"Since you think I'm pretty, then don't like Feng Miyin anymore, like me instead, okay?"
Si Jia: "..."
Her words were so direct that he suddenly didn't know how to respond.
Not receiving a reply from him, she fell silent. After a while, he heard her soft, long breaths; she had fallen asleep.
He had to admit that he felt a little strange at that moment.
The next day, during the day, Sijia took Fengguang out of the inn, saying they wanted to see the scenery of the town. In reality, they were looking for a way out. But to Fengguang's disappointment, just as Sijia had said, the road out of the town was gone. It wasn't simply destroyed, but rather as if it had never existed at all.
Feng Guang has always been timid, and now she absolutely refuses to let Si Jia stay too far away from her. Si Jia, however, doesn't give her the cold shoulder and kick her out of his room, letting her go. Just as night falls, the opera troupe's performance begins on time.
Unlike the quietness of the daytime, the inn was much more lively at night. Even the old man who drove the carriage came to the inn to listen to the opera. Master Chen arranged the front seats for Fengguang and Sijia, and sitting next to them were You'er and his mother.
Feng Guang didn't really understand the opera parts, but when it was Master Chen's turn to perform magic tricks, she was full of energy. Si Jia looked at You'er, who also had wide eyes, and then at Feng Guang, and thought she was more childish than a child.
"Next, I'm going to perform a magic trick. Please look at this wooden box." Master Chen pointed to an open wooden box behind him and said, "There's nothing inside. Now, I'd like to invite a friend to stand inside. In a moment, I'll use my magic to make him disappear from the box. I wonder if anyone would like to come up and help me with this magic trick?"
Immediately, many interested people raised their hands. Master Chen's gaze fell on You'er, who was closest to her. She smiled kindly and said, "Little friend, would you please come up and perform with me?"
"Okay!" You'er broke free from his mother's grasp and excitedly ran onto the stage. He then voluntarily stepped into the box and waved to his mother before the box was closed.
Seeing the worried look on You'er's mother's face, Feng Guang kindly comforted her, "I guess there's a mechanism under that box, so people can fall from the box under the stage. Madam, you don't need to worry."
"Hearing what you said, young lady, has put my mind at ease quite a bit." You'er's mother breathed a sigh of relief.
On stage, Master Chen said, "Everyone, watch closely, I'm about to open this box."
As soon as the box door opened, You'er was indeed gone. Everyone gasped and applauded. Feng Guang also clapped along, as she was always a good audience member.
As the bright moon hung high in the sky, the play ended. When Fengguang and Sijia walked back to their room, they ran into You'er's mother, who was talking to Master Chen, in the corridor.
All that could be heard was Master Chen saying helplessly, "Madam, my men really did take the child to the back room. Later, your child said he wanted to go out and find you, so my men didn't interfere. Now that the child is missing, it's no use you looking for me. I saw that the child was very lively and active. Did he go out to play?"
"No, how could this be..."
Feng Guang pulled Si Jia by the sleeve and walked over, asking with concern, "Madam, is You'er missing?"
“Yes, I haven’t seen him for almost half an hour.” You’er’s mother said with concern. “You’er is very naughty, but he wouldn’t leave for so long without saying a word.”
