Chapter 83 My Sick Wife: Saving Her Life is Paramount [3]

While he was still in a daze, Shang Xian continued, "This Chinese medicine is green when it's first brewed, it's quite frightening..."

Her voice trembled more and more as she spoke. Ning Beiyao looked at the brown medicine in the bowl. Was it green?

Thinking of this, he tasted a spoonful of the Chinese medicine himself. That tiny spoonful almost took him away from this beautiful world.

This is supposed to be medicine? This is clearly poison!

Ning Beiyao disdainfully set the bowl aside, hugged Shang Xian in his arms, gently patted her back, and comforted her, "We'll go to the hospital to change the medicine. We won't take this one anymore, okay..."

Shang Xian breathed a sigh of relief; thankfully she hadn't drunk it, or she would have died.

She leaned on Ning Beiyao's shoulder without saying a word.

Suddenly, Ning Beiyao's phone rang. He placed Shang Xian on the rocking chair and said, "Excuse me, I need to take this call."

This polite remark convinced Shang Xian that Ning Beiyao and Ji Yi had no feelings for each other.

Have you ever seen a husband speak to his wife so politely?

However, I just happened to see the contact name on Ning Beiyao's phone screen, which should be Tang Dongyu.

Ning Beiyao answered the phone, and Tang Dongyu on the other end said, "Come out for drinks tonight. Chen and his wife had a fight, and Chen asked us to be peacemakers. He's just too proud to admit it. Remember to come tonight."

Ning Beiyao glanced at Ji Yi, then replied to Tang Dongyu on the phone, "I have something to do tonight."

Tang Dongyu laughed loudly: "Yao, what brings you tonight?"

The three of them hang out together, and everyone knows about their romantic relationships.

Ning Beiyao said calmly, "Go to the hospital."

Now Tang Dongyu knew that it was because Ji Yi was unwell.

"Didn't you just come back from the hospital a few days ago? Why are you back at the hospital today?"

"The medicine you brewed is faulty, it's like poison. Go to the hospital and get a new one." Thinking of the medicine he just drank, Ning Beiyao felt a pang of regret. Was it meant for human consumption?

Tang Dongyu's eyes darted around, and he let out a sly laugh: "Then why don't you bring your wife tonight? We haven't met her yet, so it's a good idea for us to come together."

Fearing Ning Beiyao might disagree, he continued, "If your mysterious wife comes, Lin Nuoer will agree to come with Chen. She's always been curious about what your wife looks like."

Ning Beiyao finally agreed. It was really tough on them, as brothers, to have to mediate the conflict between Xi Chen and Lin Nuo'er.

After hanging up the phone, he walked towards Shang Xian, slowly squatted down in front of her, and took her cold hand in his: "After we go to the hospital, come with me to meet some friends, okay?"

Shang Xian nodded, then shook her head: "I get sleepy at night."

"It's alright, we're all family. I'll be here if you fall asleep." Ning Beiyao's gentleness was beyond her imagination.

She nodded in compromise.

Ning Beiyao picked her up in his arms, feeling a pang of heartache: "You've lost weight again. It would be so nice if you could gain some weight."

Shang Xian wrapped her arms around his neck and, in her usual nonchalant tone, mimicked Ji Yifeng's, saying, "They watch me drink my medicine every day, saying they'll suffer if I don't, but every time I drink it, I don't want to eat all day, and sometimes I even vomit."

She lowered her eyes, her long, thick eyelashes trembling slightly, making her look endearing.

Ning Beiyao finally understood why she was acting strangely today; she really couldn't stand the Chinese medicine anymore, which was why she was talking to him more.

To be honest, his own sense of guilt deepened a little.
