Chapter 34 Conquering the Emperor of the Enemy Country

After sitting in the teahouse for half an hour, Xue An seemed to have obtained the information he wanted. He got up and left with Feng Guang. Just as when they came, the two of them maintained their positions one in front of the other. He didn't speak, so she didn't say another word either.

As the saying goes, the weather is unpredictable. Just moments ago it was sunny, but now dark clouds have gathered and a torrential downpour has begun. Pedestrians on the street rushed to take shelter and head home, and vendors quickly packed up their stalls. The streets became increasingly deserted. Xue An and Feng Guang stood under the eaves of a house to take shelter from the rain. Although they were not slow, they still got quite wet.

Xue An watched an elderly couple walk by slowly, sharing an umbrella. Feeling a curious gaze fixed on him, he turned his head, looked down at the girl who barely reached his shoulder, and raised an eyebrow, asking, "What?"

"Your face..." She seemed hesitant and didn't finish her sentence.

Xue An touched his temples and realized that because they were wet, his human skin mask had separated from his skin at the edge. He smiled indifferently and said, "Want to see what I look like under my mask?"

She nodded at first, then immediately shook her head.

"Don't worry, even if you see it, I won't kill you."

She asked doubtfully, "Really?"

"If I lied to you, may I never be able to marry the woman I love in my entire life."

Wow, that's a really strong oath!

"But..." she hesitated, frowning, "What if you like men?"

Xue An paused, then raised her hand and slapped her on the head. "What are you thinking about all day? I swear on my integrity, I like women."

Feng Guang's brows relaxed. "Alright then, you promise you won't kill me after I see it."

"Hmm." He nodded impatiently.

What a silly girl. He said he wouldn't kill her, but he never said he wouldn't make her blind or fall into a coma forever.

As the mask was slowly peeled away, a pale face, deprived of sunlight for a long time, was exposed to the air. The face was sculpted with distinct features, its complexion sickly pale, its lips thin and pale, and its peach blossom eyes misty and alluring, capable of drawing one in at a glance. Everything about it was perfect, except for the right cheek, where the burn mark was like a speck of ink on a blank sheet of paper; the first thing everyone would notice was that speck of ink.

I was stunned by the scenery.

One, two... Xue An silently counted in her mind. When she counted to three, she was sure she would let out a piercing yet delightful scream. However, before the scream could come, a cold hand covered her right cheek.

The snow's darkness caught her clear, watery eyes and made her pause in surprise.

Fengguang suddenly withdrew her hand, looked around, and unexpectedly ran into a pastry shop not far away. Xue'an watched her back with confusion. Soon, she ran back under the eaves in the heavy rain. All the actions took only a minute or two.

Her hair was wet and clung to her face, her clothes were wrinkled from the rain, and her white embroidered shoes were dirty from stepping in puddles. She stretched out her hand, gave a shy smile, and said in a small voice, "When I was little, whenever I got hurt because I was playing, my mother would give me a piece of osmanthus cake. Eating something sweet would make even the worst mood better. Here, take these osmanthus cakes."

A silence spread, and her raised hand gradually grew tired. He didn't move either. After a few seconds, he suddenly chuckled and finally reached out, knocking the thing out of her hand.

The osmanthus cake spilled out of the paper bag and onto the ground, quickly becoming soaked and crumbling from the rain...

Feeling lost and unsure of what to do, she took a step away from him.

Rediscovering the feeling of being feared, he suddenly felt relieved. His eyes were cold, but he could speak softly and slowly: "These are just things for children to eat."
