Chapter 1 Going Up the Mountain to Become an Immortal on the Wedding Day

On the tree-lined path.

A group of people, playing instruments and singing, were joyfully and lively as they carried the bridal sedan chair on their way.

Occasionally, a pedestrian or farmer dressed in coarse blue clothes would stop to watch the excitement and see what was new.

Judging from the procession, it wasn't particularly grand, and the fact that the bridal sedan chair was carried by two people indicated that the husband's family wasn't well-off.

Suddenly, the man carrying the sedan chair in front let out a howl, and the man behind him also started howling. The two of them howled to an unknown tune and, to the rhythm, began to shake the sedan chair violently in a perverse manner.

The reason was simple: he just wanted to flirt with the bride.

Who told her husband's family to be so stingy and fail to make proper arrangements? They can't blame them for making things difficult for the bride.

The two sang with increasing enthusiasm, and the rest of the group joined in, playing instruments and singing along with their rhythm.

It was as if this wasn't a prank, but a unique wedding ceremony in their area.

Passersby shook their heads when they saw this.

In such cases, either the groom's family is trying to intimidate the bride, or the family is genuinely poor and hasn't made proper arrangements.

I thought the naive village girl in the sedan chair would cry, beg for mercy, and plead with them to stop.

They would then refute it with their own set of arguments, and shake their heads even more vigorously.

The louder the bride cried, the more excited they became.

But the sedan chair remained completely quiet, without making a sound.

If it weren't for the fact that the sedan chair they were carrying was quite heavy, one would have thought there was no one inside.

That's really strange.

The fact that she can keep things calm shows that this bride is quite special.

They stubbornly continued swaying and howling, and after an unknown amount of time, the world gradually darkened, and dark clouds unknowingly filled the sky.

Suddenly, a strong wind arose.

This disrupted the group's wedding procession.

"Strange...strange...monster!" The matchmaker pointed at the monster with two large lanterns shining in the mist ahead, her face filled with terror.

Everyone immediately abandoned the sedan chair and their belongings and ran.

"roar!"

With a roar, the monster leaped into the air.

They tortured them as if it were child's play, slapping them away with one hand and sending them flying far away. Several slaps sent them all back to the side of the sedan chair, making them scream in pain and temporarily incapacitated.

Realizing what had happened, and terrified, it immediately knelt down, kowtowed, and begged for mercy, hoping to escape its fate of being eaten.

The monster approached with the pace of a devil, taking one or two steps closer. It seemed it had no intention of letting them go.

Its enormous, ugly, and ferocious appearance is so striking that it creates an extreme visual impact.

Some were trembling and had already urinated, while others fainted from the immense psychological pressure.

Just as the monster opened its blood-red maw and everyone was filled with despair, a sudden change occurred.

Then, the bridal sedan chair beside them began to glow faintly, and with a bang, it shattered into pieces.

"You audacious demon, I am here! Do not bring disaster upon the mortal realm!"

The clear, cool female voice was like the voice of the Great Way, bringing people a ray of hope.

A red figure leaped into the air, forming a hand seal, and a visible white light shot towards the monster.

The monster, which had been about to devour people just a second ago, was suddenly terrified and retreated step by step. Finally, it could not withstand the explosion and burst into flames, disappearing into thin air.

At this moment, the gale suddenly stopped, the dark clouds in the sky dispersed, and a ray of golden light shone down, illuminating the girl in the bright red dress, giving her a dreamlike and ethereal feeling.

They all heard what the girl just said. This immortal? My goodness, this is an immortal!

Everyone immediately knelt before the immortal, filled with trepidation and trembling with fear.

"Thank you, immortal! Thank you so much for saving my life!"

"Many thanks to the immortal for vanquishing the demon and eliminating the scourge for the people!"

"Waaah... I am guilty! I did not know that there was an immortal in the sedan chair. I beg the immortal to forgive me!"

Having witnessed the immortals vanquishing demons with their own eyes, how could they dare to doubt that the person before them was not an immortal?

Even if they aren't immortals, having this ability makes them no different from immortals; they are beings that ordinary people like them can't afford to offend.

This world is mostly feudal and superstitious. Weak mortals yearn for strange and supernatural forces, but they are even more afraid of them.

What they had just witnessed was beyond their comprehension, and they were so frightened that they lost their ability to think.

The girl in red gave them a cold look. As her gaze swept over them, everyone shivered, lowered their heads even further, and begged for mercy.

I bumped my forehead and it bled, but I didn't feel any pain.

Before immortals, weak mortals are like ants; how could they dare to have any thoughts of resistance?

Please always believe in the reverence that a foolish feudal era held for supernatural forces and strange phenomena.

Yu Shuang ignored them and gazed leisurely at the distant mountains, letting out a soft sigh.

"Although I have awakened my memories, I am still a mortal and need to start cultivating again. I will now head up the mountain."

When you're out in the world, you give yourself your own identity.

She was very satisfied with the result. She had directed and acted in a great show, not only teaching people a lesson but also earning their gratitude for saving her life and sparing her life.

She dropped her illusion, and the next moment, she was nowhere to be seen.

After the immortal left, the group felt a sense of relief and joy, and knelt down to bow in reverence towards the depths of the distant mountains.

The immortal is a woman, so she'll most likely be visiting the Ziyun Temple over there. I'll have to tell my wife to go and burn incense there more often.

They didn't know before, but now they do—there are real immortals there.

When they came to their senses, they were in a bit of a predicament.

The sedan chair is gone and they have to buy a new one, but the bride is gone too. How are they going to explain this? They've already taken the money, so they can't ask for a refund.

A group of people, supporting each other, limped away from this place of trouble.

Meanwhile, several miles away, Yu Shuang had exhausted all her accumulated strength and was sitting by a mountain stream meditating to regulate her breathing.
