Is it wrong to love someone?
Cheng Yanzheng looked at Jiang Tian with a pale face: "So you want to break up with me?"
Jiang Tian looked him straight in the eye: "Because I won't change, and you don't need to change. In the short term, our relationship will be helpful to you, but when the day comes that you really want to spend the rest of your life together, you won't be satisfied with me as your wife. I can help you grow, but I can never be your good helper, let alone put the focus of my life on you."
"I will keep liking you, but not backing down means that one person has to give in. Is it a good thing if you always give in? People are independent individuals. If you keep retreating, then you will have nowhere left to retreat to, and in the end, we will still reach a dead end."
Jiang Tian's words were full of rationality.
She could almost foresee their future married life.
Perhaps she could compromise on some things, but a marriage is inherently a tug-of-war. If she compromises on some things, Cheng Yanzheng will want more. If she doesn't compromise and Cheng Yanzheng keeps giving, the scales will also become unbalanced.
Has Cheng Yanzheng changed his views on choosing a partner by now?
Actually, no.
He still hopes that Jiang Tian will make corresponding compromises for him. For example, in a relationship, he hopes to see someone who is completely honest with him.
He wanted everything; that's what he thought.
He wanted to see Jiang Tian give him her wholehearted love.
In a short-term relationship, Jiang Tian will bring about positive changes in him; her personality will influence him and help him grow as a person. However, in the long run, they will not be able to find that balance, and their marriage will eventually become a ruin.
Jiang Tian will not stop for anyone; she is a free person.
But Cheng Yanzheng hoped that someone would always be waiting for him at home.
The fact that their conflict was exposed at this moment is actually a good thing.
After all, their relationship wasn't deep enough for them to be seriously hurt by each other. Cheng Yanzheng reached that limit at certain moments, but Jiang Tian clearly didn't.
She viewed the relationship objectively, examined his attitude towards her, and took a step back in time.
She wouldn't let herself get hurt, and she didn't want to owe anyone anything.
In short, she doesn't need Cheng Yanzheng to make sacrifices for her in the name of love.
"Think it over carefully. Actually, going back to being friends would be good for both of us. This relationship didn't last very long anyway, and you've already seen what a healthy relationship looks like, which I wanted to show you."
"Perhaps you feel heartbroken now that we've separated, but time heals all wounds. Jiang Tang's father, we were deeply in love back then, but at some point our love burned out. We each took a step back, became good friends, and raised this daughter together."
"It's enough that love brings us joy when it exists. Life requires more than just love to move forward. Few people in the world can find true love and spend the rest of their lives with it. We should feel lucky that love once burned within us."
Cheng Yanzheng looked at her with red eyes: "Besides saying these things, what else can you say? In your eyes, do our feelings need to be controlled by reason? Then why do we have feelings in the first place? Feelings are inherently irrational!"
Seeing his sadness, Jiang Tian was not angry. Instead, she looked at him calmly and said with a touch of gentleness in her voice, "If I could control my emotions with reason, then there would be no reason for this relationship to begin."
Cheng Yanzheng was stunned.
"I haven't been in a romantic relationship with anyone for many years. One day, when I saw you in a vulnerable moment, I felt a tremor in my heart. I realized that I really wanted to protect you. You know, it takes a man so much to awaken a woman's maternal instincts."
"From a fleeting flutter of the heart to a later attraction, and then to liking, it was a completely unfamiliar process for me. Later, I let myself go... but I saw the fundamental contradiction in our relationship."
"I don't want to back down for anyone, yet I'm greedy, hoping to leave a mark on you that belongs to me. I'm a selfish person."
“You are an even more ruthless person,” Cheng Yanzheng coldly emphasized.
Jiang Tian smiled and did not deny it: "Yes, I want to be good to you, but I don't want you to disrupt my life rhythm and make me become unlike myself. I have seen too many marital tragedies and I don't want to give up my moment of control for anyone."
"I'm willing to make concessions for you."
Cheng Yanzheng couldn't help but grab her hand and look at her with a yearning gaze.
Jiang Tian's words just now affirmed him and suddenly gave him courage again.
At least this woman told the truth; she did have feelings for him, and she wasn't deliberately trying to toy with his heart.
This woman genuinely wanted to be good to him and hoped that he would eventually gain something, let go of his past traumas, and move on from those experiences.
But what did he gain? She definitely didn't want him anymore.
His greed was growing; he was avaricious and wanted to acquire more.
But Jiang Tian refused to give it to her.
Jiang Tian slowly pulled her hand out of his.
She took a step back: "I don't need anyone to sacrifice for me. Love isn't about sacrifice. You have to understand, debts in this world are always cyclical. I owe you, and I'll have to repay you eventually. Isn't it enough to just stay at the best moment for each other?"
"Not enough," Cheng Yanzheng said through gritted teeth.
Jiang Tian smiled at him: "That's enough for me."
Cheng Yanzheng looked at her in silence.
"Let's stop dwelling on those romantic feelings and focus on the real issues at hand. I hope you can protect Jiang Tang; she's innocent."
Cheng Yanzheng stared at her relentlessly, and said with certainty, "You abandoned me."
Jiang Tian's eyes were somewhat distant: "It's not abandonment, but a peaceful end."
"It means abandonment."
Cheng Yanzheng confirmed this.
This woman is willing to make sacrifices for him in a relationship, but she doesn't want to give up her principles. She doesn't want to back down, nor does she want him to, because she doesn't want the relationship to be clearly defined, or even feel indebted to her.
At other times, he might admire such a person, but now that he is the one experiencing pain, he can no longer simply detach himself from the situation.
"Even if I abandon you, so what?" Jiang Tian smiled at him. "Will you take revenge on me?"
Cheng Yanzheng offered her his heart, but she didn't want it. What's the point of revenge? Is this woman afraid of revenge? She has plenty of ways out.
For some reason, Cheng Yanzheng laughed, though he himself didn't know what he was laughing at.
