"It's okay." Shen Shuyi thought about modifying the bicycle later, at least adding a soft pad.
Yan Zheng could sense that she was uncomfortable, so he tried to ride the bicycle on a flatter road.
A gentle breeze blew by, and Shen Shuyi felt relaxed as she saw the brightly blooming wildflowers by the roadside.
"Shuyi, we'll reach the seaside after this stretch of road, but it's a bit bumpy, so hold on tight." No matter how good Yan Zheng's cycling skills were, the bicycle still bounced around.
Afraid of falling, Shen Shuyi simply hugged Yan Zheng's waist and pressed herself against his back.
Yan Zheng felt the softness, gripped the handlebars tightly with both hands, his whole body tensed, and sweat beaded on his forehead.
Shen Shuyi was holding him comfortably, ignoring the bumpy ride.
The man she was embracing was on leave today and wasn't wearing his military uniform, only a thin white shirt that revealed his taut muscle lines.
Yan Zheng straightened his back. "Shuyi, don't hug too tightly."
He was almost out of breath.
The man's gaze fell on the small hand in front of him, and his Adam's apple bobbed.
Because she leaned forward and hugged him, her front pressed against his back, Yan Zheng could clearly feel that soft mass...
But the person behind him had no idea; they only loosened their grip slightly, but their front was still pressed tightly together.
He didn't want to give him a hint...
If you remind him, wouldn't he be acting like a hooligan?
Yan Zheng had no choice but to ride faster. Along the way, many people from the family compound saw them going out and couldn't help but mention them when they stood under the banyan tree to cool off.
"Oh my, isn't that Commander Yan?"
"Is that the girl on the back of the bicycle his girlfriend? She's wearing a skirt, like a pampered young lady, with such a fair complexion."
"She's not a pampered young lady. I heard she's from the city, as beautiful as a flower. No wonder Commander Yan wants to get married."
"What's the use of being pretty? Marriage means living together. Look at Commander Yan, he gets his meals from the canteen and eats them at home every day. Is that reasonable?"
"Now that you mention it, Commander Yan has really married a patriarch to worship at home. He comes to the family compound but doesn't go to the factory to work, and he doesn't even cook a meal at home."
"Does she look like she'd do any work? She doesn't go out all day, and probably sleeps until lunchtime before getting up."
Chen Lian, the neighbor, couldn't stand it anymore and said sarcastically, "Hey, even I, as the neighbor, don't know what time other people get up. How did you find out after living several blocks away? I thought you went there specifically to eavesdrop on other people's conversations."
Lin Chan chimed in, "Even if someone sleeps until noon, it's because Commander Yan dotes on his wife."
Most people just watch the show and talk about it without any real need to argue. They might say something like, "Hey, I never realized Commander Yan was such a doting husband. I don't want to work either, but I guess I'm just not that lucky."
Wang Wen overheard these words. She hadn't given up on Yan Zheng yet, and she heard that they hadn't gotten their marriage certificate, so there was still room for things to turn around.
So she brought over the prepared food. She had heard that the woman from the city couldn't cook, so she decided to use her excellent cooking skills to win over Yan Zheng's stomach and show him who he could live a good life with!
Unexpectedly, Yan Zheng took that woman out for a ride on his bicycle!
Wang Wen gritted her teeth; she was determined to see what that woman really looked like today!
After making some inquiries, Wang Wen learned that they had gone to the beach, so she dragged Xiao Shu along with them.
Xiao Shuzheng was on a date with Li Donghai, so the three of them went to the beach together.
Meanwhile, Yan Zheng parked his bicycle and he and Shen Shuyi walked along the path toward the sea.
Shen Shuyi held a small bunch of wildflowers in her hand. She lowered her head and sniffed them. "They smell so good. I don't know what they are."
The tiny, purple flower buds are especially delicate and lovely.
Yan Zheng smiled slightly, "They're all over the country lanes."
"Let's go, I'll take you to pick coconuts."
“Great!” In Shanghai, the original owner knew that fruits like coconuts, which are unique to the south, could only be bought in state-run fruit stores or special supply points.
Fresh coconuts are even rarer.
So when Yan Zheng poked a hole in the top of the coconut with a knife and inserted a bamboo tube for her to drink the sweet coconut water, she was so happy that her eyes narrowed.
"Wow, this tastes so good!"
The coconut juice is sweet and has a rich coconut aroma.
Shen Shuyi pushed the drink towards Yan Zheng, "Brother Yan, you should drink too."
There were many people on the beach digging for crabs and collecting various shellfish, while others, like Shen Shuyi and Yan Zheng, were strolling along the beach enjoying a moment of leisure.
Yan Zheng declined, saying, "You drink it."
He had lived on Hainan Island for a long time, so coconuts were nothing new to him.
The main concern is that if he were to share a bamboo tube with Shuyi, he might develop romantic feelings for her.
Shen Shuyi couldn't drink any more after drinking half of it, so she stuffed it into Yan Zheng's arms, saying, "Don't waste it."
"Don't throw it away after you finish drinking it! Take it home and crack out the coconut meat. I heard that there's a local tradition of cooking chicken in coconut water. I'll put the coconut meat in and see if it tastes good!"
She spoke with great enthusiasm, saying that the food here was rather bland, and she really wanted to drink coconut chicken soup.
Yan Zheng: "Yeah, we'll buy a few more to take with us when we get back."
Shen Shuyi walked on the beach in sandals, the seawater soaking her ankles—it felt so refreshing.
Seeing that Yan Zheng was watching her play in the water like she was a child, she blushed with embarrassment and annoyance, bent down and splashed him with a handful of water.
"Hey, you're not allowed to look at me."
The first time Yan Zheng saw her angry, her delicate nose slightly furrowed, she looked even more lively and beautiful.
"I told you not to look, but you still did." Shen Shuyi scooped up water and splashed it on him, but the man didn't dodge.
"Okay, I won't look." Yan Zheng looked away, turned his back, and his smile grew wider.
This scene caught the attention of Wang Wen and her two companions who rushed over. Wang Wen frowned as she looked the girl playing in the water up and down.
