That night, the two talked for a long time until midnight. Her voice grew softer and softer, and Duan Mu heard her long, light breathing coming from the phone. She had fallen asleep.
Duan Mu did not hang up the phone, but picked up another phone and dialed a number.
Even though it was past midnight, Xia Chao, a workaholic, was still looking at the documents he hadn't finished. Suddenly, his phone rang. Because he was waiting for his secretary's call, he answered without even looking at the caller ID. "The thing I asked you to handle..."
“Mr. Xia.” The three simple and steady words interrupted Xia Chao.
Xia Chao was taken aback, realizing the voice was off. He glanced at the caller ID; it was an unknown number. He frowned and put the phone to his ear again. "Who are you?"
"Mr. Xia, hello, I am Duan Mu."
Xia Chao paused for a second upon hearing the name, then let out a cold laugh, "Duan Mu? That Duan Mu?"
"I am Duan Mu." Duan Mu's tone was extremely polite. "Although I have not been dating Feng Guang for long, it is indeed somewhat inappropriate for me to visit you by phone now, given that our relationship is aimed at marriage. Please forgive me, Mr. Xia."
"With marriage in mind?" Xia Chao put down his pen and said disdainfully, "Fengguang is just playing around with you. I advise you not to take it too seriously."
"Whether Feng Guang is joking or not, I think we all know the answer." Duan Mu was neither angry nor annoyed, but instead chuckled again. "I called to ask Mr. Xia for a favor."
Xia Chao already had the answer in his heart. This man probably wanted to use the Xia family's connections to gain greater benefits in the entertainment industry. So, instead of sneering, he asked in the same tone I expected, "What do you want?"
"I don't want anything, it's just that Fengguang suddenly fell asleep, and I would like to trouble Mr. Xia to help her cover herself with the blanket."
Xia Chao paused, then his face darkened. "This is my daughter. Do you need to bother with her?"
Xia Chao was furious as he hung up the phone. How did he know Feng Guang had just fallen asleep? It must be because they had been talking before, and for quite a while.
Although he could use access control to prevent Feng Guang from lingering outside for too long because of Duan Mu, he couldn't cut off their phone calls.
However, despite his anger, Xia Chao still got up and left the study to cover his daughter with a blanket.
Feng Guang had no idea what had happened. She only noticed her father's obviously bad expression when she got up the next morning and went downstairs for breakfast. She wisely didn't ask any more questions, but Xia Chao wouldn't let her off so easily.
Xia Chao said coolly, "It seems you're having a good relationship with that Duan Mu guy now?"
"Actually, it's not that good..." Feng Guang's eyes darted around. She took a sip of milk to calm herself down.
"If you two don't have a good relationship, why would he call me late at night and ask me to cover you with a blanket?"
She was stunned. "Huh?"
"What do you mean 'huh'? You're still putting on an act for me. Do you really think I'm a three-year-old who's so easy to fool?" Xia Chao was angry at first, but then he said earnestly, "Didn't I tell you? Just play around, don't take it seriously. He's not good enough for you."
"Whether he's good enough or not isn't up to you to decide. I just think he's great." She took another bite of bread, said she was full, and then ran off.
The Xia Dynasty couldn't stop it even if it wanted to.
