The next morning, Xu Nian carried Yuanbao out and found He Lin and the others preparing breakfast in an orderly manner.
"Sister, you're up! Come and sit down, we're having porridge this morning," He Lin warmly invited Xu Nian to sit down.
Xu Nian walked over and sat down, noticing that He Lin was wearing a new pair of shoes today, but she didn't ask any questions.
These veteran players probably have some game items she doesn't know about, so it's normal for them to carry some with them.
Even pots and pans are included.
The thick white porridge exudes the fragrance of rice, and the temperature is just right; one bite warms the heart and soul.
"Hey! Sister, are you feeling unwell? Your face is so pale, and your hands are ice cold." He Lin's words drew the attention of the others, but most of them looked at He Lin herself.
"It's nothing, I probably just caught a cold." Xu Nian smiled, knowing what was wrong with her body.
“Miss Xu, catching a cold in the game isn’t a good thing,” Captain Lin said, frowning.
"I won't hold anyone back." Xu Nian hugged Yuanbao tightly with one hand, looking somewhat pitiful.
“Miss Xu, don’t misunderstand. I’m not trying to kick you out. It’s just that if you encounter a strange pursuer in your current state, you need to be more careful when you run away.” Captain Lin quickly explained, not wanting to be misunderstood by anyone.
"Don't be afraid, sister, I'll protect you." He Lin volunteered, her face instantly turning bright red.
"Thank you." Xu Nian smiled, put down the bowl in her hand, and looked at the remaining porridge in the bowl with regret in her eyes.
This is just the beginning, and her need for food is already so low.
After finishing their porridge, the group tidied up and began discussing what they needed to do that day.
The fat man was in charge of burning incense at the ancestral hall all by himself.
Wei Nana and Chi Nan went out to search for clues, Uncle Xu and Captain Lin were in one team, and Xu Nian naturally went with He Lin.
Walking through the village today, I could clearly feel the difference from yesterday. Red lanterns were being hung up and big red "double happiness" characters were pasted up, and the villagers I saw all had happy faces.
However, when they saw Xu Nian, their expressions froze unnaturally.
"Sister, judging from their preparations, the wedding in two days must be very important. This might be our chance to pass through the checkpoint," He Lin said, looking around.
"Who do you think the bride is?" Xu Nian thought of the "she" that the villagers had been talking about so strangely.
She will kill everyone.
Based on the rules and clues they obtained yesterday, it's not hard to guess that this "she" must be the bride.
"Sister, do you mean finding a bride before the wedding?" He Lin understood immediately and started checking each house. She found that every household was similar, with two lanterns hanging at the door and "double happiness" characters pasted on the windows.
Since they couldn't find a suitable family for a bride in the village, the two couldn't help but wonder if the bride had married into the village from outside.
"Wait, if there's a bride, then who's the groom?" He Lin thought back and realized that no family seemed to be holding a wedding banquet.
"Who says a wedding has to have a groom?" Xu Nian's words brought He Lin to his senses.
He fell into a logical fallacy. This was a game instance, anything was possible. With that thought, he immediately took Xu Nian back to the ancestral hall.
Xu Nian didn't know how their team contacted each other, but soon everyone returned.
He Lin asked around, but the answers were all the same. Wei Nana, who was in charge of inquiring, also said that she didn't know who the bride and groom were.
With a target in mind, there's no need for blind searching. But where exactly is the bride?
"Yesterday it was still foggy outside the village, but today 'Captain Lin' and I went to check, and we can get through to the woods." Uncle Xu reminded everyone that since they couldn't find it in the village, they should go and check outside the village.
"Then let's go outside the village and take a look. But everyone, don't fall behind this time. We don't know what dangers are outside," Captain Lin cautiously instructed.
No one objected, so they all headed out of the village together.
Upon arriving at the village entrance, they discovered that the area outside the village was also adorned with red lanterns.
These lanterns were hung under every tree, stretching forward. Following the path with the lanterns, I walked for quite a while, but the path still seemed endless.
For some reason, I suddenly felt that the surroundings were quiet and eerie, and a strange chill crept up my back.
Everyone looked around warily; a rustling sound came from all directions—they were being surrounded.
"Run, back to the village."
Even though we don't know what's lurking in the shadows, running away is always the best option right now.
Xu Nian ran at the back of the group, silently clutching the gold ingot in her hand, ready to pounce at any moment.
Suddenly, her other hand was grabbed, and she turned to meet the boy's concerned gaze. "Sister, don't be afraid, I'll protect you."
"The right choice for you at this moment is to abandon me and run for your own life." Xu Nian had to admit that she was touched by this boy's kindness at this moment.
"Sister, don't talk, conserve your energy and keep running." He Lin's expression gradually became serious.
Behind them, there were increasingly loud running sounds, accompanied by howling wolves.
Suddenly, a woman's voice came from behind.
"Help me...don't bite me...go away...go away...all of you go away...ah...my leg, someone please help me...!"
Xu Nian immediately recognized Wei Nana's voice, followed by Chi Nan's screams and cries for help.
"Don't look back, it's all fake," He Lin said, his face tense.
Fog rose over the woods at this moment, and the road leading to the village began to blur, while the sound of running behind them grew closer and closer.
