The moon has set and the stars are few. Gusts of wind are blowing here, dispelling the heat that should have been there, and bringing with it a strange chill and gloom.
When Lu Qingyan arrived, she saw Changsheng with red eyes, slumped over a servant's head. A pale blue light fell from the servant's body into Changsheng's mouth, and he gradually calmed down.
Lu Qingyan knew he was too late. If they tried now, neither of them could save either of them, and they might even lose themselves. She watched helplessly as the servant turned into a emaciated skeleton, his skin turning from wheat-colored to black, his eyes wide and fixed on the distance. Only his hair remained jet black and glossy, but it seemed to be crawling with worms; for a moment, she couldn't tell if it was hair or worms.
"Chang Sheng!" Lu Qingyan called out his name in fear.
Chang Sheng gave a wicked smile, his scarlet eyes flashed, then returned to complete darkness as if nothing had happened.
Changsheng seemed unaware of what was happening before his eyes. He looked around and said in distress, "Moon Lady, what should I do? I killed someone again today."
The voice was fragile yet clear, like a sweet spring, yet carrying endless regret.
Lu Qingyan finally asked hesitantly, "Has he ever bullied you?"
"I...I don't remember anything." Changsheng clutched his head in anguish. "I only remember that among those who hurt me was that person from yesterday, I don't know anything else. I don't even know why I killed someone. Yueniang, I'm burdened with the sins of killing, I can't be reincarnated!"
Changsheng said painfully, "I am not willing to die like this, but I am also unwilling to miss my chance to be reincarnated because of revenge. But now, I no longer have that chance."
"Chang Sheng, you still have a chance. As long as you don't let that malevolent energy affect you, stop killing people, and accumulate more merit over the years, you can be reincarnated again." Lu Qingyan could only offer this advice, trying not to let Chang Sheng walk into a dead end.
If he gives up everything on his own, what will happen next? Will he have to wait for a skilled Taoist priest to come and take him in?
Ghosts are inherently rejected by this world. How could they possibly fare well if they fell into the hands of those people? They speak sweet words, claiming to be protecting the safety of all living beings, but they are clearly just coveting that power to satisfy their own selfish desires!
"I know you're saying all this to comfort me, but I don't need it." Changsheng held his head, enduring the pain. He saw everything clearly and plainly.
She was not familiar with the person in front of her, or rather, the ghost. She was just comforting herself with pity. What was there to be interested in?
“It’s not about comforting you.” Lu Qingyan shook her head. “There are only the two of us in this courtyard, and only the two of us are different. I want to get along well with you, and when the time is right, we will choose our own paths. I’m not telling you this to comfort you or to pity you, but just hoping that you can be strong and that we can spend the rest of our lives together as friends.”
"You've really thought long ahead about the future," Changsheng said, whether he was sighing or mocking Lu Qingyan. "At least I've never thought about that."
