Chapter 5 The Middle-Aged Emperor Without Children

She has not yet given birth to a child for her second brother and wants to do better so that others will not think that she is unworthy of marrying into the Xu family.

Xu Lingyi knew that she was a good person, but she had a soft personality and was even a little easily bullied.

Fortunately, my mother is not an evil mother-in-law, and my sister-in-law is not a difficult or bad sister-in-law.

"I won't go with you. You insisted on coming to such a far temple. I'm tired even if you're not."

"That can't be helped. We've already come here. It's precisely because the journey is long and there are many stone steps that our sincerity can be shown."

"You're the only one who can say that." The third sister-in-law gave her a sidelong glance, but still came over, took Xu Lingyi's hand, and the two of them climbed up the stone stairs hand in hand.

"Yesterday, the third sister came to ask about Yi'er's marriage. She was worried that Yi'er would marry far away and the two of them would not be able to play together in the future."

The sister-in-law looked at their backs with a smile.

Madam Xu sighed, "They're both just children at heart. Two simpletons, that's why they have such a good relationship."

The eldest sister-in-law smiled silently. Only Madam Xu dared to say this. If others said something bad about Yier, Madam Xu, who was such a gentle person, would go up and argue with her.

This has happened before.

"They are all kind-hearted," said the eldest sister-in-law.

It took Xu Lingyi and the others another hour to finally reach Lingguang Temple.

After coming up, I found that there were not so many people in this temple. It might be because the temple is too high and the distance is far.

This was their first time to this temple. To be fair, if it wasn't for the purpose of waiting for something to happen, Xu Lingyi would not have come a second time.

But when they actually walked in, they found that there were actually quite a few people.

Xu Lingyi was a little confused, but her doubts were soon resolved.

She discovered that this temple might actually have some special powers.

"How is my son's marriage?" asked Mrs. Xu.

"Maybe it's too expensive to be worth anything, or maybe I'll die without a complete body."

Mrs. Xu's face changed.

The phrase "died without an intact body" is too strong, and Mrs. Xu has always believed in Buddhism.

It was a rare moment for her to lose her composure, so she hurriedly asked, "Master, is there any way to resolve this?"

The host shook his head: "Marriage is a matter of fate, and it is unpredictable. I have no way to resolve it."

Mrs. Xu was stunned.

After they came out, the third sister-in-law was very angry.

"Mother, Yi'er, don't take the old monk's words to heart. I think he was just making them up on purpose. As we walked over, he would have seen that our family is either rich or noble. Since Yi'er comes from an extraordinary family, it's natural that she is extremely noble. I can also make up this sentence, as for the second one."

"He must be saying this on purpose to scare us and get us to donate more money. He's probably used this trick countless times before. How can we believe him?"

Xu Lingyi shook her head. Hadn't she died without a complete body in her previous life? This old monk might really be quite capable. Xu Lingyi wanted to find a chance to ask him about it.

"But if it was about money, when we tried to resolve it just now, he just shook his head and refused, and left without saying a word. Moreover..."

Mrs. Xu was worried, with a sad look on her face.

"I've heard of the abbot of Lingguang Temple. He's quite a deity in the capital. Madam Wang told me about him a while ago, saying he's a true master who knows everything. She told me that if I come to worship Buddha, I must come to Lingguang Temple."

In fact, more than one person told her this, and this was one of the reasons why Mrs. Xu was willing to come to the farther Lingguang Temple.

But now, hearing the master say this, Mrs. Xu felt depressed.

The couple never wanted their daughter to be extremely noble or to climb up the social ladder. They just wanted her to live a peaceful and smooth life, find an ordinary man, and spend the rest of her life in peace and stability.
