Lu Qingyan lowered the carriage curtain and continued to listen to the sound of the carriage wheels.
"Meow," a cat's meow pulled Chen Jiyan out of his thoughts, and he asked, "Ayan, is this the one I gave you back then?"
A soft "Mmm" came from inside the car.
Shen Jiyan couldn't help but smile slightly: "I didn't expect you to still have it with you. I thought you would have thrown it away a long time ago."
Lu Qingyan raised her eyelids slightly: "Is it because Brother Jiyan hasn't seen the field much that he thinks I threw it away a long time ago?"
"Perhaps, after all, I didn't ask you about it in detail after I gave it to you."
"After Granny Chang moved out of Jianjia Palace by herself, I was worried that she would not be able to adapt on her own, so I left Su Han with her."
When Su Han heard Lu Qingyan call its name, it raised its head and meowed at Lu Qingyan several times. Lu Qingyan scratched its head and neck, and it finally calmed down.
"I've always been curious, why would Ayan give it such a name?" Shen Jiyan asked.
"It's just a name, why are you so curious? Actually, I don't know why I named it that. It's like a long time ago I had a cat that looked exactly like it, so I just unconsciously called it by the same name."
Lu Qingyan lifted the other side of the carriage curtain and looked out. She saw that the surrounding area was densely forested, with trees on one side noticeably taller than those on the other. The road ahead seemed to be winding yet also straight, appearing and disappearing in the distance.
Suddenly, I heard the whistling of the wind.
Lu Qingyan couldn't help but pull the agate tassel down with her.
"Ah—" Liu Su screamed in pain. She was a little too slow and the arrow had wounded her arm. She grimaced in pain: "Princess, am I going to die like this?"
Agate glared at her: "Sister Liusu, what nonsense are you talking about? It's just a small injury, you'll definitely get better."
Unsure just how dense the arrows were, Lu Qingyan felt as if the carriage had spun around several times before finally coming to a stop.
Lu Qingyan knew that the horse outside must have been killed by an arrow.
The cat in her arms became restless, meowing incessantly and trying to break free and run away. Lu Qingyan, feeling the tension of the surroundings, held it even tighter, which only made the cat more agitated.
“Princess,” Agate said, her eyes glazed over as she looked at Lu Qingyan, whose forehead had turned purplish-blue. “Princess, what should we do now? We don’t even know if those people outside are still alive.”
Lu Qingyan gritted her teeth: "Regardless of whether those people outside are still alive or not, we must try our best to survive. Come on, let's run out of here quickly."
The newcomers' target was obvious; after the rain of arrows, a longsword was plunged into the carriage.
Liu Su turned and stood in front of Lu Qingyan and Manao. A spurt of bright red blood instantly gushed from his chest, staining Lu Qingyan's red dress even more vividly. Liu Su forced a smile: "Princess, in this state, I'm afraid I won't have the chance to serve you anymore. Thank you, Princess, for giving me this last chance to be loyal. Princess, you must live well. Manao, you must take good care of the Princess as well."
By the end, Liu Su's breathing had become erratic, and Lu Qingyan could no longer hear her clearly.
Looking at Liu Su's lifeless appearance and thinking about all the years she had spent with her, Lu Qingyan couldn't help but clench her hands.
