Seeing her like this, Ms. Wang didn't know what to say.
Pan Jinyue stepped forward and took Shi Lan's arm, saying, "Fourth Sister, it's getting late. Let's go and rest."
Shi Lan pursed her lips and nodded, bowed to the old lady, and followed Pan Jinyue to the Bisha Pavilion. A moment later, a maid named Lüyu came in and said that the old lady had ordered her to come and serve.
Shi Lan glanced at her; she had a decent appearance and a calm demeanor, and seemed capable of handling things, so she guessed that she must have some influence with the old lady.
Pan Jinyue wanted to speak with Shi Lan, so she sent away the maids and servants who were serving her. Seeing that Lvyu was standing in front of her impatiently, she said, "Go outside and serve. We'll call you if we need anything."
Green Jade looked up at Shi Lan. Shi Lan also wanted to know why Green Jade insisted on sleeping with her, so she nodded. However, Green Jade's actions just now were somewhat unexpected to Shi Lan.
Green Jade bowed and withdrew.
Only Pan Jinyue and Shi Lan remained in the room. Pan Jinyue adjusted the candlelight on the table and turned to Shi Lan, saying, "Fourth Sister, you've been cultivating outside with Master all these years. It must have been very hard for you."
Shi Lan twitched her lips and said calmly, "It's alright, simple food and drink, you'll get used to it."
Pan Jinyue turned to look at her, pouting and complaining seemingly unintentionally, "Grandmother is really something, taking so long to bring you back. If it had been sooner, Fourth Sister, you wouldn't have had to suffer so much." She suddenly moved closer to Shi Lan, "You won't resent Grandmother for this, will you?"
Pan Jinyue asked with an innocent look, but her words were full of hidden traps.
The old lady is an elder in the family. Even if she is temporarily neglected, Shi Lan, as a junior, can only accept it. Wouldn't it be unfilial to complain or be dissatisfied?
Shi Lan turned her eyes and stared at her for a while.
She had only just returned and hadn't done anything yet, but Pan Jinyue was already plotting to trick her. Unfortunately, she wasn't a clueless nine-year-old child, nor was she an unsophisticated commoner. She knew the ins and outs of the mansion better than anyone else.
Shi Lan smiled faintly and said, "No."
Pan Jinyue seemed frightened by the indifference in her eyes, shrank her neck, moved closer to the candlelight, swallowed her question about why she had returned, and muttered instead, "I knew that Fourth Sister was kind-hearted and broad-minded, and would not complain about Grandmother and Aunt."
Shi Lan nodded noncommittally, too lazy to deal with this pointless questioning and probing, pulled the covers over her head, turned away, and ignored her.
