"What happened? What's wrong? What's wrong with the princess?" Shangguan Li asked anxiously, very worried that something had happened to Fu Zige.
Shangguan Ren wasn't worried at all. He carefully put away the scrambled chess pieces one by one, then smiled and said, "Fifth Brother is too nervous. What could possibly happen to your wife at your father's house?"
After glancing at the kneeling maid, Shangguan Ren said in a deep voice, "What happened? Speak properly."
"Your Highness, Princess Yi and Master are arguing." Sure enough, something happened, but it wasn't anything life-threatening.
Even the best teeth and tongue can clash, so a quarrel between a father and daughter is nothing unusual. But this maid's sudden pause halfway through her sentence startled Shangguan Li quite a bit.
Shangguan Ren threw down the chess piece in his hand: "Let's go, let's go take a look now. My wife should be over there too. I just don't know what happened?" The last sentence was probably directed at the maid.
The maid who delivered the message bowed her head and said, "Madam is ill, and Master has ordered that no one is allowed to visit her. But no one knows when Princess Yi entered Madam's Begonia Courtyard. No one expected that Madam would go mad now. Princess Yi says that it was Granny Xu who did it, but Granny Xu denies it, saying that it was all the eldest young lady's slander, and that Madam only went mad after the eldest young lady arrived. Master says that he believes Granny Xu, but Princess Yi thinks that Master is protecting Granny Xu."
Shangguan Li said with dissatisfaction, "What kind of nanny is she? She's just a servant kept in the house. Lord Fu is really something, making trouble for his own daughter over a servant. That old hag's words clearly implied that Fu Zige was behind Madam Fu's condition. How could that be?"
"There are so many people in Haitang Courtyard, it's not necessarily Xu Mama. Lord Fu will find out who is right and who is wrong. Fifth Brother, you should hurry and invite the imperial physician to the mansion to see if Mother-in-law's illness can still be cured." Shangguan Ren's gaze fell on the servant beside him.
The maid said, "Princess Yi has already sent someone to invite the best imperial physician from the Imperial Hospital. They should be on their way by now."
"That's good!" Shangguan Ren nodded and said to Shangguan Li beside him, "Fifth Brother, don't worry. We'll wait until the head of the Imperial Hospital makes a diagnosis. Madam Fu is a lucky person and will be fine."
"That old hag!" Shangguan Li cursed under his breath. In his opinion, regardless of whether this matter had anything to do with Granny Xu or not, Granny Xu should not be kept around if she had offended Fu Zige.
"If this were in my residence, I would have sold that old hag off immediately, so she wouldn't be an eyesore in front of the Princess! If this has nothing to do with her, a servant, why would she try to push it onto her master?"
Shangguan Ren advised, "Fifth Brother is young and impetuous, and too impulsive. Since Xu Mama is valued by Lord Fu, even if she is just a servant, she is a servant with status in this mansion. Lord Fu's belief in her is an affirmation of her character, and there is no direct evidence pointing to her as the murderer. Fifth Brother, you should not speak so confidently."
"Who else could it be but Granny Xu? Zige wouldn't falsely accuse someone for no reason." Shangguan Li snorted coldly, flicked her sleeves, quickened her pace, and left Shangguan Ren a few steps behind.
Shangguan Ren shook his head behind him, scoffed, and followed: "You really have the temper of a child. Your older brother is protecting you."
Fu Zige? Only his foolish fifth brother would believe how innocent and naive this woman is.
