"Yan Zheng, what are you doing? Why are you disciplining your brother for no reason?" Luo Nianzhen's voice rose.
Cheng Yuanshan slammed his chopsticks down on the bowl: "Eat your food, we'll talk after you finish eating."
As the patriarch, he still held considerable authority.
As soon as he spoke, Luo Nianzhen could only glare at her husband with a wronged expression before lowering her head to eat.
After the meal was finally finished, Cheng Yanzheng stood up and said to Cheng Yuanshan, "Then we'll be leaving now."
Cheng Yuanshan looked at his eldest son, who had a cold face ever since he entered the door, his expression hard.
"Wait a moment, Cheng Yanzheng, come to the study with me."
Cheng Yanzheng stared at Cheng Yuanshan for a few seconds.
The father and son exchanged glances.
After a while, Cheng Yanzheng finally took a step and followed Cheng Yuanshan upstairs.
Seeing them go off to chat, Luo Nianzhen couldn't help but mutter, "He can't even eat a meal in peace. It's time to do something about him."
Gao Yaohong's eyes flickered, and he smiled at Luo Nianzhen, saying, "Mom, maybe Dad just had something urgent to discuss with my older brother. Let's continue looking at the photo album. Look, this is a picture I took in the snow mountain. I was planning to take you and Dad to the snow mountain this year."
Hearing her youngest son's words, Luo Nianzhen's face immediately lit up with a smile: "I haven't been to the snow mountain yet. Your father is too busy. He always promises me and then breaks his promise. Let me see the photos you took..."
The mother and son studied the photos, while Jiang Tian smiled and waited for her husband to come downstairs.
I don't know how much time passed, but suddenly there was a loud crash upstairs, followed by the sound of a cup shattering.
"I saw it all along, you just can't stand your brother! We've given you all the Cheng family's assets, and you're still not satisfied! What do you want? Do you want your mother and me to kowtow and apologize to you before you're happy?!"
Cheng Yuanshan's roar reached everyone's ears.
Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked in the direction of the sound.
No one knows what Cheng Yanzheng said, but Cheng Yuanshan's roar grew even louder.
"Get out! Get out of here!!"
Not long after, Cheng Yanzheng, with a bright red handprint on his face, went downstairs expressionlessly.
Luo Nianzhen gasped: "Yan Zheng—"
Cheng Yanzheng ignored her, took Jiang Tian's hand, and walked towards the gate without looking back.
Jiang Tian quickly cooperated with him, and the two left the old house as fast as possible.
Once in the car, Cheng Yanzheng pursed his lips, started the car, and remained silent until they arrived home.
After returning home, Jiang Tian didn't rest; she quickly took out the family's first-aid kit.
It's unclear how much force Cheng Yuanshan used, but the handprint on Cheng Yanzheng's face looked rather frightening over time, with visible bruising.
"Need not."
Seeing Jiang Tian carrying a first-aid kit and walking towards him, Cheng Yanzheng finally spoke.
Jiang Tian did not answer. Ignoring Cheng Yanzheng's verbal refusal, she treated the injury on his face with very professional technique.
After being bandaged up, Cheng Yanzheng sat on the sofa with his head tilted back slightly and his eyes half-closed, as if he was overwhelmed by the burden.
Jiang Tian didn't give him a chance to wallow in self-pity. She immediately asked, "When are you going to cook for me? I only ate a few bites just now. The food this time is really awful compared to last time—I'm starving now."
Hearing her words, Cheng Yanzheng finally opened his eyes.
He didn't speak, paused for a moment, then silently stood up and went into the kitchen.
Jiang Tian followed behind him and watched as he opened the refrigerator and started ordering food.
"Tomatoes, and eggs too, I want tomato and egg noodles. Shrimp too, I want deep-fried shrimp. Chili peppers, and have you prepared the pork intestines? I want spicy stir-fried pork intestines..."
Cheng Yanzheng took whatever Jiang Tian said.
He was wearing a white shirt with the sleeves rolled up, revealing a muscular, dark forearm.
Once all the ingredients were prepared, he began the steps of washing, chopping, and cooking the vegetables.
Even with something weighing on his mind, Cheng Yanzheng's cooking skills did not decline.
Jiang Tian leaned against the kitchen door watching him cook, and would criticize his cooking techniques at the drop of a hat.
Cheng Yanzheng worked very quickly and soon prepared three dishes, a soup, and a bowl of noodles.
Jiang Tian and he sat facing each other, each with a bowl, a pair of chopsticks, and a spoon.
“Tell me, I take back what I said last time. I know too little about your family, even the secrets between you and your parents, I want to know—after all, an uninvited guest has come to your parents’ house.”
Having released some of the pent-up frustration through labor, Cheng Yanzheng finally felt like answering Jiang Tian's question.
The story is actually very simple and not melodramatic at all.
When Cheng Yuanshan was young, he was daring and hardworking. He was originally a rich young master with sufficient financial support. When the time came, he rode the wave of the times and expanded his business.
During his business dealings, he met several brothers.
One of his close brothers was like a brother to him.
Although one came from a poor background and the other was a rich young master, they felt like they had known each other for a long time.
Later, the two got married one after the other, and their families visited each other frequently.
However, in an accident, his good brother lost his life for Cheng Yuanshan, leaving behind a crying baby.
That child is Gao Yaohong.
The child's mother was taken back to her parents' home, and Cheng Yuanshan felt obligated to take Gao Yaohong to his own home.
Cheng Yanzheng had only been born a short time then.
