How could they, so proud, endure such a life? In the daily grind, they lost their former glory, until finally they became no different from ordinary people.
This is when they are abandoned. They haven't learned anything here yet, and they are forced to survive in their own way. Most of them will face extinction.
But among them were some of their kind who had survived by sheer luck. They knew what had happened to their departed companions, but they were powerless to save them and could only migrate to more distant places to escape the killings of those people.
Gradually, they came to regard not leaving their tribe's habitat as a tribal rule, and anyone who left was considered a traitor.
The kind-hearted mermaid wouldn't do anything cruel to these so-called traitors; she simply wouldn't welcome them back to their familiar home.
The original owner of this body, Xiao Rou, was a restless young girl, but the more things were forbidden, the more curious she became. When she was young, she secretly sneaked over to observe human life and even transformed herself into legs to walk on that land.
She once met a child who was about her age and treated her to grilled fish.
Thus, the delicious taste, unlike the raw and cold flavors of aquatic food, instantly captivated her taste buds and determined her future.
Despite the opposition of her tribe elders, she insisted on venturing into the human world to make her way in the world and create delicious ocean delicacies with her own hands. This angered her tribe.
"Xiao Rou," the kind-looking elder glared at her with a furious expression, "Do you know what you're saying? You were originally my most promising junior, how could you betray our people?"
"Chieftain!" Xiao Rou was heartbroken. She had never thought of betraying her people, but she couldn't give up her dream.
“Chief, the seawater is different now than before. We can’t hide here forever. Going to the human world is dangerous, but there’s a chance of survival there.” Xiaorou was smart, and what she said made some sense, but not everyone could calmly accept this reality.
"Enough!" the chieftain roared. "I know this place is no longer suitable for us to live, but we have lived in the water for generations and we absolutely cannot abandon this place. Going to the human world, do you know what that means? It means the repeat of our tragedy! They are jealous of our uniqueness and imprison us like playthings for others to watch. Is this what you call a good life?"
"Chieftain, as long as we are careful, we will definitely not be discovered," Xiao Rou advised, after all, she still hoped that everyone could leave this place with her.
However, neither of them agreed.
Some of the more stubborn members of their tribe even drove themselves out of the merfolk and stopped acknowledging themselves as members of the merfolk.
Xiao Rou was very sad, but her people were worried that those people would come back again, so they moved away from the place where they had lived for hundreds of years.
Xiao Rou could no longer find them.
She felt she had made a mistake; she shouldn't have angered the clan leader, and she shouldn't have made arbitrary decisions about the future of all the clan members.
She was heartbroken and unwilling to face this outcome, so she did not leave the ocean. Instead, she searched for her former people day after day, but as the ocean grew increasingly murky and she turned into foam, she still could not find them.
