Consort Xian was right, but only Consort De knows about this now.
The Emperor issued an imperial decree to Consort De, instructing her to help select consorts for the four princes, and also forbidding her from leaking this information.
Consort De didn't know what the Emperor was really thinking. But ever since she received the imperial edict, she hadn't been happy. She didn't think it meant the Emperor valued her; on the contrary, she felt it was a hot potato she couldn't accept.
Needless to say, Prince Chen has been left unchecked since he went to the border. Over the years, he has become too powerful to touch. If she were to pick someone he doesn't like, it wouldn't be making friends, but rather creating enmity. Then, which of the princess's family or Prince Chen would let her off the hook? Although they might not be able to openly attack her, who knows what methods they might use behind the scenes to hold her accountable?
As for Prince Ning, the Second Prince has become increasingly unpredictable in recent years, making it impossible for outsiders to easily fathom his thoughts. Even if he doesn't set any conditions for choosing a wife, he still has Consort Xian behind him, and she's no pushover. Over the years, he hasn't gotten anything good out of her. If he chooses the wrong person, he'll offend both Prince Ning and Consort Xian.
As for the Third Prince, Prince Jing, Consort De felt that he could be ignored. A prince who was not favored by the Emperor could be easily dealt with by simply assigning him a woman.
(Lu Qingyan: "Meow meow meow, no, I don't want to marry a princess. If I could, I would only want a king.")
The fourth prince, Prince Qin, could be considered for marriage to his niece from his maternal family.
The fourth prince's birth mother and she used to be close friends. Although their relationship was not good after entering the palace, the fourth prince had met his niece from his maternal family a long time ago because of her.
They just happened to hit it off, didn't do anything inappropriate, and even kept in touch privately. If we could help these two get together, it would be a wonderful story.
Consort De was worried about this matter for several days, and finally Consort Xian came to visit.
Consort Xian was a clever woman. She knew that the Emperor hadn't spread the news because he didn't want anyone to know. So she didn't say that she had guessed the inside story. Instead, she planned to play the emotional card with Consort De, even though there wasn't much affection between them.
"You seem quite busy, Consort De. The Emperor has actually bypassed me and entrusted the selection of concubines to you." Consort Xian led a large entourage to Consort De's palace.
"Sister Xianfei has been quite busy these past few days, what brings you to my humble abode?" Unsure of the visitor's purpose, Consort De should have greeted her with a smile. However, Xianfei's words were rather unpleasant, so Consort De didn't stand on ceremony.
Consort Xian did not continue to argue, but instead began to show weakness: "Look at what you're saying, little sister. Even if I'm busy, I won't forget you. As soon as I have a free moment, I come to talk to you."
Consort De's smile was somewhat stiff. Both of them were consorts with princes in their families; how could they possibly get along? Even though the Second Prince and the Sixth Prince were significantly different in age, Consort Xian wouldn't let her guard down. Although she hadn't made a move, she had been keeping a close eye on them.
"Sister Xianfei never visits without a reason, so it must be something important for you to come to my place." Consort De asked with a smile, "I wonder what's on your mind, sister? Why don't you tell me and I'll help you out."
Consort Xian's eyes lit up, and she knew that Consort De had agreed.
