"Jiang You, stop talking nonsense." Xu Nian wanted her dead, and this guy was talking in his sleep.
She was stabbed through the neck; how could he possibly save her from such a wound?
Why isn't she dead yet?
"Jiang You, what are you doing?" Xu Nian was so shocked when she saw Jiang You throw an unknown insect into her wound that she almost sat up in shock.
"Niannian, don't move, I'm helping you stop the bleeding." Jiang You said earnestly, while Xu Nian looked resistant.
Suddenly, her gaze was drawn to the white hair in front of her. Upon closer inspection, she saw that Jiang You's hair was half black and half white.
"Jiang You, what happened to your hair?" She remembered that just a few days ago he had a full head of black hair.
"I gave you half of my life, and that's how I ended up like this." Jiang You didn't hide what he had done; he didn't want to be a fool who only knew how to sacrifice for love.
Xu Nian's thoughts were stuck. She hadn't died because Jiang You had risked his life to save her.
"Jiang You, are you stupid?" Xu Nian's eyes welled up with tears. It turned out that besides her father and brothers, there was someone else in this world who was willing to risk his life to save her.
“Niannian, I’m not stupid, I just… what’s the point of my life without you!” Jiang You finished bandaging Xu Nian’s wound, pressed his forehead against hers, and looked at her with deep affection in his eyes.
The burning emotion in his eyes scorched Xu Nian's heart.
"Jiang You, when did you fall for me?" Xu Nian belatedly realized that his gaze towards her had never changed; from the first time they met until now, he had been looking at her like that.
Upon hearing Xu Nian's question, Jiang You finally understood that Xu Nian had never realized he loved her.
Given his actions, she probably always saw him as a villain, and he only got what he deserved.
Jiang You smiled bitterly, looking at the person in his arms. He said earnestly, "Niannian, I fell in love with you at first sight, and it will last a lifetime. My feelings for you have never been just liking, but love."
"..." Xu Nian blinked, looking at the man whose hair had turned half white from caring for her with a bewildered expression.
He said he had always loved her.
Should she be touched or reciprocate his feelings?
Xu Nian found the question too difficult and couldn't give an answer, so she simply fainted.
Jiang You frantically checked on Xu Nian's condition, and only after learning that she had simply fainted did the weight in his heart slowly lift.
Xu Nian's life has been saved. As long as she recovers well, she will be able to move around freely in ten days to two weeks.
Jiang You carried Xu Nian past more than a dozen skeletons and walked for a while before finding the escaped horse.
After mounting his horse, Jiang You determined the direction he had come from and urged the horse to move in that direction.
During the time they rode out of the Gobi Desert, Xu Nian woke up briefly, ate something and drank some water. Jiang You talked to her for a while, and then she fell asleep again.
When Xu Nian woke up again, she was already in an inn in a border town.
She lay in bed, and Jiang You sat beside her, watching over her.
Seeing the weariness between his brows, Xu Nian felt inexplicably at ease.
She raised her hand to his eyebrows and eyes, smoothing out his furrowed brows.
"Niannian, you're awake. How are you feeling?" Jiang You grasped Xu Nian's hand and saw the tenderness in her eyes. His heart began to pound wildly; it was filled with joy and jubilation.
"I'm fine now. But you, are you feeling alright anywhere?" Xu Nian didn't know how Jiang You had managed to save her.
But judging from his hair, the price must have been very high.
"Niannian, are you concerned about me?" Jiang You knew how to grasp the key points, and he heard what he wanted to hear.
Xu Nianyu hesitated for a moment, then nodded and said, "Yes! I'm concerned about you."
Jiang You was overjoyed to receive a response, but he was so flustered that he didn't know where to put his hands.
Xu Nian was amused by his expression; he was really cute, and he was so happy just from her response.
Noticing the dark circles under his eyes, Xu Nian tugged at his sleeve and said, "Jiang You, do you want to come up and sleep with me?"
"No, Niannian, you haven't eaten anything yet, you can't sleep anymore," Jiang You disagreed.
"There's soup simmering in the kitchen. I'll go get it for you. Drink the soup before you go to sleep."
Jiang You went to the kitchen and brought the soup over.
After Xu Nian finished drinking the soup and rinsed her mouth, she looked at Jiang You expectantly.
Jiang You knew what she meant, so he took off his coat and shoes and lay down properly next to Xu Nian.
"Jiang You, go to sleep! I'm always here." Xu Nian's gentle voice was the best lullaby for Jiang You.
His anxiety and unease of the past few days vanished at that moment.
He allowed his consciousness to enter a state of slumber.
He seemed to be having a sweet dream; a smile remained on his lips as he slept.
Xu Nian looked at his profile, then at his proper sleeping posture, smiled slightly, and pulled the blanket over them.
Because her wounds were still healing, Xu Nian closed her eyes again shortly after regaining consciousness.
The bed was exceptionally warm this time, and I slept so comfortably that I didn't want to move.
He didn't know how much time had passed when Jiang You suddenly opened his eyes, his eyes still showing a look of panic.
Only when he touched the soft warmth beside him did he realize that it was just a dream, that she was not dead, and that she was still by his side.
Jiang You straightened up slightly and gently kissed Xu Nian's pale lips, very carefully, yet with great tenderness.
When Xu Nian woke up, she saw the person next to her staring at her, as if afraid she would run away.
"Jiang You, have you seen enough?" Xu Nian smiled helplessly.
"No, my wife is so beautiful, I can never get enough of looking at her." Jiang You honestly shook his head, his eyes remaining fixed on her.
"Smooth-talking." Xu Nian blushed slightly.
No wonder the rich young ladies in storybooks are so easily fooled by a few words.
Who doesn't like to hear nice words?
“Niannian, put your hand out,” Jiang You suddenly said in a serious tone.
"What?" Xu Nian held out her hand in front of him, her eyes still full of confusion. Then she heard a "slap" as Jiang You slapped her palm.
"Niannian, this is a punishment for your reckless actions."
"Smack!"
"This is a beating because you never consult me when you encounter problems."
"Smack!"
"This is a death sentence for you."
After delivering the three slaps, Jiang You looked at his bright red palm and felt a pang of heartache. "Niannian, does your hand hurt?"
"..." You've already finished hitting him, and now you're asking if it hurts? Don't you think it's too late?
"Jiang You, my hand hurts so much," Xu Nian said, her eyes red.
"Niannian, it's okay if it hurts. This kind of thing won't happen again, you know?" Jiang You blew on Xu Nian's palm like he was coaxing a child, while also telling her that it didn't hurt anymore.
His childish appearance and childish words warmed Xu Nian's heart.
"Jiang You, if I had the chance to choose again, I would still go to the Gobi Desert to find my father."
