"Little girl, what's your name?" Rong Xu asked. The little girl in his eyes was thin and frail, and looked to be only six or seven years old. Shouldn't someone so young be pampered by their family? Why was she walking alone on the street wearing such ill-fitting clothes, and treating the steamed buns in her bag like treasures?
Lu Qingyan took a few steps back warily, looking at him with a defensive expression. After hesitating for a moment, she still said, "My name is Lu Qingyan."
Rong Xu smiled and said, "Although the name doesn't have any profound meaning, it sounds nice for a girl. Why are you here alone? Shall I take you home?"
Lu Qingyan dared not speak.
Having finally escaped, why would I want to go back to that house?
Rong Xu glanced at the time, then smiled and said, "If you don't say anything, I'll take you to the police station. Do you know where you live?"
In her haste, Lu Qingyan told a lie: "My home is right here. I just went out to buy some steamed buns and I'm heading back now. You don't need to see me off."
Seeing how strongly Lu Qingyan resisted, Rong Xu had no choice but to give up the idea.
"Okay, remember to come home early." He said this before getting into the car. Lu Qingyan watched the car drive away, a hint of envy flashing in her eyes.
If I had my own car, wouldn't I be able to drive faster and definitely wouldn't get caught?
She could use the money to take a bus, but she didn't know where she was going, so she was too afraid to get on.
She walked step by step in one direction. As dawn broke, the city became bustling again. Although Lu Qingyan had walked quite far, she could still hear some sounds.
Looking at the flat road in front of her, she felt both afraid and determined.
She squatted down, took a steamed bun from her bag, carefully broke it open, and put it in her mouth. The white bun had a sweet taste in her mouth, which made her very happy.
After finishing the steamed bun, she dared not eat any more and continued walking forward. The sight of a small child walking alone on the empty road seemed rather strange.
A large truck stopped, and the driver walked up to Lu Qingyan: "Little girl, why are you alone?"
The little girl was quite cute, but a bit thin, which reminded the honest driver of his own daughter of the same age, and his heart softened a little.
"I..." Lu Qingyan didn't dare to say that she had escaped, afraid that someone would send her back.
Are you alone?
Lu Qingyan nodded, then shook her head.
"Never mind," the driver said helplessly, "Where are you going? I'll give you a ride."
“Go north.” Lu Qingyan said clearly. She remembered that when she was at home, she had heard Hu’s mother say, “Our house is not small in the south, but if we go to the north, we can’t even buy a small room.”
At that time, Hu's father said, "Why are you thinking so much? The north is far away from here, and we may never go there in our lifetime."
At that time, Lu Qingyan remembered that if she went to the north, they would never find her, because they would never go to that place.
The driver chuckled upon hearing Lu Qingyan's reply, "That's perfect. I'm heading north too. Just let me know when you get there, and I'll drop you off."
Lu Qingyan listened and nodded obediently.
