Chapter 814 Conquering the Fallen Crown Prince

Back at the Xia residence, Xia Chao smiled and presented a wedding invitation, saying to Feng Guang, "Young Master Shu Feng is getting married. Feng Guang, would you like to come and attend the wedding banquet?"

"Heh." Wang Ci sat to one side and sneered.

Feng Guang murmured, "He's even sent out wedding invitations..."

Xia Chao said, "Isn't this normal? They're getting married next month, so sending out wedding invitations now isn't wrong."

Feng Guang looked at the red wedding invitation in her father's hand without saying a word.

Wang Ci got up and walked over. "Feng Guang, are you in a bad mood?"

“Mother…” Feng Guang choked back a few sobs, then hugged her mother and cried, “I’ve been dumped…”

"Don't cry, don't cry." Wang Ci patted her back. "I know what you're thinking."

Feng Guang frequents Linglong Manor every few days; who wouldn't see through her intentions?

Feng Guang sobbed, "I thought he liked me too... but he's about to get married."

Xia Chao made a sarcastic remark, "That Shu Feng is so much older than you, it's good that you're not with him."

"Shut up!" Wang Ci glared fiercely at Xia Chao, then spoke softly to his daughter, "There are so many men in this world, and some are so successful. We don't need another Shu Feng. I know success just takes time. To get over this relationship that ended before it even began, how about this: your father is going to Kyoto in a while to handle some business. Why don't you come with your father and go for a walk, just to clear your head, okay?"

Feng Guang, thinking that Shu Feng's wedding day was just around the corner, didn't want to see such a joyous scene, so she nodded tearfully, "Okay..."

This time, Lianzi didn't ask to go with Fengguang. Her eyes were dim, and it was unclear what she was thinking.

In the days that followed, Feng Guang stayed in his room and didn't go out. He looked sickly. Half a month later, Xia Chao was also going to officially set off for Kyoto.

Sitting in the carriage, she ignored whatever Xia Chao said to her. After Xia Chao sighed, he stopped talking and the atmosphere remained somewhat somber throughout the journey.

Shortly after leaving the city, the carriage jolted and came to a stop. The driver outside said, "Sir, the wheels are stuck in a puddle."

It turned out that there had been a heavy rain yesterday, and the roads outside the city were still full of potholes.

Left with no other choice, Feng Guang and Xia Chao got off the carriage, only to unexpectedly run into Shu Qiu and his group returning from outside the city.

"Master Xia, Miss Xia," Shu Qiu greeted them with a cupped-hand salute, followed by two constables.

Xia Chao returned the greeting, saying, "Lord Shu."

Since Shuqiu told Fengguang about Wuqi's mother's incident nine years ago, he was too embarrassed to stay in Tong County and was taken away by distant relatives in another province. Fengguang had never seen Shuqiu since then, even though they lived in the same county. So this was the first time Fengguang had seen Shuqiu in nine years.

Shu Qiu glanced at the scenery and then asked Xia Chao, "I just returned from inspecting the water conservancy project. What's wrong, Master Xia?"

"The carriage is stuck in the mud, and I'm trying to figure out how to get it out."

"I see." Shu Qiu said to the two constables behind him, "You two go and help out too."

"Yes, sir."

"Thank you, sir." Xia Chao cupped his hands in thanks.

Shuqiu laughed and said, "Helping others is a pleasure, it's what I should do."

Feng Guang thought to himself, "You're the one who did the hard work, aren't you?"
