Lu Qingyan once thought that one day she could escape from here and repay the Lu family's little brother.
But later they destroyed it all.
Lu Qingyan felt that she was determined to escape in this life! She was already fifteen or sixteen years old when she first had this idea in her previous life.
By then, the little devil of the Hu family had already grown up, and he was no match for him. He found him and blocked him inside the house.
Now, that little guy is only six years old, the age when he's most playful, so this time there's definitely no chance of anything going wrong.
Lu Qingyan went to the kitchen, cut and kneaded the risen dough, put it in a steamer, stir-fried two dishes, and brought them to the table before the three of them got up.
When Hu's mother saw the dish, she immediately frowned and said, "You brat, what's the meaning of putting so much oil in it? Do you think it's easy to earn money at home? And you're just wasting it like this!"
As she was about to start working, Lu Qingyan timidly shrank into the corner and looked at Hu's mother: "Mom, please don't do this. I just think my little brother is young and should eat better to nourish him."
When Hu Yuanzhi was mentioned, Hu's mother's expression softened a little: "Since it's Yuanzhi, we'll let it go this time, but don't use so much next time."
Lu Qingyan nodded hesitantly, indicating that she understood.
Hu Yuanzhi, his mouth greasy with food, glared at Lu Qingyan with his round eyes, then turned to his mother and said in a spoiled tone, "Mom, didn't you say she's a money-loser? Why does she call you Mom? Why does she call me brother? Humph, I have nothing to do with her."
Hu's mother hugged Hu Yuanzhi and said, "What I told you is right. She's just someone who works for our family. Don't pay any attention to her."
Lu Qingyan kept her head down silently, as if she hadn't heard anything.
Hu's father also ate his steamed buns and vegetables in big mouthfuls, completely ignoring Lu Qingyan.
After finishing their meal, the three of them prepared to leave. Lu Qingyan watched as Hu's mother approached, counted the remaining steamed buns, and gave Lu Qingyan a warning look: "You're only allowed to eat half."
It was as if eating even half a more piece would have been the death of her.
Lu Qingyan gave a soft "hmm".
The family of three then left satisfied.
The door was tightly locked, and Lu Qingyan was not allowed to go out. She was like a prisoner locked in this room, without the right to leave.
After Hu's mother left, Lu Qingyan ignored her instructions and ate two steamed buns before stopping.
She let out a satisfied burp, very happy that she had finally eaten her fill.
She had to escape and never stay here again. This was Lu Qingyan's belief. She knew from the television at home that the outside world was vast, and this was her only chance to learn about it.
Every time the Hu family watched TV, or the family across the street watched TV, Lu Qingyan would quietly prick up her ears and listen while she worked. She seemed to understand this world, yet she also seemed not to understand it very well.
After Lu Qingyan finished eating, she found a large bag and put all the steamed buns in it. After thinking for a moment, she also put in the jar of pickled vegetables that was left over from previous New Year's goods.
The steamed buns were delicious, but the pickled vegetables were good too. Lu Qingyan remembered that if Hu's mother hadn't said that pickled vegetables had no nutritional value, none of them would have been left over.
Lu Qingyan was very happy, knowing that having food meant she wouldn't go hungry while out.
The backpack she found was quite large, and it became rather heavy after putting those two items inside. However, Lu Qingyan felt that she should bring some other things as well.
