In her sleep, Feng Guang felt someone lying next to her. She was so sleepy that she couldn't open her eyes. Instinctively, she moved closer to the source of warmth. It felt as if she was being held in someone's arms. But in the middle of the night, she lost the warm embrace and, because it wasn't her own bed, she woke up.
The bed beside her was still warm, but the person next to her was nowhere to be seen. She got up in a daze, dressed, got out of bed, took a lamp, and went out. She didn't want to wander outside in the middle of the night, but what was going to happen tonight forced her to go out.
Following the map in my mind, the scenery passed through the garden, then through a long corridor, and arrived at an abandoned courtyard. The door was open, and inside, a confrontation between two women was taking place.
The man lying on the bed was covered in filth. His beard was long and his hair was messy, showing that he hadn't groomed himself in a long time. He couldn't move or speak. Apart from his wide-open eyes when he saw the person who came, there was no other sign that he was alive.
Consort Min never expected that after twenty-five years, when she saw Prince Xiao Qi Yun again, he would be in such a state. The man who was once so spirited and handsome, a charming young man whose face alone could attract the hearts of countless young ladies, had now become a beggar-like man. No, he was even more miserable than a beggar.
She covered her mouth, tears welling in her eyes, and hesitated to approach.
"Your Highness, you've come here after all." Princess Xiao suddenly appeared at the door, seemingly sighing and lamenting.
Consort Min turned around, furious. "Qiao Wan, what's going on?"
Qiao Wan was the given name of Princess Xiao.
"Didn't Your Highness see that?" Consort Min dared not, but Princess Xiao walked with a smile to the bedside where the man was lying. She brushed away the hair that was blocking his view from his face and looked at him with the wholehearted love of a wife for her husband. But the man looked at her with pain and regret. She said, "The prince is lying here because he is seriously ill."
"Don't touch him!" Consort Min rushed forward, pushed her aside, and stood in front of Prince Xiao, questioning sharply, "His health has always been very good, how could he suddenly become seriously ill? You're the one who did this, aren't you?"
"Your Highness, look at you! The way you're yelling at me now, where is the elegance of a Noble Consort?" Princess Xiao shook her head, quite pityingly. "The Prince was suddenly paralyzed by a stroke a year ago, why would I lie to you?"
"Do you really think I'll believe everything I say? Qiao Wan, why have you become like this?" Back then, Qiao Wan and Prince Xiao were a loving couple, a match made in heaven. This made Consort Min hate Prince Xiao to the bone.
“Xu Min, I have never changed.” With no more intention to act, Princess Xiao put away her smile and became expressionless. “The prince loves me, so I love him. The prince is good to me, so I am good to him. Since I married him, even if he doesn’t love me or like me, I can endure it and be the most qualified Princess Xiao. But you know, as a woman, there is one thing that I can never tolerate, and that is that he hurt my child.”
Consort Min coldly said, "What do you mean? Back then, he chose to save your child Qi Duan. What are you unhappy about? Is it because the prince has another illegitimate son named Qi Mu who defeated your biological son, making you unhappy?"
"Oh dear, as clever as Consort Min is, how could you not have guessed it?" She feigned surprise, then suddenly smiled, "Qi Duan is your child, but Qi Mu is my biological son."
Xu Min's mind went blank.
