"Alright, stop standing there and sit down to eat," Lin Han urged the grandfather and grandson.
The three of them sat down at the dining table.
Grandma warmly served Shen Shi some food, saying, "Little Shi, eat more and try Grandma's cooking."
Shen nodded and ate a crab roe chicken wing first. The skin was crispy and the meat was tender, which was very delicious.
Grandma saw that Chen Shi liked to eat, so she put several more on his plate. Chen Shi said, "That's enough, Grandma. If you put any more on my plate, I won't be able to finish them."
"Eat more of what you like, you're too thin," Grandma said with concern as she looked at Shen Shi.
"Mom, don't worry about it. He's a grown man. If he wants to eat, he'll pick it up himself," Lin Han said to her mother.
Shen nodded in agreement.
After the three finished their meal, they began cutting the cake. Just as Chen was cutting it, there was a knock on the door.
"It's probably one of the neighbors coming to borrow something. I'll go check." Grandma said, opening the door. Seeing an unfamiliar figure, she asked in surprise, "Young man, who are you?"
"You must be Lin Han's mother, right? I'm her boyfriend, Ye Huai. I heard it's your birthday today, so I came to visit you."
Looking at the man in his forties in front of her, Lin's mother felt like she was hallucinating. How could a boyfriend suddenly appear? Her daughter had never told her about this!
Lin Han heard a familiar voice and ran to the door. Seeing Ye Huai, she exclaimed happily, "What brings you here? Come in quickly!"
Grandma stared blankly as Ye Huai entered the door, then suddenly realized that Chen Shi was still there. She wanted to stop him, but it was too late.
When Shen Shi looked at the strange man who entered the room, and then at the hand that Lin Han was holding, he already understood.
Ye Huai, carrying a large pile of gifts, was somewhat surprised to see the young man inside the room.
“This is my son, Chen Shi. I told you about him before,” Lin Han explained with a smile.
"So it's because we were little. I didn't prepare a gift for our first meeting." Ye Huai scratched his head sheepishly.
"No need," Shen Shi replied decisively.
An awkward atmosphere filled the air. Unable to bear the oppressive atmosphere, I wanted to push open the door and leave, but I didn't want to upset my grandmother.
Noticing Shen Shi's unease, Lin's mother spoke first: "Shen Shi, Grandma isn't feeling well and wants to take a nap. You should go ahead and get busy too."
Faced with this situation, she lost all interest in celebrating her birthday.
"Alright, Grandma, you should get some rest." After saying that, Shen Shi pushed open the door and left without saying goodbye to Lin Han.
To say that Shen Shi is feeling particularly sad or grief-stricken right now wouldn't be an exaggeration. After so many years, the mother-son relationship between the two has become quite distant.
Lin Han's parents have been divorced for many years. No matter how big a mistake Lin Han made back then, so many years have passed.
Even middle-aged people need companionship, and he should bless his mother for finding her own happiness.
But Shen Shi still desperately wanted to leave.
Lin Han is someone who doesn't care about anyone's feelings. Everything around her can easily become dramatic, and her son Shen Shi usually plays the clown in it.
Shen drove back to the company. Shen's is located in the most prime area of City A, where land is extremely valuable. The office window offers a beautiful view of the river.
"Give me an iced Americano," Shen Shi instructed his secretary over the intercom.
"Okay, Mr. Shen, please wait a moment."
Ten minutes later, the coffee was delivered to Shen Shi's office. Shen Shi drank the coffee while listening to his assistant's work report.
"Wait, you said Manager Wang is going to resign?" Shen Shi interrupted his assistant's report and asked.
"Yes, Mr. Shen," Assistant Liu replied.
If I remember correctly, this Manager Wang is nearly fifty years old and not very capable, but because he is a senior employee of the company, his salary is very high.
It's a bit strange that someone who just coasts along like this would suddenly want to quit.
"Did he say why?" Shen Shi asked.
"No."
"Don't approve the resignation letter yet. If he asks, just say you forgot to give it to me," Shen Shi instructed Xiao Liu.
Xiao Liu didn't understand why President Shen wanted to keep Manager Wang, that cunning old fox in the workplace. In his opinion, the sooner such a person left, the better.
But what the boss was thinking was beyond the comprehension of them, the employees. Xiao Liu nodded obediently, "Understood, Mr. Shen."
Shen Shi nodded to him and said, "If there's nothing else, you can go down now."
After the office door was closed, Chen Shi dialed a number.
"Young Master Shen, you're such a busy man, you've finally remembered me." A carefree, joking voice came from the other end of the line.
"Whatever, stop teasing me!" Shen Shi said helplessly.
"Tch~ How boring. I can tell you only come here when you need something. So, what do you want me to help you with?"
On the other end of the phone, He Fang pursed his lips, thinking to himself: What a boring person, he doesn't understand humor at all.
"You guessed right. I want you to help me investigate someone," Shen Shi said bluntly, without any formalities.
"Who are you looking for? Is it because you've taken a fancy to some stunning beauty?"
Upon hearing this, He Fang suspected something was amiss and asked in a gossipy tone, "Don't worry, I'm very tight-lipped and definitely won't tell anyone."
Seeing that he was thinking about things that were completely out of control, Shen Shi quickly interrupted him, "What are you thinking about? It's just that one of the company's managers is resigning, and I find that a bit strange."
As for what was strange about it, even Shen Shi himself couldn't put his finger on it.
"Ah! Is a manager worth Young Master Shen going to so much trouble for? You're overthinking it."
He Fang found it a bit boring that the first time Shen Shi had asked for his help in so many years was just to investigate a manager.
"Judging from your tone, I get the feeling you're quite disappointed," Shen Shi said in a deep voice, narrowing his eyes with displeasure.
