Chapter 167: Passerby in the Western Fantasy Adventure 16
Sunset City, located near the Sunset Mountains, is a small city on the border of the Uncas Empire. It is quite popular because every year there are caravans and mercenary groups coming to the Sunset Mountains to search for monsters and magic plants.
The mixed population also leads to poor public security here.
Cathy, wearing a veil, looked curiously at the crowded shops on both sides of the market.
"What do you want to buy?" Ivis turned to look at her.
A big storm is about to come in the extreme wilderness, and the sandstorm will block the Anga Canyon. Abner made a long list and asked his two sons to buy some things, which can be regarded as a kind of exercise for them.
The items on the list had been purchased, and as it was still early, Cathy excitedly suggested going to the market.
"Hmm. I don't know either." She said nonchalantly. Girls don't have any clear purpose when they go shopping. The process of walking around and looking around is a kind of enjoyment in itself.
However, since it is a market, there should be a lot of local snacks.
She walked into a small bakery. There were many customers inside, including housewives wearing dark floral dresses. Cathy could hardly understand their strong country accents. She had no choice but to follow the crowd and pick a few of the most popular breads in the store, then squeezed out of the crowd.
Ivis was standing at the door of the store with his arms folded, waiting for her, and he had no intention of going in.
"This bread is so cheap. One piece of bread is bigger than my face, and three pieces are only 15 copper coins." Cathy finally understood why the teacher asked them to take a small bag of copper coins with them before going out.
The girl's palm-sized face appeared in Ivis' mind. Yes, it was true. He nodded silently in his heart.
"This store is small and simple, and most of the customers are ordinary people. I don't think the food inside will suit your taste." After seeing the girl take a bite, he reminded her lightly.
Cathy frowned and swallowed the bread with difficulty, even feeling a slight pain in her throat.
"What kind of bread is this? It actually contains bran?"
Ivis: "Food for ordinary people has always been like this. It is already difficult to fill your stomach, so taste is naturally not a consideration."
"What should we do with these?" Cathy looked at the three large pieces of bread in the basket and felt a little worried.
"Weren't there a lot of beggars and scavengers at the gate when we just entered the city? We can just give it to them when the time comes." Ivis naturally took the girl's hand. It's not that safe here.
With a solution in mind, Cathy's frown immediately relaxed. She put her basket into her space belt and continued shopping.
Ivis glanced around with a cold face and immediately avoided the hidden gazes in the crowd. Hiss, this frail pretty boy looked like a tough guy.
"There's a dessert shop up ahead!" Cathy looked at Ivis expectantly. How about it? Can she go in?
"It looks OK, let's go in."
As Ivis spoke, he walked ahead, and Cathy, who was being pulled forward, noticed that the two were holding hands.
Meow meow meow???
What's going on? She narrowed her eyes, and her ripple-like pupils suddenly showed a hint of confusion. Doesn't this person have a germaphobia? Could it be that...
Stop, stop, one of the three greatest illusions in life, he likes me.
Cathy glanced at Ivis's calm face. Maybe he just held her because he was afraid she would get lost?
Well, it’s more important to go to a dessert shop.
Ivis breathed a sigh of relief. The palm of his left hand was sweaty, so he quietly wiped it on his robe when no one was paying attention.
The shop owner saw that the two customers who came in had extraordinary demeanor and hurriedly came forward to greet them: "What would you like to buy?"
Cathy was attracted by the jars of red jam on the shelf: "Owner, what is this? Can I try it?"
"Sure, sure." The owner brought out a small white bowl from under the counter and poured some jam from the opened bottle next to it into the bowl. A sweet fragrance instantly spread.
To go with the jam, the owner brought out a small plate of biscuits and white bread from the counter.
Cathy took a bite first, then spread the jam evenly on the biscuits and bread. It tasted very good. After she stuffed a few bites into Ivis's mouth and got the reply of "not bad", she bought 10 bottles of jam at once, and also bought some biscuits and white bread.
In addition, the various preserved fruits in the store tasted unique, so she bought a bag of them.
There are many small stalls lined up on both sides of the market, and the vendors' enthusiastic calls echo in the streets.
"Flowers for sale. Fresh laurel, rose, golden camellia, hibiscus..."
"Would you like to try some freshly made naan, sir?"
"Honey, sweet honey, 25 copper coins a jar!"
…………
Cathy stopped at the flower stall. The stall owner was a little girl of about twelve or thirteen years old. Seeing a customer coming, she quickly smiled and said to Ivis who was following behind her: "Brother, do you want to give this beautiful lady a bouquet of flowers? The flowers here are very fresh. They were just picked from the flowerbed this morning."
Cathy: Eh? Eh? Eh?
Did the little girl misunderstand something?
She looked a little embarrassed and couldn't help but feel lucky that she was wearing a veil so that others couldn't see her expression at that moment.
"Give her a bunch of laurel." A hint of smile escaped from Ivis's cold eyes, "and make her a wreath."
"Okay." The vendor responded enthusiastically. She picked out 16 of the most blooming laurel flowers from the basket full of flowers, wrapped them in colorful paper and tied them with pink ribbons.
Cathy took the bouquet of laurel flowers with tears in her eyes. If I remember correctly, in this world, roses seem to symbolize sweet and beautiful love, and are usually used as bouquets for lovers' weddings.
Ivis took the woven rose wreath, and the blue ribbons interspersed in between added a touch of vitality.
He untied the veil, put the wreath on Cathy's head, carefully adjusted the position, and then nodded with satisfaction.
The pink flower crown worn between her red hair made the girl look much softer, and the green ribbon hanging from her hair made her skin look as white as snow.
"You have good taste. This flower crown is perfect for this lady. You two look like a perfect couple." The girl selling flowers complimented sincerely, "It's 2 silver coins and 20 copper coins in total. You only need to pay 2 silver coins."
Ivis curled his lips and gave the sweet-talking stall owner three silver coins.
Then he patted the stunned little girl and said, "Should we find a hotel in the city to stay for one night and then go back tomorrow morning?"
Huh?
Cathy glanced at Ivis's stern face suspiciously. Was the bouquet he chose really an accidental act?
Boom, boom, boom, Ivis' heartbeat began to get out of control again. He silently mobilized the ice element in his body to cool himself down. The chill that penetrated his heart barely suppressed his gradually rising body temperature.
Fortunately, he is an ice mage!
After looking around for a long time, Cathy didn't find anything unusual, so she followed Ivis silently with a large bunch of light yellow laurel. The rich and unique fragrance lingering around her nose left a trace in her heart.
The wind suddenly rises, rippling the pool of spring water.
The setting sun melted gold, and the mercenaries outside the city returned in twos and threes. Lights were lit one after another in front of the taverns in the alleys in the west of the city.
Ivis stood beside Cathy with a frown on his face, shielding her from those lewd glances. He threw a gold coin at the counter and booked a suite.
People are evil, and he was worried about the little girl staying alone in a room.
