Chapter 20: A Novel About Educated Youth (Male Second Character) and a Beautiful, Spoiled Village Flower (20)

When Shen arrived at the educated youth settlement, he saw that the courtyard and the surrounding area were packed with people.

The entrance was completely packed with people.

However, when Shen Shi walked over, everyone consciously made way for him.

As the crowd dispersed, Shen Shi understood why everyone had gathered there: there was a car parked in front of the educated youth center.

That's not surprising, since cars are a rare sight for many people. Anyone who gets to ride in a car can brag about it for a lifetime.

But why would a car be parked in front of the former residence of educated youth?

As Shen was wondering, a villager said, "Shen, your grandfather came in a car, how impressive!"

Did his grandfather get it?

That can't be right, he doesn't have one of those at home.

"What are you standing at the door for? Come in now!" This brat is driving this old man crazy.

Upon hearing his grandfather's powerful shout, Shen Shi quickly entered the courtyard.

Seeing the crowd gathered in the courtyard, Chen Shi's grandfather said to the person who came with him, "Little Li, quickly distribute these candies and snacks I bought to the villagers."

After hearing this, Xiao Li distributed the gifts, and his grandfather said to everyone, "Thank you, fellow villagers, for taking care of my grandson. This is just a small token of my appreciation to sweeten your mouths."

Sweets and pastries are precious items that are only available during the Lunar New Year.

The villagers were all smiles, praising Shen Shi as a good child.

After exchanging pleasantries, it was clear that the person showed no sign of leaving.

Shen Shi's grandfather said to Xiao Li, "Thank you for giving this old man a ride. I don't have much to offer you now, but I'll treat you to a nice meal when we get back."

After Xiao Li acknowledged and unloaded a bunch of things and a Phoenix brand bicycle from the car, he drove away.

Everyone was stunned by the scene, but since the car had driven away, they didn't stay any longer.

When things calmed down, the grandfather and grandson finally had some time to chat.

Shen Shi quickly asked, "Grandpa, what brings you here?"

"Nonsense, you're getting married, how could I not come!" Clearly still harboring resentment, the old man's tone was extremely arrogant.

"Yes, yes, yes! I know Grandpa loves me the most," Shen Shi said ingratiatingly.

The old man snorted, meaning it's good that you know.

"What's with that car? Did you strike it rich, Grandpa?"

If you can't be a second-generation rich kid, you can be a third-generation rich kid. You still have to have dreams, what if they come true?

"Yes, I've struck it rich! How else would I buy you a bicycle?" The old man, as always, loved to joke.

"A bicycle is fine too, it's a vehicle anyway."

Since his grandfather had arrived, Shen Shi simply moved into the old landlord's courtyard ahead of schedule.

Having a bicycle made things much more convenient. The grandfather and grandson made two trips back and forth and moved all their belongings into the new house.

There wasn't much furniture in the room, so the two of them tidied up a bit.

"Grandpa, please sit down and have some water! You're so old, and you've come all this way and you've been so busy."

Seeing that the old man couldn't sit still, Shen Shi quickly tried to dissuade him.

The old man didn't force himself to stay awake. Since he didn't have much work to do anyway, he sat down and chatted with Shen Shi.

"Didn't you say you were going to get married? How far along are you now?"

"Everything's almost done. You've even delivered the bicycle. Now all that's missing is the sewing machine and for you to arrange a marriage for your grandson."

Shen Shi knew that his grandfather had come specifically to give him face, and he was deeply moved.

"Alright! My eldest grandson is getting married, so I, the old man, will take care of it."

The old man thought of himself, and his grandson whom he had watched grow up, who had also reached marriageable age, and felt a wave of emotion.

On the first day of moving, they didn't prepare any dishes. The grandfather and grandson ate some pastries they brought and went to sleep.

The next day, Shen Shi made a special trip to the brigade leader's house.

"Uncle Song, my grandfather came yesterday, and I'm taking him to town today to buy some things. He really wants to see you, so I'll come to visit you the day after tomorrow after we've finished getting ready."

Shen Shi practically made it clear that he would propose marriage the day after tomorrow.

"Okay, Uncle Song will wait at home!" Captain Song agreed immediately after understanding.

After moving, there was no pot in the kitchen, so I couldn't cook. The main reason for this trip was to buy a pot.

However, it also had many drawbacks, and after going around in circles, I still bought a lot of things to take home.

Now that we have the pot and a lot of ingredients, Chen Shi can't wait to show off his skills.

After washing and blanching the pork ribs, add rock sugar to caramelize them until the sugar turns a deep reddish-brown color.

Add the ribs back in, stir-fry over high heat, then simmer over low heat to reduce the sauce. A delicious and flavorful sweet and sour pork ribs dish is ready.

Chen Shi then made a stir-fried pork dish and a hot and sour cabbage dish, and then it was time to eat.

Shen Shi's cooking skills were already quite good, and he was generous with oil and ingredients, so the dishes he stir-fried smelled amazing and whetted people's appetites.

The old man hadn't tasted Chen Shi's cooking for more than half a year, and he ate two bowls of rice in one go.

I felt so full when I went to bed at night, and I was worried that he would have indigestion, so we took a walk together to help him digest.

Over the next two days, the grandfather and grandson began preparing for the marriage proposal.

Since we already had a bicycle, we didn't need to buy another one. When things got tough, we went to the county and exchanged the bicycle ticket for a sewing machine ticket.

The person he traded with seemed to be in dire need of a bicycle, and under Shen Shi's persuasive skills, even gave him 20 yuan.

The bride price consisted of a sewing machine, 88 yuan, two pieces of fabric, and some auspicious trinkets.

Shen Shi paid for the sewing machine himself, but the old man insisted that he, as the elder, pay for the bride price.

When Shen refused to agree, the old man said again, "Don't feel embarrassed, kid. Don't worry, I didn't take the money. I asked your parents for it when we came."
