We admired the scenery along the way and finally arrived at a tree where a man was sitting, carving the wood in his hands. He wasn't wearing a straw hat, so we could see his face, which had uneven skin tone, and his expression was serious and quiet.
She sat down next to him, resting her chin on her hand on the table, and quietly watched what he was holding. Later, her gaze couldn't help but move upwards, fixing on his profile.
Perhaps her gaze was too direct, impossible for even the most focused person to ignore. He looked up and asked, "What are you looking at?"
"You're so pretty." She tilted her head with a grin, looking quite pleased with herself.
The word "good-looking" was just irony to him. He lowered his gaze and continued with his work, showing no emotion whatsoever.
Sensing the awkward atmosphere, Feng Guang paused. "What's wrong?"
He did not answer.
Her tone became even more cautious, "Are you angry?"
"No." Two simple words, spoken in a tone as still as a deep well.
Feng Guang began to feel uneasy. She moved closer to him, poked his shoulder with her finger, and said softly, "I really think you are beautiful inside and out."
He still didn't react.
“I’m telling the truth… Everyone says that serious men are handsome.” She blinked earnestly and said, “Don’t worry, I never lie about things like this.”
Finally, he looked up and said, "You're very noisy."
"Then I won't say anything." She covered her mouth with both hands, looked at his face in a pleading manner, and then... stared blankly at his face again.
The fact that someone would stare at his face in a daze was probably the strangest thing the man had ever seen. He calmly looked away and said, "You need to have your eyes checked."
“My eyes are beautiful too.” She took her hand away from her mouth and pointed to her eyes, saying, “To be honest, I think my eyes are the most beautiful part of my face.”
He remained silent.
But no matter how he remained silent, it was useless against a chatterbox. For example, at this moment, she didn't even realize that he didn't want to talk to her, yet she was still talking enthusiastically, "Actually, I think I'm pretty, but I'm just too unremarkable. Every time people see me, they just say I'm beautiful, but in a woman's eyes, that's the look of a vixen. So I've never been very satisfied. I'm very good at judging people, and when I say you're pretty, it's true. I'm not talking about how pretty your face is, but about your overall aura... and the feeling you give off. If you look at people with the eyes of someone looking at a wood carving..."
Her words came to an abrupt halt as she recalled the scene of him looking at her with such earnest eyes, and she couldn't help but blush and feel her heart pound.
The man who had been speaking at length suddenly stopped. He turned his gaze back to her and saw that the girl's face was flushed. Her gaze was fixed on him without changing. He watched as she slowly raised her hand to cover her burning face and seemed to let out a painful whimper.
Finally, she covered his eyes with one hand.
She said angrily, "Stop staring at me like that!"
he:"……"
"I can't help but feel shy!" Feng Guang exclaimed helplessly, then jumped up and ran back to her room.
The man sitting in the courtyard exuded a strange bewilderment for the first time, amidst the deathly stillness.
