After being scolded, Liu's mother calmed down a bit.
He chuckled awkwardly twice and said to Aunt Tian, "I'm sorry, sister, I just wanted to ask if this Liu Yiyi you're talking about is a former educated youth who went to the countryside a couple of years ago."

Despite her inner resentment, Liu Yiyi maintained a submissive demeanor, inviting her mother into the house and serving her tea and water.
As soon as she entered the house, Liu's mother closed the door to the main room and impatiently pressed her for an answer, "What's going on between you and that Deng boy? Have you gotten a marriage certificate?"
After speaking, he stared intently at Liu Yiyi until he saw her shake her head, at which point he breathed a sigh of relief.
Fortunately, her daughter isn't hopelessly stupid.
Liu's mother took Liu Yiyi's hand and said gently, "Without a marriage certificate, you're not husband and wife. Yiyi, I came here today to discuss your marriage."
"A woman shouldn't marry twice, and I'm already married, so please don't say such things, Mom," Liu Yiyi replied resolutely.
It wasn't that she still had any feelings for Deng Jie, but rather that her family was a typical example of male chauvinism. Her mother would stop at nothing to get things from her for her son's sake. What good marriage could she possibly find for her? It was all just about the bride price.

Seeing that Liu Yiyi wouldn't budge, her mother had to soften her tone and coax her, "Yiyi, are you going to stay here in the countryside forever, struggling to make a living? This Director Wang may be a divorcee, but he only has one daughter and his family is very well-off." Liu's mother earnestly advised Liu Yiyi.
Seeing that she seemed unmoved, Liu's mother added, "Director Wang said that as long as you agree to marry him, he will arrange a job for you and transfer you back to the city. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so don't do anything rash!"

This startled Liu's mother. Just as she was about to speak, she saw Deng Jie standing at the door, his angry eyes blazing with fury. He had clearly heard what Liu's mother had said.
Liu Yiyi jumped to her feet in surprise. "Brother Jie, listen to me, it's not what you think."
As soon as Liu Yiyi finished speaking, she tried to grab Deng Jie's arm, but Deng Jie threw her to the ground and roared with bloodshot eyes, "You bitch, what have I ever done to wrong you!"
Liu Yiyi, who had been thrown to the ground, stared blankly at Deng Jie, who seemed to want to strangle her.
When Liu's mother saw this, she was furious. "You bastard, you lied to my daughter and you still dare to hit me!" she said, picking up a stool and going to hit Deng Jie.
Deng Jie harbored even more resentment towards Liu's mother. Seeing her rushing towards him with a stool in her hand, he kicked Liu's mother in the stomach without thinking.
