Chapter 4: She thrives in Kyoto (Part 4)
When everyone in the room heard what Hu Xiaomeng said, their reactions were different.
"Sister, it's her loss if she doesn't want you. You still have us. We will all treat you well."
Wenrou knew about her sister's biological mother at a very young age. She had no good impression of that woman and held her sister's hand to give her strength.
"I know. In fact, I had forgotten her a long time ago, if Dad hadn't told me that I had a serious illness shortly after I was born, and that I recovered after wearing these bracelets.
These bracelets will help me grow up healthy, and I won’t wear them anymore.”
Hu Xiaomeng nodded to Wenrou. She would not feel sad for a woman like Jiang Mei.
Grandma Chen and Chen Hua felt very sympathetic when they heard Wen Nuan, but this kind of thing does happen frequently in this day and age.
Some people got married when they went to the countryside as educated youth, and later lost contact with the countryside after returning to the city.
The poor child was abandoned like this and became a motherless child.
"What? Your biological mother left you for me? She abandoned you shortly after giving birth to you? What year were you born?"
Jiang Lei couldn't believe what he heard. He knew that his aunt had always been selfish.
But I didn't expect her to be so selfish that she didn't even mention that she had given birth to a daughter and ignored her for so many years.
"Comrade Jiang, were you conducting a household registration survey in 1967? Why are you asking these questions?"
After answering truthfully, Hu Xiaomeng looked at him puzzledly. If she hadn't just said that she had long forgotten the original owner's biological mother, she would have wanted to directly say Jiang Mei's name.
Jiang Lei heard Wen Nuan say that she was born in 1967, and that his aunt went to the countryside as an educated youth in 1965 and was also from a village in the town of his good friend.
The age matches her, and she probably looks like her grandmother. She also has bracelets on her hands, so this person is most likely her cousin.
"I... I don't know how to say this without scaring you! Please sit here for a moment. I need to call home to clarify some things.
Excuse me, what's your last name?"
Jiang Lei didn't expect that he had a cousin in this world. He looked at her with some excitement and nervousness.
However, since he had not asked his family where his aunt had worked as an educated youth, he did not dare to say that she was his cousin.
"What on earth do you want to do? One moment you ask about my sister's bracelet, the next you ask her when she was born, and now you want to know her last name.
Sister, this person is very likely a liar, you must not tell him our last name is Wen."
He spoke the last words gently and in a low voice to his sister.
However, Jiang Lei grew up in a military compound and attended a national defense school, so his reconnaissance and listening skills were much better than others. He heard that his cousin's last name should be "Wen".
"Comrades, I really mean no harm. Huazi, could you please lend me your landline so I can make a call? I have something to ask my dad."
Seeing how cute his cousin's sister was, Jiang Lei smiled silently and pointed to the landline phone in the living room.
"Feel free to use it. Don't be polite. At worst, I can ask you to reimburse the phone bill."
Chen Hua and Jiang Lei have known each other for several years and have a good relationship, so he started joking with him.
"Hey, Dad, are you still at work? Is there anyone else with you?"
After bumping fists with his good brother, Jiang Lei called his father's office.
"No, if you have anything to say, just tell me. You are at your classmate's house now, right? Come back to Kyoto before the New Year."
Jiang Zhen was a little surprised when he received the call from his son. He didn't expect that his son would call him while he was playing with his classmates.
"Dad, I want to ask which village my aunt went to when she was sent to the countryside as an educated youth? Do you still remember it?"
The phone bill was quite expensive, so Jiang Lei quickly got to the point.
"It seems to be called Wenjia Village. Because your grandfather was angry with your aunt at the time, he didn't allow your two uncles and me to visit her. I haven't been there specifically."
Jiang Zhen felt a headache when he thought of his willful little sister. She was really spoiled since she was a child.
"Dad, there's one thing I haven't dared to tell Grandpa yet because I'm worried he won't be able to handle it. I'm afraid you have to come to Wenjia Village quickly.
I met a 19-year-old girl here in Huazi. She looks very much like my grandmother, and the pair of bracelets she wears on her hands are the ones her aunt wore when she went to the countryside.
More importantly, the girl's mother was from Kyoto. Shortly after giving birth to her, she left a pair of bracelets for her and returned to Kyoto to enjoy her life, abandoning her and her father.
Jiang Lei became more and more excited as he spoke, and at the end he almost shouted everything he said.
Everyone in the living room was petrified, and their eyes turned to Hu Xiaomeng at the same time, leaving her with nothing but a shocked expression, covering her mouth.
Jiang Zhen on the other end of the phone couldn't believe what he heard, but he knew very well that his son would not joke about such things, so he told his son a few words on the phone to contact his other two brothers immediately.
Jiang Lei put the phone down and turned around slowly. He felt so distressed when he saw his cousin sitting there quietly like a puppet.
The shoes she was wearing were badly damaged. Her clothes, although clean and tidy, were quite faded, and her sweater was pilling.
"You...I...how is it possible? If I remember correctly, my father said my biological mother's name is Jiang Mei.
I begged him to tell me this name, and he always told me not to hate her.
She said he was too poor and incompetent to give her a good life, so she just returned to her original life trajectory.
Thinking of the original owner's honest father, Hu Xiaomeng really shed tears as she spoke. She really sympathized with this good man.
This world is so strange. Often good men can’t meet good women, and good women can’t meet good men.
"My aunt is called Jiang Mei, and she's a real piece of shit."
After hearing what his cousin said, Jiang Lei couldn't help but feel sorry for this uncle whom he had never met.
No one in the room expected things to turn out like this. In the end, Jiang Lei bought a lot of things and sent Hu Xiaomeng and the others back to Wenjia Village, where he explained the whole story to the two elders.
"Nuannuan, if it is truly confirmed that Commander Jiang's daughter is your biological mother, whether you want to acknowledge the Jiang family or not, Dad will support your decision."
After Wen Bin saw Jiang Lei's portrait of his aunt, what else was there that he didn't understand? It was the woman he had been with in the past.
No wonder she left without saying a word. How could the life in Wenjia Village keep a young lady from a noble family?
"Dad, let's wait until we confirm whether Jiang Mei and I are mother and daughter. Now I'll treat your leg first."
He must admit it, otherwise how could he go to Kyoto to seek revenge on Jiang Mei and Zhou Linlin.
Hu Xiaomeng didn't want to pay attention to the two disgusting women for the time being, and used the medical skills provided by the system to help Wen Bin heal the lame leg caused by being shot on the battlefield.
