On her deathbed, Xiaorou finally realized that her initial decision was not wrong.
She died because of the increasingly murky seawater; her people probably met the same fate long ago.
Lu Qingyan saw a phantom that looked exactly like her. The phantom smiled gently at Lu Qingyan and said, "You've come to help me fulfill my wish. Are you the Sea God?"
Lu Qingyan shook her head: "No."
The Little Mermaid lowered her head in disappointment, but quickly raised it again: "It doesn't matter if it's not true or not, as long as you can save them. I hope we can still live together and have a home together. Also, please help me fulfill my original dream. I want them to like eating fish and I want them to protect the sea."
Lu Qingyan nodded in agreement.
She thought for a while. The timing of her arrival was very opportune, just when Xiao Rou was about to tell her tribe her dream and the conversation with her tribe broke down.
"Xiao Rou," a voice called in Lu Qingyan's ear, and a pink fishtail came into view: "Chief Xiao Rou is looking for you."
“Okay, I’ll go right now.” Lu Qingyan obediently agreed and followed the girl with the pink fishtail to see the clan leader.
Along the way, she chattered on and on: "Xiao Rou, do you know why the clan leader wanted to see you?"
Lu Qingyan was both amused and exasperated by these words: "Xiao Hong, you were the one who came to find me, how could I know if you didn't even know?"
“Oh right,” Xiao Hong chuckled and scratched her head, then frowned in distress. “But the clan leader only told me to come find you, he didn’t tell me what happened at all. Why won’t you tell me?”
"Alright," Lu Qingyan reached out and flicked her head, "What do you want to hear? We'll talk about it when I see the clan leader."
Lu Qingyan swam back with him and soon reached the vicinity of a reef. The elderly clan chief was surrounded by his clansmen, his wise eyes now tightly closed.
"Clan Chief." Lu Qingyan stood in front of him and called out respectfully. Then the old man opened his eyes and looked at Lu Qingyan.
"Do you know why I called you here?" the clan chief asked.
Lu Qingyan shook her head.
The chieftain said with displeasure, "I heard that you've been heading towards the land inhabited by humans lately?"
As soon as she finished speaking, everyone's eyes fell on Lu Qingyan. There was curiosity, confusion, but more than anything, there was anger that came from the bottom of their bones.
"Does the clan leader have something to say?" Lu Qingyan asked frankly, not backing down at all because of his cold face.
"Do you know that such behavior is forbidden in our clan? Or have you grown too big for your britches and are you planning to betray your clan?" The clansman squinted, and an invisible pressure instantly fell on Lu Qingyan.
However, Lu Qingyan did not rush to say anything about moving to the land. Instead, she asked the clan leader, "Clan leader, have you noticed that the water around us is different from before? Sometimes we feel very uncomfortable, but we can't find the reason."
“I heard from the little dolphin that these are all things that humans did. That’s why I’m going there to see for myself and find out what they’ve been doing,” Lu Qingyan said, which was much more palatable than straightforward advice.
The clan chief's expression shifted slightly, but he still advised, "You don't need to worry about this."
