Chapter 168 Imperial Power, A Female Emperor [7]

"Your idea is a little different from mine."

After regaining his senses, Rong Ling stared at Shang Xian's slightly blurry face; the moonlight was still too dim.

Moreover, this was his first formal meeting with Ning Jiu'er. Was she really that outgoing? Or was it that by building a good relationship with him, he would keep her secret?

"I must not be some particularly well-behaved young lady from a prominent family to be able to cause such a scene at the Prime Minister's residence for so long," Shang Xian shrugged.

Rong Ling actually nodded in agreement, then shook his head and said, "You're too bold, daring to sneak out of the palace with other men!"

"What other men? Where are there any men?" Shang Xian looked around, then fixed his gaze on Rong Ling, a wicked smile playing on his lips. "There aren't any other men, but do you count?"

"..." Rong Ling's mouth dropped open. Had he jumped into a pit himself?

He pointed at Shang Xian: "You!"

"Hey, young marquis, don't be like that. We're in the same boat now. If you dare to say it, I dare to say it too. Anyway, if my reputation gets bad, you'll be in trouble too, so..." Shang Xian raised his hand and slapped Rong Ling's shoulder hard.

"You're really going too far, girl," Rong Ling said, speechless.

"But who is that man? Since we can threaten each other now," he just wanted to know who the man was. He had never seen him in Kyoto before, and he didn't seem like an ordinary person.

"I'll tell you in secret," Shang Xian beckoned to her, and Rong Ling leaned in to listen.

"He's my lover," Shang Xian said, then burst out laughing, quite loudly.

Rong Ling remained indifferent, while Shen Yi, perched on the roof, smiled.

"Are you serious?" Rong Ling asked, frowning.

"Of course it's fake, you idiot," Shang Xian said, humming a tune as she walked away down the narrow alley with her hands behind her back. Rong Ling ran after her.

"Don't walk so openly! It would be bad if someone saw you!" Rong Ling was worried for her.

Shang Xian tilted his head and asked, "How many people know me?"

Upon hearing this, Rong Ling immediately realized that even the Emperor had probably forgotten what she looked like.

"You must return to the palace now, or the Emperor will be returning soon!" This greatly worried Rong Ling.

"I'm not in a hurry, why are you?" Shang Xian continued humming a song as she walked forward.

"We clicked so well, I wish I had known you sooner," Rong Ling said, rolling her eyes at her.

"From now on, we're good friends. If anything happens, I..." Shang Xian thought for a moment before saying, "Never mind, you'll have to protect me."

Rong Ling: "..."

What is this Ning Jiu'er?

"Want to eat? Are you hungry? My treat," Shang Xian said, then realized he hadn't brought any money. "Why don't you treat me? I don't have the money with me."

Rong Ling looked at her empty hands and couldn't help but laugh and cry: "Did that man pay for you?"

"Of course, I never go out, so I don't even know what paying means."

Rong Ling: "..." My worldview has collapsed.

He took a deep breath: "Let's go."

I entered a tavern, and although it was already night, some taverns were still open.

Shang Xian sat opposite him, and Rong Ling was completely shocked when he saw her face, remaining stunned for a long time.

"You've become so handsome in the last two years?" Rong Ling asked with a smile.

Shang Xian joked, "Regretting not seeing me sooner?"

Rong Ling nodded without hesitation.

Shang Xian propped her head up with her hand, rubbing the rim of the porcelain cup with the pad of her other hand. She said regretfully, "If I had known I was going to get married, I would have preferred to marry someone like you. Why bother going to the palace?"
