June of 1975 was the time of summer harvest.
Everywhere in the fields, people were sweating profusely. The ground beneath their feet was scorching hot, and there wasn't a breath of wind in the air.
The people working in the fields, however, were still working with great enthusiasm.
Aunt Tian, whose face was as round as a millstone, glanced at Chen Shi, who was harvesting wheat with her.
To make it easier to work, Chen wore a gray, patched-up jacket and muddy trouser legs.
Even so, she was still strikingly beautiful, with a face even fairer and more delicate than some of the village girls, making her more and more likable the more you looked at her.
He's a cultured man from the city; it would be wonderful if he could be her son-in-law!
Her daughter, Li Daya, is a real workhorse; she can lift eight centimeters a day, almost as much as a strong laborer! And with her big hips, she's definitely a woman who can bear children easily!
Although this educated youth is from the city, he has no roots in the village! The two are quite a good match.
Aunt Tian was getting more and more convinced of what was going on. She looked at Shen Shi nearby and started a conversation, saying, "Shen, you're all sweaty. You're not used to doing farm work, are you?"
Meanwhile, Chen Shi, who was standing to the side, felt dizzy and lightheaded for some reason.
Thinking about the heavy work in the fields during the summer harvest, I forced myself not to ask for leave.
Chen Shi noticed that Aunt Tian's mouth was moving, and he knew she was talking to him. He wanted to reply, but his mouth felt like it was glued shut, and he couldn't open it no matter what.
Then I felt dizzy and lightheaded. Suddenly I leaned back and passed out.
At that moment, a mechanical electronic voice sounded in Shen Shi's mind: "The transfer of past life memories has been completed..."
Aunt Tian, who was standing nearby, was startled by Shen Shi's sudden dizziness.
After realizing what had happened, he started shouting, "Oh no! Someone come quick! My God! Shen Zhiqing has fainted..."
"Where's the team leader? Come quick! Someone's probably suffering from heatstroke again! Call Wang Dajiao to come and take a look!" The weather was scorching hot, like being roasted by fire, and quite a few people were suffering from heatstroke in the fields.
Upon hearing Aunt Tian's shout, a tall, burly man rushed over as if flying.
This person was a group of educated youth sent to the countryside with Shen Shi; his name was Zhao Yicheng.
The two met on a train to the countryside and immediately became good friends.
Zhao Yicheng was startled to see Shen Shi lying unconscious on the ground. Without saying a word, he picked Shen Shi up and carried him on his back.
Zhao Yicheng, carrying Shen Shi on his back, ran and shouted, "Make way! Make way!" But he didn't know where to go and was so anxious that he kept running in circles.
"Xiao Zhao, quickly carry Shen, the educated youth, to the banyan tree at the edge of the field," the brigade leader said as he arrived. Seeing Zhao Yicheng carrying Shen, running around like a monkey, he gave the order.
Zhao Yicheng carried Shen Shi to the tree, his head covered in sweat.
After a while, the village doctor named Wang Dajiao also arrived.
Doctor Wang first looked at Shen Shi's pale face and saw that he was still sweating profusely, then went up and pried open Shen Shi's eyelids.
After examining him for a while, he diagnosed him, saying, "It's nothing serious, just heatstroke. Drink some herbal tea and rest for an afternoon to recover."
Then he instructed the little boy who was learning medicine from him, "Niuwa, quickly go and get a bowl of cool tea."
After drinking a bowl of herbal tea, Shen Shi's complexion improved significantly.
Seeing that everyone was alright, the team leader sternly roared at the onlookers, "Why aren't you rushing to harvest? What are you all doing standing around here? I think you don't want your work points!"
This group of people isn't enthusiastic about working; all they want to do all day is join in the fun. It's really worrying!
Seeing that the team leader had already spoken, everyone quickly dispersed.
Zhao Yicheng looked at the tree that Chen Shi was leaning against. It wasn't far from where he worked; it was within easy reach. So he didn't keep it.
After all, summer weather is unpredictable, like a child's face. It can rain anytime, so harvesting the grain is more important.
After a while, Shen Shi, who was under the tree, slowly woke up, a look of shock appearing on his pale face.
He suddenly regained his memories of his past life and learned that the world he lived in was actually a novel.
And he is the cannon fodder second male lead in this novel!
He's a complete scumbag!
This was truly surreal, completely overturning Shen Shi's understanding. Shen Shi rested the back of his head against the tree trunk and began to examine the information in his mind.
Shen was the second of three brothers in his family.
His father favored his eldest brother, his mother doted on his youngest brother, and he was caught in the middle, practically invisible.
After graduating from high school, he couldn't find a job and became unemployed. Later, he was assigned by the neighborhood committee to work as an educated youth in the countryside.
The current timeline is three months after he went to the countryside.
After being sent to the countryside, Shen Shi couldn't stand the hard work and set his sights on Song Jiajia, the youngest daughter of the brigade leader.
Shen Shi was handsome and tall, the kind of guy that young girls would like.
Under Shen Shi's carefully planned offensive, Song Jiajia indeed succumbed.
Song Jiajia is very beautiful. After the two started dating, she would give Shen Shi some nice things to help him out.
Shen Shi felt that this kind of life was pretty good.
Shen Shi and Song Jiajia's relationship progressed smoothly until one day they had sex and Song Jiajia became pregnant unexpectedly.
Having affairs before marriage is a serious matter that will be subject to criticism and persecution. Therefore, Shen Shi had no choice but to marry Song Jiajia.
Ke Chen only wanted to get some benefits from Song Jiajia. He never thought he would marry a country girl.
His ideal wife was a city girl like Liu Yiyi.
Liu Yiyi is the female protagonist of this book.
She was a sent-down youth in the same batch as Shen Shi, and their original interactions consisted only of exchanging books.
