Chapter 84 The Widow Married to Bring Good Fortune in Farming Novels (9)

Mu Qingqing hadn't seen Xu Nian for several days. Every time she tried to go to Xu Nian's house, she was greeted by Wang Pu'an's sour face.

"Big Dark Face, you stay at home all day, don't you need to go out and earn money?" Mu Qingqing was also puzzled, wondering how this person supported Xu Nian.

"Miss Mu, this is none of your business. Niannian is still resting, so please go back!" Mu Qingqing could easily see through Wang Pu'an's perfunctory attitude; he clearly didn't want her to see Xu Nian.

"Did you do something to Niannian? It's been days, and she's been resting every day. Are you kidding me? Move aside, I need to see her." Mu Qingqing rushed in regardless, but Wang Pu'an had already been on guard against her.

He grabbed her by the back of her collar and sent her out, then rudely closed the courtyard gate.

No matter how much Mu Qingqing shouted at the door, he simply ignored her.

Xu Nian heard the commotion in the courtyard, but looking at the horrific marks on her neck, she felt an urge to beat Wang Pu'an to a pulp.

This guy is really something else. To prevent her from seeing Mu Qingqing, he tormented her relentlessly at night and then came back in the morning.

For the sake of her back, Xu Nian had no choice but to stay home and not go out to see Mu Qingqing.

"Niannian, did we wake you up?" Wang Pu'an came in carrying food and saw Xu Nian sitting in front of the bronze mirror wearing undergarments. He looked a little guilty.

“Wang Pu’an, I know you’re insecure, but you’ve gone too far these past few days.” Xu Nian said expressionlessly.

"Niannian, I was wrong, please don't ignore me." Wang Puan quickly put down the food and squatted down in front of Xu Nian, pleading.

He tried to grab her hand, but she coldly pulled it away.

"Niannian." He looked at her blankly, and the panic in his heart instantly overwhelmed him.

He had never seen Xu Nian like this before. Even when he forced himself on her the first time, she had never looked at him like this.

That look was so cold, it made his heart tremble.

"Niannian, I really know I was wrong. Please don't look at me like that. I deserve to die. I'm not human. You can hit me, you can scold me, just please don't look at me like that." Wang Pu'an hugged Xu Nian tightly. Tears fell uncontrollably, soaking Xu Nian's white undergarment.

“Wang Pu’an, sometimes I think, you say you love me, you like me, but most of the time aren’t you just loving yourself?” Xu Nian closed her eyes and said.

"No, no, Niannian, I really love you. What can I do to make you believe me?" Wang Pu'an cried bitterly, his voice trembling with tears.

"Wang Pu'an, is it so hard to admit that you love yourself?" Xu Nian asked, puzzled. He said he loved her, yet he could disregard her feelings at the same time.

In her view, shouldn't love be equal?

Isn't this possessive and biased preference a form of mental illness?

“Niannian, it’s okay if you don’t understand me. I will spend my whole life making you understand that I truly love you.” Wang Pu’an knew what Xu Nian wanted, but it was impossible. He couldn’t live without her.

“If you insist on leaving me, Nian Nian, there is a way. Use this to stab me in the heart. Once I die, you will be free.” Wang Pu’an took out the dagger he had been keeping at his waist for self-defense and solemnly placed it in Xu Nian’s hand.

"Wang Pu'an, you're utterly unreasonable!" Xu Nian's eyes were practically spitting fire with anger.

She threw away the dagger in her hand, and still not satisfied, she kicked Wang Pu'an.

Kicked to the ground, Wang Pu'an was not sad at all; instead, he laughed. He smiled broadly and looked at Xu Nian triumphantly, saying, "Niannian, you still can't bear to kill me."

"Get out, I don't want to see you." Xu Nian's fingers trembled with anger. Yuanbao was right, another one of them had gone mad.

At this moment, Wang Pu'an would not listen to Xu Nian's words. He got up from the ground, hugged the woman into his arms and whispered, "Niannian, I am willing to go crazy for you for the rest of my life."

Xu Nian looked at him silently without saying a word.

She tried to struggle and resist the male protagonist, but all her attempts proved futile.

She also wanted to lie down, but her mindset told her she shouldn't.

“Niannian, the lotus flowers outside the town will be in bloom in a few days. How about we go boating on the lake together?” Wang Pu’an wanted to divert Xu Nian’s attention and stop her from sulking with him.

"Whatever you want," Xu Nian said listlessly.

"Then it's settled." Wang Pu'an didn't mind Xu Nian's perfunctory attitude.

He kissed her cheek and continued, "Niannian, you should eat first, or the food will get cold."

Xu Nian wouldn't make things difficult for herself; her emotions came and went quickly, and she should eat when she was hungry.

She was eating, and Wang Pu'an was serving her food. He only started eating after she finished.

Sigh! Because of his habit of always putting her first, Xu Nian sometimes wonders if she is ungrateful.

Wang Pu'an is good at earning money to support his family and taking care of people. Apart from his absurdity in the bedroom, he is the perfect husband.

Unfortunately, she wasn't the type to fall in love easily and couldn't get involved.

Wang Pu'an appeared to be focused on eating, but he was actually secretly observing Xu Nian. He noticed that her expression had softened and the corners of her mouth couldn't help but turn up as she ate.

Niannian still softened towards him; his efforts weren't in vain.

His constant remembrance!

She's so wonderful, how could he possibly let her go!

Even if she never likes him, he will never let go.

In this life, she doesn't need to love him; it's enough that he loves her.

...

A few days later.

Early in the morning, Xu Nian was taken out by Wang Pu'an. They were supposed to go by oxcart, but Xu Nian refused.

The two walked side by side out of the town, and after walking for about the time it takes to burn an incense stick, they arrived at the large lake where lotus flowers were in full bloom.

Wang Puan rented a boat, and he led Xu Nian onto the boat. Only after making sure she was seated did he row into the lotus lake.

"Niannian, look, there's a lotus pod over there." Wang Pu'an rowed the boat over, picked the lotus pod, and then broke it open to peel the lotus seeds for Xu Nian.

He peeled one and she ate one.

"Wang Pu'an, open your mouth." Xu Nian fed him the last lotus seed.

"Niannian, shall we pick a few lotus flowers to take back?" Wang Puan asked Xu Nian, looking at the blooming lotus flowers around them.

"No need. Flowers are only beautiful when they bloom on the branch. They'll wither if you pick them." Xu Nian shook her head, touching the delicate lotus flower.

She's perfectly content to be a tourist enjoying the scenery; they're so beautiful, they should bloom freely.

However, the experience of enjoying the flowers from a cruise ship is truly wonderful. The lotus leaves stretch to the sky, an endless expanse of green, while the lotus blossoms, bathed in sunlight, are a vibrant red.

The ancients were right; they were all realists.

"Niannian, here you go." Wang Puan took out the pastries and water he had prepared earlier and handed them to Xu Nian.

"Thank you." Xu Nian took the package and unwrapped it to find that the pastries were plain white cakes, and they didn't look very good.

"Niannian, try it and see if it's good." Wang Pu'an's nervous yet expectant gaze made Xu Nian realize that he had learned to make this pastry to please her.

Xu Nian picked up a piece of pastry and took a bite. It wasn't too sweet or greasy; the flavor was just right. "Not bad, delicious."

Those few words made Wang Puan feel that everything was worthwhile.
