On a summer day, cicadas chirp incessantly.
The scenery is drifting through a royal palace, as for why the word "drifting" is used...
After being thrown into this world by the system, she opened her eyes to find herself floating. Surrounded by palace walls and busy palace maids and eunuchs, she was certain she had arrived in a royal palace. Even as she floated past people, they couldn't detect her. Then she was also certain that not only had the system thrown her directly into this world, but it seemed that it hadn't thrown her physical body over...
Feng Guang wanted to roar to the sky, but she actually became a female ghost. How could this be so fantastical!
No, this world is inherently a fantasy world.
She was afraid of ghosts, and now that she herself had become a ghost, she suddenly felt that being a ghost was a rather pitiful thing, drifting around without a fixed abode, without even anyone to talk to.
"System, what exactly is my situation right now?"
"System vulnerability, currently being fixed."
"so……"
"After the repairs are complete, I will deal with the host's current special situation. Please wait patiently."
"How long do you mean by waiting?"
No one answered her.
Feng Guang sat on the wall, recalling her conversation with the system a few days ago, and sighed deeply. This was the most secluded courtyard in the palace, with few people around. She had been sitting here for several hours, her purpose being to observe a child inside out of boredom.
The boy was about ten years old and dressed in rags. In a place as luxurious as the palace, there was such a desolate courtyard and a child dressed like a beggar. She couldn't help but be curious. He was digging tree roots in the overgrown ground. That would be his dinner, because she had seen him gnawing on tree bark at noon.
Feng Guang felt a pang of sadness. It seemed that there was only the little boy here. The boy, who was originally good-looking, was emaciated and pale due to malnutrition. She felt that the more she looked, the more unbearable her sympathy would become. Just as she was about to float away, a palace maid came in carrying a food box.
So someone brought food? Feng Guang stopped his departure.
The palace maid placed the food box on the ground. "I'm already so busy every day, and to have to send you, a little bastard, food is still a real misfortune."
This title made Feng Guang frown.
"Come and eat, so I can take the box back after I finish eating."
The boy stood up, his hands and face covered in mud. His eyes were lifeless as he stared at the palace maid in front of him, unmoved.
"What? You're not going to eat? Fine." The palace maid picked up the food box, opened it, and dumped the food inside onto the ground. She said viciously, "You really think you're a prince, that everyone has to serve you? Let me tell you, His Majesty has so many sons, forgetting one or two is no big deal, especially since you have a mother who's cheating on you!"
He remained expressionless.
"Hmph, and you're mute too. In this palace, even I, A-Wan, a palace maid, have a higher status than you. You little bastard, you won't necessarily starve to death." She took the food box and left arrogantly.
After a while, the boy calmly turned around and continued to squat down to dig up the tree roots.
The food on the ground consisted of only a few vegetable leaves, and the rice was mixed with a lot of sand and stones. If you ate it, you would probably break your teeth!
Feng Guang stood up, glanced at the children in the courtyard, then at the palace maid who hadn't gone far, let out a cold laugh, and drifted over to follow behind her.
Awan suddenly felt a chill down her spine, but when she turned around, there was nothing there. She realized she had been overthinking things.
