Xu Nian's overly compliant demeanor gave Yan Ze the impression that she had resigned herself to her fate.
He stroked her hair and kissed her eyes; Yan Ze truly adored her.
It's tiny and chubby, just the right size to hold in your arms.
She's just too delicate; she cries and bites him if you use even a little force.
The satellite phone by the bed rang, and Yan Ze reluctantly answered it. A teasing voice came from the other end: "No wonder you didn't want to come to the base, bro. You've really worn me out these past few days."
"Li Chen, shut up." Yan Ze's face turned as black as the bottom of a pot when he thought about how the other person had a telepathic connection with him.
"Brother, you'd better keep a close eye on her. Don't let me see her, or I'm afraid I'll try to take her from you." Li Chen's seemingly joking tone made both of them fall silent.
From childhood to adulthood, they liked the same things, did the same things, and even used the same methods.
It's not surprising that they would both fall for the same person now.
“She’s your sister-in-law.” Yan Ze’s words made Li Chen on the other end of the phone laugh out loud.
"Brother, don't be silly. What you're saying won't work. Just keep an eye on her." Li Chen really lacked confidence in himself. The tacit understanding between the two brothers since childhood told him that he would definitely try to steal her away from his older brother.
"You've finished building your base?" Yan Ze could only change the subject.
"That's about it. I'll come pick you up in a couple of days." Li Chen's words made Yan Ze subconsciously pull the person in his arms closer.
He didn't want Li Chen to see Xu Nian, but he couldn't make her live a good life on his own.
"Okay." Yan Ze's words made Li Chen want to tease him again, but then he thought better of it. He was very curious about what was so special about the person that his brother had taken a liking to.
"Alright, I won't disturb your sweet moments any longer. See you at the entrance of the complex at 2 PM two days from now." Li Chen hung up the phone after saying that.
Yan Ze threw the satellite phone back onto the bedside table and grabbed Xu Nian to begin a new round of demands.
"Niannian, say you like me." Hearing Yan Ze's words, Xu Nian just hummed and ignored him.
Do I like him? Does he deserve it?
"It's okay if Niannian doesn't say anything. It's enough that I like you." Yan Ze really didn't want Xu Nian to see Li Chen. She could dislike him, but she couldn't like Li Chen either.
Otherwise he'll get jealous, he'll go crazy.
He's sick, and seriously so. That's Xu Nian's diagnosis of Yan Ze.
But her chance came.
Yan Ze didn't hide his phone call from her, and she heard everything clearly.
Two days later, she planned to find an opportunity to harm Yan Ze and then leave safely.
Xu Nian thought the two days would pass quickly, but she didn't expect Yan Ze to be so ruthless that she couldn't even get out of bed.
"Niannian, I really like you more and more." Yan Ze said to Xu Nian with an obsessive and almost morbid fascination.
"Enough, let go of me." Xu Nian was annoyed. He wouldn't even let her sleep properly. He would come over and hug her and say he liked her all the time.
"I won't let go. Can't you like me a little bit too?" Yan Ze said patiently.
"Yan Ze, if you're mentally ill, go get treatment. Don't disturb my sleep." Xu Nian covered her ears, still unwilling to say even a hint of liking him.
Yan Ze fell silent. Everything was something he had forced, so he deserved it now. She had never liked him.
But what could he do? He was growing to like her more and more; he was no longer satisfied with the status quo, he wanted more.
He's getting increasingly greedy.

"Niannian, wake up, we should leave." Xu Nian was woken up by Yan Ze. Looking at the backpack on his back and the weapon in his hand, she knew it was time.
After changing into her own clothes, Xu Nian took a kitchen knife and followed Yan Ze out the door.
The entire corridor reeked of rotting corpses. Xu Nian looked around and spotted several decaying zombie bodies.
They died a horrible death; their heads were smashed to pieces. Nobody knows who did it.
"Niannian, stay close to me. When I tell you to run, you run, understand?" Yan Ze instructed.
"I understand," Xu Nian replied softly, her eyes beginning to dart around.
They didn't encounter many zombies along the way, and Yan Ze's headshot made Xu Nian realize who had killed the zombies in the corridor.
When the two reached the first floor, the number of zombies gradually increased.
Yan Ze efficiently fought off the zombies while protecting Xu Nian behind him.
"Niannian, go and unlock the gate quickly." As soon as Yan Ze finished speaking, Xu Nian ran towards the gate.
The gate was locked with a chain, but fortunately it wasn't locked. Xu Nian wrapped the chain around the gate a few times and opened it.
She went out first, then closed the door under Yan Ze's surprised gaze and re-wrapped the chains.
"Niannian, don't go, come back." Yan Ze's voice trembled slightly, and his eyes were wet. However, the person he was looking at only looked at him coldly, and then turned away without any mercy.
"Niannian, Xu Nian, come back!" Yan Ze's shouts attracted more zombies, but he couldn't care less. He only saw the woman walking further and further away until he could no longer see her.
When Li Chen arrived with his men, he saw his brother alone, desperately beating up a zombie.
His expression was ferocious and desperate, as if he had been driven to a dead end.
"Brother, are you alright?" Li Chen stood to the side without going over; the zombie that had been brutally beaten was already dead.
"Li Chen, she's gone. She left me all alone." Yan Ze lowered his head, his voice filled with confusion.
"She ran away when she saw you were in danger?" Li Chen's tone turned dangerous. She was just a cowardly woman, why was his brother so heartbroken?
“She hates me, she wishes I were dead.” Yan Ze’s words startled Li Chen.
"Brother, what did you do to her?" Li Chen finally realized that things were not as simple as he thought.
"What...what did I do to her? What did I do to her?" Yan Ze thought about what he had done during this time, and he covered his face without answering Li Chen.
Even if Yan Ze didn't say it, Li Chen would guess. He thought about the abnormalities in his body after the apocalypse and realized when his brother had started having a woman.
"Brother, you wouldn't have taken advantage of that girl's escape and then raped her, would you?" Li Chen's words made Yan Ze look up.
Sometimes, without saying a word, a single look can say it all.
Li Chen suddenly didn't know what to say about Yan Ze. Should he say he deserved it?
It's understandable that the girl hates him.
"Don't look at me like that. When you meet her, you'll do the same thing I did." Yan Ze's confident words made Li Chen purse his lips.
"I'm not like you, I would never do something so tasteless," Li Chen said confidently.
"Don't speak too soon." Yan Ze knew all too well how attractive Xu Nian was to him; even though she had run away now, he had never thought of letting go.
He just wanted to find her, lock her up, and then lock her up so she wouldn't abandon him.
"Brother, do you want to see a psychologist?" Li Chen always felt that his brother was not normal.
"I'm fine, I'm not sick. Lend me a few people, I need to go find her." Yan Ze's persistent attitude made Li Chen shake his head and refuse.
He advised, "Brother, please let that girl go!"
Yan Ze's eyes turned bloodshot: "Don't even think about it, she's mine for life."
