Chapter 474: The Dark Moonlight Ex-wife of the Number One Scholar 42

As soon as Shen Xinran finished breakfast, Tang Yan came over. She looked at Shen Xinran, wanting to say something but stopping herself.

But Shen Xinran knew what Tang Yan wanted to say. She handed Tang Yan an envelope and said with a smile, "We'll leave our shop to you for now. This is a new recipe I came up with last night. Try it. I'll write to you when I have a new idea."

A grateful smile immediately appeared on Tang Yan's face. "Hehe, I knew you were the best."

After saying this, she put the recipe away as if it were a treasure. "Don't worry, I will work hard to run the shop and open it beyond Canglan and all over the country."

When Shen Xinran heard Tang Yan's enthusiastic words, she couldn't help but sigh: Tang Yan is so rich, yet she still works so hard. If she had as much money as Tang Yan, she would have given up long ago.

Han Ziwen walked over and said to Shen Xinran, "Let's go after we're done packing."

Shen Xinran nodded, then followed Han Ziwen into the carriage.

The carriage started slowly, and the wheels made rhythmic sounds on the bluestone road, but just as it approached the city gate, the carriage suddenly stopped.

Then, a woman's desperate voice rang out from outside the car, "I have a grievance, and I beg the governor to make a decision!"

Shen Xinran lifted the curtain of the carriage and looked outside, only to see a plainly dressed and pretty woman standing in front of the carriage.

The people around began to whisper, "What injustice did she suffer?"

"Who knows? But if you dare to block the way in front of the governor, it must be no small matter."

"Alas, in this world, it's so difficult for ordinary people to seek redress for their grievances."

Shen Xinran looked at Han Ziwen and asked, "Do you want to go down and take a look?"

Han Ziwen shook his head and said, "No need."

After saying this, he ordered the servants outside: "Drag her away."

The guards immediately stepped forward, grabbed the woman's arm, and tried to take her away from the carriage.

The woman struggled desperately, her voice becoming shrill: "Sir Governor, those are thousands of lives at stake. You can't just ignore them."

Han Ziwen frowned when he heard the woman's words. He got off the carriage and told the guards, "Wait a minute."

Shen Xinran followed behind Han Ziwen.

When the woman saw Han Ziwen, she rolled and crawled to his feet and kowtowed continuously. Not long after, her head was broken and the blood dyed the bluestone road red.

Shen Xinran couldn't bear it, so she stepped forward and grabbed the woman, "If you have any grievances, get up first and tell me."

The woman knelt stubbornly on the ground, her voice filled with despair and pleading, "I beg the governor to help me."

Han Ziwen's voice was calm. "If you have a grievance, go to the government office. There are officials there to help you deal with it. Why are you looking for me?"

The woman stared at Han Ziwen intently with a serious expression, "Because they can't handle my grievances."

Han Ziwen frowned, "Then why do you think I will help you?"

The woman smiled miserably. "I don't know either. I can only take a gamble. Just because you built the Canglan Dam and didn't embezzle a single cent, I bet you're a good official."

Han Ziwen nodded and said, "Tell me, what is your grievance?"

The woman stood up and pulled out a jade pendant and a letter written in blood from her bosom. She choked up and said, "This jade pendant can prove my identity, and this letter in blood was written by my father himself. Your Excellency, the Governor, will understand once you see it."

Han Ziwen took the blood letter and began to read it, but as he read deeper, his brows gradually furrowed.

Because the injustice revealed in this blood letter was far more complicated than he had imagined, and the levels involved were far beyond his ability.

After reading it, he was silent for a moment, then slowly handed the blood letter back to the woman, "I can't do this favor."

The woman's emotions instantly collapsed. "I didn't come here today expecting to return alive. I'm giving this to you. Whether you burn it or throw it away, I have no objection."

After she finished speaking, she looked up at the sky, tears streaming down her face. "Father, I'm incompetent and can't help you with your revenge. Please don't blame me. I'm coming to you now."

The woman gave Shen Xinran a miserable smile, then resolutely rushed towards the stone wall at the city gate.

Shen Xinran opened his eyes wide, and almost instinctively, he trotted forward and stood in front of the woman.

The woman was unable to stop in time and bumped directly into Shen Xinran's chest, and they both fell to the cold stone floor.

Shen Xinran clutched his chest, his voice filled with pain, "No, you're serious."

The woman's eyes welled up with tears. "Why did you save me? I've been waiting for ten years. If I can't get revenge, I might as well die."

Chen Xinran patted the woman's shoulder and soothed her softly, "Don't worry. Although the governor says so, he's very soft-hearted. If you say a few more words, maybe he'll agree."

As Shen Xinran spoke, he secretly glanced at Han Ziwen.

Han Ziwen's face remained stern. "I can only promise to deliver this thing to the right place. I can't guarantee anything else."

A glimmer of hope flashed in the woman's eyes, and she nodded quickly, "Thank you, Governor."

Shen Xinran continued to persuade: "You have waited for ten years, so this little while is not a big deal. Don't you want to see your enemy receive the punishment he deserves?"

The woman smiled at Shen Xinran, "I understand, thank you."

Shen Xinran looked at the scar on the woman's forehead and her shortened sleeves and sighed.

She returned to the carriage, took out ten taels of silver from her bag, and handed it to the woman. "Live well, there is nothing you can't overcome."

The woman glanced at Chen Xinran, then at the silver, tears welling up in her eyes once again. In reality, she had just made another gamble. She was betting that Chen Xinran would soften his heart and stop her.

Shen Xinran and Han Ziwen got on the carriage one after another, then sat on the couch and rubbed their chests. The woman's head was really hard and it hurt her so much.

But this also meant that if she hadn't blocked it, the woman would have really crashed to death on the city wall.

Han Ziwen was sitting opposite Shen Xinran. "You are so kind to a stranger, but I don't see you being kind to me."

Shen Xinran glanced at Han Ziwen cautiously, then asked, "Are you angry?"

Han Ziwen sneered, "Why would I be angry? How could I be angry!"

After saying that, he opened the cabinet in the carriage and put the jade pendant and the blood letter inside.

Shen Xinran was curious and asked, "What was written in the letter?"

Han Ziwen glanced at Shen Xinran and sneered, "Aren't you a stone monster? Can't you tell fortunes? Tell it yourself!"

Shen Xinran: “…”

He said he wasn't angry, but he was still pointing at her!
