord Fu, please wait." Butler Sun called out from outside.

"Stop the sedan chair!" Father Fu lifted the curtain and asked, "What is it?" Censors like him often encountered people seeking justice stopping their sedan chairs, but that was always before going to court. This was the first time he had encountered someone like this on his way back home.

He lifted the sedan curtain as usual, but felt that the young man looked familiar, as if he had seen him somewhere before.

Fortunately, Imperial Censor Fu had a good memory and remembered: "So it was Steward Sun from Prince De's residence."

Imperial Censor Fu nodded, secretly observing him. He was a fine young man, but unfortunately, he was just a servant in the Prince's mansion.

"Lord Fu, this servant has a letter from the Princess Consort to you." Steward Sun didn't say anything more and simply took out the letter.

"A letter?" Imperial Censor Fu chuckled. "Ziwu is just as lazy as her sister. She's already homesick on her first day of marriage and even wrote me a letter? I really appreciate Steward Sun's help."

As the Imperial Censor Fu spoke, his servant handed Sun Ping a purse containing loose silver.

Sun Ping declined to accept the gifts, saying, "I'm just a servant running errands, Imperial Censor Fu, there's no need for that. I have business to attend to here." As he spoke, Sun Ping moved aside, revealing two large boxes. "Today, the Princess Consort was taking inventory of these items and discovered that they were all fake, so she had me deliver them. The Princess Consort said that since she and the Princess Consort of Prince Yi married together, it was inevitable that Madam Fu would have made some oversights. It wouldn't be good if these words got out, so she sent the items over."

Upon hearing this, Imperial Censor Fu's face turned ashen; he already knew why Steward Sun had come here.

He had originally planned to read the letter carefully after returning home, but unexpectedly, Steward Sun explained everything to him.

Father Fu immediately opened the unsealed letter, pulled out the thin sheet of paper, and read the contents, which indeed concerned the dowry.

Mr. Fu couldn't actually tell whether the letter was written by the original owner of the body, Fu Ziwu. He was a father, but also an outsider. Fu Ziwu wasn't his eldest daughter, and he rarely had the chance to see her, so he wasn't entirely sure how good her writing skills were. But he knew that both of his daughters were married, and to outstanding men, which put his mind at ease.

He thought he had treated his two daughters well, and that he had climbed to the rank of second-grade official through his own abilities. He felt he had given them a bright future and was very proud of being a good father. But this letter from his youngest daughter, Fu Ziwu, tore away this veil of pretense.

Some things can be big or small. Imperial Censor Fu believed that he had never mistreated his wife and daughter, and this time Fu Ziwu had suffered a great injustice.

Withholding dowry? The work of servants? Imperial Censor Fu didn't believe a single word of these claims.

When he married Madam Fu, he knew she was capable, and over the years of their marriage, she has never disappointed him.
