Chapter 1 The Confusion of an Insignificant Person (Part 1)

The shock and palpitations from falling into the valley left Shi Lan still dizzy. The lightness of her body gave her the illusion of being in a deep, unknown place. A vast mist filled the surroundings, and a faint voice drifted out from the depths.

Do you want to live?

Shi Lan frowned her beautiful eyebrows, paused for a moment, and did not answer. However, she was suspicious of this inexplicable question. She was a top student who was about to enter a prestigious university and was doing well. Why would she need someone to ask her if she wanted to live?

Shi Lan's silence provoked the voice's anger, and when it spoke again, it was with displeasure, "You don't have much time. I need a clear answer in a minute."

Shi Lan pursed her lips and remained silent, only staring intently at the source of the sound with her large eyes, but unfortunately the fog was too thick, and all she could see was a vast expanse of white.

"Oh, right, I forgot to remind you, you're already dead, just before you came here. Do you want me to let you go back and see what you looked like before you died?" The voice knew exactly how to hit a nerve, speaking maliciously as she looked around.

Shi Lan opened her mouth in surprise, recalling the scene from before, and then she suddenly realized.

...So she was already dead. Falling from such a high mountain, she must have been turned into a meat pie.

"You have ten seconds left..."

"I want to live, please help me." Before the voice could finish speaking, Shi Lan spoke first, her face solemn.

Who would want to die if they could live? Although she knew there was no such thing as a free lunch and that agreeing to something would come at a price, she didn't care. After all, only by living could one truly understand the price paid, right?

The voice paused, and because of her understanding, her attitude softened considerably. "It's simple to survive: go to the small world below, fulfill the wish of the person who possesses the stone, and bring the stone back."

"That's all?" Shi Lan was somewhat surprised; the conditions were much simpler than she had expected.

The voice seemed to chuckle softly as it replied, "Yes. Are you ready?"

Shi Lan was bewildered, not quite understanding what she needed to prepare. Just as she was about to ask a question, she felt herself being lifted into the air. After a moment of dizziness, she opened her eyes again and found herself in complete darkness. Beneath her was a soft bed, and she was covered with a soft, light blanket.

Shi Lan looked around. It was dark, but she could see faint light coming through the curtains. The room was small, about ten square meters. The bed she was lying on took up half the space, and the other half had a table and a bookshelf next to it. There were some things on the shelf and the table, which she guessed were books.

It was very quiet around her. Shi Lan closed her eyes and endured the excruciating pain as she received the original owner's memories.

The original owner of this body was also named Shi Lan. She attended Yucai High School. After her parents divorced, she took her mother's surname and grew up with her mother, Shi Hongmei. From a young age, she knew that her father disliked her because she was a girl, which was why he divorced her mother. She felt sorry for her mother but was also very resentful, feeling that she was no less capable than boys. So she studied hard. With this drive, she performed exceptionally well in the high school entrance examination and was admitted to a key high school with a college entrance rate ranking among the top three in the country.

Yucai High School gathers the top students from across the province. The original owner of this body wasn't particularly gifted, and all she could rely on was hard work. But ever since she arrived here, no matter how hard she studied, her grades always hovered around the bottom of the class. She was already introverted, and the situation with her parents made her sensitive. After several monthly exams, although the teachers didn't say anything, she remained silent.

In such an elite school, teachers naturally focus their attention on high-achieving students. The teacher vaguely noticed the changes in the original owner, but she had too many other things to care about, so she naturally overlooked the original owner.

A teacher's attitude can sometimes be a signal. Gradually, the students in the class started to ignore her presence, except for Lin Qing, who had a good relationship with her.

Lin Qing's situation was very similar to hers. She came from a middle-class family and her academic performance was similar to that of the original owner. The only difference was that her parents treated her very well, which made the original owner very envious. But that was all she was envious of. In her heart, nothing was more important than her mother. She studied hard from a young age so that she could get into a better university and make her mother stand tall and proud in front of her father.

In the second semester of her junior year, the workload increased significantly. The original owner studied until very late every day. At first, Lin Qing studied with her, but at some point, she began to change. She no longer focused her energy on studying, but instead turned to singing, dancing, and socializing. The original owner tried to persuade her, but Lin Qing not only ignored her but also mocked her for being ignorant. Not long after, the original owner heard that she was dating Han Guangye, who was known as the school heartthrob in the same grade.

To be voted the school's most handsome man, Han Guangye's looks were naturally exceptional. What was even more remarkable was his outstanding academic performance and his extremely wealthy family background. It was rumored that an elder in his family held an important position in the government. What girl wouldn't be attracted to such a talented, handsome, well-connected, and academically excellent young man? For example, Liu Ru, the daughter of the richest man in the provincial capital from the next class, and the original owner of this body, who was practically invisible.

However, the original owner was very rational. She was very clear about her future goals. When she heard the news, she only felt a pang of sadness for a while before letting it go. After all, students should prioritize their studies.

In contrast, Liu Ru came over immediately after learning about this, cornered Lin Qing against the wall, and threatened her not to bother Han Guangye, or she would be in trouble.

Lin Qing was quite shrewd; instead of confronting Liu Ru directly, she told Han Guangye about it. Han Guangye was furious and found Liu Ru, berating her in front of her classmates.

Liu Ru was an only child, pampered by her father and mother, and she couldn't stand this. That day, she went home and asked someone to get her some drugs that would make her lose consciousness. The next day, when no one was in the classroom during lunch break, she put the drugs into the yogurt that Lin Qing had brought. Originally, she wanted to make Lin Qing look bad and let Han Guangye see that the girl he liked was such a shameless girl. But she didn't expect that Han Guangye would drink the yogurt at dinner.
