Shi Lan was deeply moved. After regaining her composure, she asked with a smile, "What is the meaning of this, Senior Scholar?"
Bu Mingbo pushed the box toward Shi Lan and said, "This was left by Aunt Sun before she left. I originally wanted to keep it as a memento, but after seeing you last night, I remembered this and thought that it was probably specially left for you by Aunt Sun."
Shi Lan glanced at the box and a smile appeared on her lips.
Grandma Sun has already passed away, and all the things she had saved up in her life have ended up in his hands. It's a wonder he can still say he misses her. Isn't he afraid that if he keeps thinking about her, Grandma Sun will come looking for him?
“This is the lotion I use for bathing. It makes my skin smooth as satin. I brought some with me before I came here, but I ran out a few days ago. I happened to be passing by yesterday, so I thought I would ask my stepmother for some. Who knew that my stepmother would be so heartless and leave without even saying goodbye? It made me, her daughter, quite sad,” Shi Lan said, pretending to sigh. “I guess all those nice things my stepmother said were just to coax me. She said she treated me like her own daughter, but in reality, she just treated me like an object and gave me away without a second thought.”
Shi Lan took out a handkerchief and sadly wiped away her tears.
Bu Mingbo sat in the chair as if he were being pricked by needles, shifting and shuffling awkwardly.
Shi Lan looked up at him in surprise, "Sergeant, are you feeling unwell?"
Bu Mingbo stood with his legs tightly together, his hands clenched into fists, and his face was pale and frightening.
"No, it's nothing."
Shi Lan glanced at the door. "There's a physician in this mansion. How about I have Zhu'er take you there to get a checkup?"
Bu Mingbo pursed his lips, beads of sweat slowly sliding down his cheeks. "No need to trouble yourself, it's an old ailment. I'll just take some medicine when I get back."
Shi Lan frowned. He had been staying with Aunt Sun for some time and had never heard of Bu Mingbo having such an illness. Knowing yourself and your enemy is the key to victory in every battle. It would be good to have someone diagnose and treat him. Shi Lan was also very curious as to why he was the only one who had not caused any abnormality in the original owner.
"One should not shy away from seeking medical help when ill. If you are truly ill, it is best to seek treatment as soon as possible. The manor has all the necessary medicinal herbs, and it is convenient to prepare the medicine. Sir, you should go with Zhu'er."
At the door, Zhu'er whispered a few words to Dou'er, then winked at her.
Shi Lan's eyes sparkled, and she quickly realized that the two little girls had secretly sabotaged him because they knew he didn't like her, so she couldn't let him leave.
"Zhu'er," Shi Lan waved to Zhu'er and said, "Quickly take Bu Shangshi to Doctor Bo's place and trouble him to do his work."
Zhu'er was taken aback. Doctor Bo was always very arrogant and not someone she could trouble.
But then Shi Lan winked at her, blinked, and suddenly smiled and said crisply, "Yes, my wife."
Bu Mingbo wanted to say no, but Zhu'er had already come up to him and asked him to stop.
Bu Mingbo had to tighten his legs and barely get up. His stomach churned, and a stream of air slid down his intestines. He didn't know if it was because he had played too hard last night, but he couldn't clench his genitals. A long, winding sound, lingering around the rafters, came from somewhere behind him, and a strange smell spread rapidly around him.
Pearl frowned, covered her mouth and nose, her disgust barely concealed.
Bu Mingbo's face flushed red and then turned pale. At that moment, he wished the ground would crack open so he could jump in and never come out again.
Shi Lan has an extremely sensitive nose, and she hurriedly held up a handkerchief to cover her nose, but she still couldn't hide the nauseating smell.
"Sergeant, what's wrong...?"
Bu Mingbo, hunched over, clutched his stomach with one hand and his back with the other, and said in a disheveled manner, "Lan Niang, I have other matters to attend to, so I'll take my leave first."
Without waiting for her reply, he hurriedly left the room.
Shi Lan fanned herself with disgust, got up and walked out of the house. Dou'er covered her mouth and giggled at the door.
This was the first time Shi Lan had ever seen her smile so happily.
"What, you're so happy to see others in a sorry state?"
Dou'er nodded, laughing so hard she almost fell over.
Zhu'er opened all the windows in the room, came out, glared at her, and said, "My lady, don't be fooled by her. If it weren't for her, that person wouldn't have been in such a sorry state."
Shi Lan looked at Dou'er in surprise. She had thought it was Zhu'er's idea, but she didn't expect that the simple-minded girl could be so funny when she played tricks on people.
Zhu'er playfully patted her, "It's all your fault! Why did you have to feed him croton powder? Now my wife and I have to smell his stench."
Shi Lan then understood why Bu Mingbo had mistaken the excellent Gu Zhu Zi bamboo shoots for inferior ones.
"You two..." Shi Lan smiled and tapped their heads, glancing at Dou'er, "Hurry up and find a way to clean the room, Lady Han will be coming over later."
Dou'er responded sullenly, went to the tea room to get a large palm-leaf fan, and ran back to the center of the hall, fanning herself vigorously.
Shi Lan stood by the door and shook her head, then simply sat down in the shaded area in front of the corridor to enjoy the scenery.
After about the time it takes to drink a cup of tea, Zhu'er came to invite her back, saying that Lady Han had arrived.
Knowing her own identity, Shi Lan dared not keep Lady Han waiting and hurried back.
After taking her pulse as usual, Lady Han pondered and asked, "I wonder if you ever took any potent medicine when you were young?"
Shi Lan frowned, thought for a moment, and then shook her head.
Han, the female historian, frowned and muttered, "How could this be?"
Shi Lan placed the box that was on the table in front of her and said in a low voice, "Please take a look at this, Madam."
The lady-in-waiting opened the box, brought it close to her nose, and sniffed it lightly. She quickly closed the box and asked sternly, "Where did you get this?"
Seeing her solemn face and dignified expression, Shi Lan already knew what was going on.
“This was specially prepared by my stepmother for me to use for bathing and cleansing,” she chuckled softly. “I’ve used this every day since I was ten years old.”
