Chapter 552 Conquering the Assassin Who Doesn't Seem Like an Assassin

“Then your mother will worry.” Feng Guang said this, and patted his head.

You'er smiled slyly, "Mother is taking a nap right now, she won't know I sneaked out, sister, don't worry, I'll be back soon."

"So you did manage to find the perfect opportunity to come out and have some fun."

“Of course.” You’er thought she was very clever and was proud of herself for a while. Then she looked at the calm river and said, “Sister, don’t go swimming in the river.”

Feng Guang was naturally puzzled, "Why?"

"Legend...legend has it that there's a man-eating monster in the river that drags people into the water and eats them. It's terrifying! Sister, you shouldn't go swimming in the river." You'er tugged at Fengguang's hand, clearly terrified and worried.

After a long silence, Si Jia asked, "Where did the legend come from?"

You'er didn't answer, but moved closer to Feng Guang. Feng Guang chuckled and said to Si Jia, "When you talk to a child, don't look so serious, it will scare him."

Si Jia paused, he didn't like children, wouldn't approach them, and naturally wouldn't interact with them.

Feng Guang patted You'er's head. "Don't be afraid. He's my friend, not a bad person. You'er, can you tell me why there are rumors that there's a man-eating monster in the river?"

"Everyone...that's what everyone says." You'er thought for a while and said, "Anyway, sister, you just shouldn't go play in the river. The monster is very dangerous, and you can't beat it."

An aged voice called out, "You'er."

You'er stiffened. "Sister, just remember what I said. Don't go to the river."

After hastily uttering those words, he ran away as fast as he could.

On the other side, an old man slowly walked over. "Two guests, did You'er offend you because he was being ignorant?"

“No, no, he’s very well-behaved.” Feng Guang stood up and recognized him as the coachman who had brought her and Si Jia to town last night.

The old man said with pity, "Alas... You'er lost his father at a young age and was raised by his mother alone. It's inevitable that he's a bit wild. Sometimes he'll say nonsensical things to attract attention. If he does anything wrong, I hope you two will be more lenient with him."

"Grandpa, don't worry, You'er is very sensible." Feng Guang smiled kindly, indicating that the old man didn't need to worry.

The old man nodded. "That's good. By the way, are you two settling in well here? Our town is nothing like the capital; it's a poor and remote place, so please don't neglect yourselves."

Si Jia said, "Thank you for your trouble, old man. We are very happy living here."

"Alright, that puts my mind at ease." The old man said with relief, "I still need to prepare the goods to take to the capital for sale tomorrow, so I'll be going now."

Feng Guang waved goodbye, "Take care, grandpa."

After the old man walked away with faltering steps, she tightly grasped Sijia's hand and said earnestly, "I feel this town is too eerie. Sijia, don't stray too far from me. I'm afraid I won't be able to protect you."

Si Jia was about to agree with the first part of what she said, but when he heard the second part, he couldn't say anything. It seemed that she had said the opposite of what she meant.

She protected him?

Much later, Si Jia realized that she hadn't just made things up.

Feng Guang's intuition was always quite good, and she said, "Why don't we leave here?"

"We cannot leave."

"Why?"

Si Jia's gaze was deep and unfathomable. "Because the road out of town is gone."
