"Since Feng Guang doesn't like it, I won't say it anymore." Han Chen looked down at her, the sunlight outside the window casting a golden halo around him. His expression was calm and peaceful, and the corners of his mouth curved into a smile.
Feng Guang unexpectedly detected a hint of doting in his words. She heard her own heart pounding and couldn't help but take a step back. She said nervously, "What do you mean by saying it's for my sake so I won't say such things? Saying such things is wrong in the first place. It's easy to make people who care about you worry. So this isn't for me, it's for the people around you."
"So, is Feng Guang also someone who's worried about me?"
She paused, then flatly denied it, "I wasn't worried about you at all!"
His eyes lifted slightly, and although he was smiling, one could see the loneliness in his expression. "I thought... Fengguang and I were friends, so... that's why Fengguang was worried about me."
"I...I..." She looked at him speechlessly, a strange sense of guilt washing over her. It was because of her that this sick but gentle man had been hurt. She gritted her teeth, grabbed his hand, and said earnestly, "Of course we're friends!"
"Is that so?" He raised his eyes slightly, a hint of doubt showing in his calm gaze.
"Of course. There are so many people in the world, but you happened to meet me that day. That's fate. If that doesn't make us friends, then what does?"
The sunlight finally returned to his eyes. "I'm so happy to hear Feng Guang say that."
Feng Guang gave a dry laugh, speechless for a long while. Then, realizing something was wrong, she awkwardly let go of his hand and tried to ask casually, "Where are your parents?"
“They are very busy and have a lot to do.” Han Chen’s eyelids drooped slightly. “My father is a biotechnology researcher and my mother manages a company overseas. From childhood to adulthood, the only time I’ve seen them together is when I’m sick.”
Upon hearing this, Feng Guang suddenly felt a pang of sadness. Although her parents' relationship wasn't great, they always made a tacit understanding to stay by her side during holidays and her birthday. She was at a loss because she didn't know how to comfort him. Family issues are something that outsiders can't truly empathize with, and it seemed like no matter how much she said, it would be empty words.
"Um..." Feng Guang said hesitantly, "If you feel bored, I'll come to see you whenever I have time."
He smiled, like a gentle breeze on the face, under the bright moon in the sky. "Thank you, Fengguang. You don't need to feel sad for me. I've gotten used to living alone in the hospital. Although my body is in the ward, my heart can go to many places through books, so I never feel lonely."
His understated manner of speaking made it seem as if one could glimpse the vast and boundless world he possessed.
But Feng Guang felt even more upset. Suddenly, she remembered something and said excitedly, "You like reading. I have a huge library at home, which was a birthday gift from my mother. When you get better, I'll invite you to my house. Among so many books, there's bound to be one you like!"
"I'm looking forward to it," he said softly, even though he knew very well that he might never be able to leave the hospital again.
