Chapter 151 The Love and Hate of a Courtesan (Part Twelve)

He sat quietly for a while, then turned around to look at the man and said, "Do you think that if she sends people back to her hometown to look for someone but to no avail, she might suspect that I am deceiving her?"

The big man shook his head and said, "What's the big deal? It's so far from where you are, and there are bandits and highwaymen running rampant on the road. It's not uncommon for people to die on the road."

Bu Mingbo was somewhat exasperated. "You barbarian, what do you know? That Lan Niang may look gentle and dull, but she's actually incredibly intelligent. If she noticed anything unusual about Aunt Sun's death, she would definitely have noticed something amiss. It's all your fault for being so reckless. You couldn't wait for her to leave the house and took her life. Now look what's happened; the body is still buried behind the house. If Lan Niang really doesn't give up, not only will Old Man Liu's matter be troublesome, but you and I will also be in legal trouble."

Upon hearing this, the burly man stood up abruptly and strode straight towards the door.

Bu Mingbo was stunned, then raised his voice and asked, "Where are you going?"

The burly man said, "I'm going to kill that little wench."

Bu Mingbo stomped his foot in anger and quickly grabbed him, saying, "Use your brain! If you really do that, Old Man Liu will probably be the first to take your head."

The burly man shook his head and said, "No, my lord has always relied on me. He wouldn't kill me for a little wench."

Bu Mingbo cursed him under his breath, thinking that if it weren't for his brute strength, no one would have given him an important position.

But knowing that this man needed to be persuaded gently, Bu Mingbo's mind raced. He tugged at the man's sleeve, pulling him close, and said, "Don't act rashly. I just thought about it carefully, and my previous response was quite appropriate. Lan Niang shouldn't have noticed anything amiss. How about this," he gently swayed the man's sleeve, "I'll visit the Governor's Mansion in a couple of days and sound her out. If she hasn't noticed anything, we won't need to create trouble for ourselves. What do you think?"

Bu Mingbo's voice was clear and bright, but when he pinched his throat and lowered his voice, it had a strangely feminine quality.

Shi Lan shivered involuntarily as the scene of their previous meeting flashed through her mind.

When Bu Mingbo first entered the room, he was indeed extremely awkward for a moment. Even after lighting the candlesticks, he subconsciously glanced at the edge of the bed. Shi Lan, out of politeness, only sat briefly in the hall. Even when she saw him glancing at the inner room, she didn't seem to care. Now it seemed that the big man was probably hiding behind the curtain, secretly watching her.

“Alright then,” the burly man said in a deep voice, “Go tomorrow. If you find anything amiss, I will deal with her immediately. Your important plan is of utmost importance and cannot be delayed for even a moment.”

Bu Mingbo smiled and repeatedly agreed.

The two of them went to the tatami mat together.

Shi Lan frowned, her two rows of silver teeth almost grinding to powder. A surge of emotions welled up in her chest, like an undercurrent of water, seemingly silent yet containing boundless power. If her soul hadn't recovered most of its strength and her ability to control her body hadn't increased, she probably would have already rushed in and fought these two to the death.

After struggling to suppress his emotions for a long time, Shi Lan let out a long breath and slowly walked out of the courtyard.

The alley was quite empty. The soft calfskin boots made a swishing sound as they stepped on the ground. Shi Lan stretched out her fingers and lightly touched the cold stone wall. With each step, her fingers slowly slid across the stone wall. The rough and cold stinging sensation made her muscles tighten, soothing her tense nerves and relieving the burning pain in her chest.

Bu Mingbo's words echoed in her ears like a curse. If she hadn't seen and heard them with her own eyes, Shi Lan would never have believed that Bu Mingbo, whom the original owner believed was willing to elope with her to save her, was actually such a hypocritical person.

Those gentle, kind, and considerate actions in my memory were mostly just my own imagination.

The so-called "forced by circumstances" and "had no choice" were just excuses, mere pretexts for comforting himself in the face of the original owner's resentful gaze.

Upon closer reflection, all of these were foreshadowed. When the original owner came to find Bu Mingbo, he suddenly stiffened, and when the original owner received the threatening message from Liu Weng and asked Liu Weng to let Bu Mingbo go, the messenger showed a strange smile. At the time, the original owner thought it was because the messenger looked down on her, but little did she know that the person was mocking her for being foolish, being sold out and still helping him count the money, and even after losing her life, she still remembered his kindness.

Shi Lan clenched her fists in anger, her fury at being tricked surging like a raging fire reaching the sky.

If she didn't use some tricks to make him suffer, Bu Mingbo would think he was the only smart person in the world.

Shi Lan walked heavily back into the manor. As soon as she entered, she heard a familiar voice, "Where have you been?"

Shi Lan was unbuckling her belt when she heard the deep male voice. Her hand stopped, and her body stiffened so much that she couldn't move.

In the darkness, the tall figure rose, lit a candle, walked up to her, looked down at her, his gaze lingering on her boots for a moment before he looked up and said, "You've left the manor?"

Shi Lan responded with a hoarse "hmm," feeling immense pressure under his piercing gaze.

Yue Zhan casually pulled off the leather belt that bound her slender waist and said in a calm voice, "It's already curfew. Why not wait until dawn to take care of things?"

Shi Lan felt a tightness in her chest. Tonight, all she wanted to do was lie quietly and sort out her thoughts, but Yue Zhan kept staring at her. Helpless, she could only mutter, "I just suddenly missed my stepmother. I thought I had enough time, so I went to see her, but I didn't expect to be delayed until curfew."

Yue Zhan frowned and grabbed her, "What's so great about your fake mother? Do you know how serious the consequences are if you're caught during curfew?"

Shi Lan took off her scarlet fairy skin. Today's trip had been extremely unsuccessful, and coupled with the fact that she had learned that Bu Mingbo had deceived the original owner of the body, Shi Lan's mood was at its lowest point. At this moment, facing Yue Zhan's aggressive questioning, she seemed a little impatient: "I know, I'm back safe and sound!"
