The couple exchanged a glance, both revealing their displeasure.
Xie Zilang's biological mother managed to give him a gentle smile.
"You are our child, why don't you go back?"
Xie Zilang felt as if a string in his heart was being stretched taut.
He looked at the couple, opened his mouth, but ultimately chose not to utter any harsh words.
He is not qualified.
They kindly took him back to live a good life, so how could he question them about why they hadn't looked for him all these years, why they assumed he was doing well, and why they took him back but didn't give him the same treatment as other children, all because of the hidden pain in his heart?
In the end, he said nothing.
After a slight pause, Xie Zilang simply said, "You all go back first. I'll think about this matter."
The couple seemed even more unhappy.
The middle-aged lady smiled and said, "Child, you may not know, but you look so much like your father when he was young. Some of our friends who saw the movie you acted in immediately thought of you when you were lost."
Xie Zilang was struck dumb.
Suddenly, it seemed he had touched the edge of some truth...
“If you don’t go back, your father and I will be seen as heartless and ungrateful people in other people’s eyes.”
Her tone was neither too light nor too heavy, yet it still managed to smash another bloody hole into Xie Zilang's already wounded heart.
Now that I've explained everything, is there anything Xie Zilang doesn't understand?
He assumed that the couple had seen his face by chance and, out of familial affection, had come to find him.
They only found out now that their friends discovered Xie Zilang and learned about the couple's past experience of losing their child. Fearing being gossiped about, the couple decided to take him back.
After all, their family is even wealthier than the Xie family, and the people they associate with are definitely not ordinary people. It would be a real loss to suffer a bad reputation because of a child.
Xie Zilang's face was deathly pale; he could barely maintain his composure.
Ignoring the couple's astonished gazes, he stood up on his own and stumbled out.
Only when he reached the door did he say softly, "Back then, you didn't just lose me, you deliberately abandoned me, didn't you..."
The air froze for a moment, and the couple's expressions immediately turned ugly.
Their failure to refute in time already explained everything.
………………
Xie Zilang sat alone by the river, watching the rolling water flow by, and suddenly wondered where his home was.
How can a person be abandoned so completely?
He thought he was a nuisance wherever he went, a piece of junk wherever he went.
He looked up at the starry sky, the cold wind relentlessly brushing past his ears, his gaze blank.
Unbeknownst to him, a thought suddenly popped into his mind.
This thought, like water surging in the darkness, slowly overwhelmed him, gradually covering his mouth, nose, and eyes, slowly devouring him...
Xie Zilang closed his eyes, and as if driven by someone, stood up and walked into the depths of darkness...
Just then, his phone rang—
Xie Zilang suddenly opened his eyes, and the words "Jiang Tian" on the screen rushed into view.
After hesitating for a few seconds, Xie Zilang answered the call.
Jiang Tian immediately launched into a tirade of scolding: "Xie Zilang, are you trying to dawdle with me? Who spends three hours shopping for groceries?! Don't tell me you got lost. The supermarket is so close, you could walk back in a minute!"
"Are you trying to starve me to death?!"
Gradually, a light appeared in Xie Zilang's eyes.
He didn't speak, but Jiang Tian seemed to have sensed something was wrong. She asked suspiciously, "Why do I hear the sound of flowing water and wind?"
After a pause of one second, Jiang Tian's voice rose several octaves: "Xie Zilang, I'm starving at home, and you went to the riverbank to enjoy the scenery?!"
"Are you tired of living?! You have twenty minutes to go home and cook dinner right now!!!"
Xie Zilang entered the goal in the eighteenth minute.
Jiang Tian was practicing her dance when, caught off guard, Xie Zilang gave her no signal. So, the moment Xie Zilang put down the dishes, the accident happened.
He didn't say a word and walked straight toward Jiang Tian.
Before Jiang Tian could finish speaking, she stumbled and was pulled into Xie Zilang's arms.
They held each other tightly.
The chill emanating from him was instantly dispelled by Jiang Tian's warm and soft body.
"Jiang Tian, can you take me in for the rest of my life?"
Xie Zilang held Jiang Tian tightly and whispered in her ear.
It was less of an inquiry and more of a plea for help.
